what car to buy?
I need to buy a car by the end of July. I am thinking of buying the RX-8, if it is available (I haven't pre-ordered). If not, I am contemplating on a Evo, Z, or A4. What do y'all think I should get?

Those are such varied choices.
The Z is great off the line, but really... doesn't feel as fun as the G35 Coupe.
The Evo is great in all areas but lacks the creature comforts the RX-8, Audi, and G35 will provide.
The A4 is really a luxury cruiser though you can have *some* fun with it... the bloody car is HEAVY and not nimble at all. AWD also makes it a poor weight distribution that's not as tossable. Audis do have, in my opinion, the best interiors in cars today.
The RX-8 is a car that will haul four people with relative comfort. It's cheaper than every car on this list. It's faster than the A4. It will be close to the G35C though the G35C will be faster off the line (and you'll feel it by a good margin). It's got a high-revving engine that needs to be wound out to work well.
But it's the lightest (by far) of all these cars. It will be the most fun to drive (ideally) due to that. However it will lack that low-end grunt a lot of people *require*, as the G35 and Evo possess. It has all the creature comforts as the G35C though, navigation, leather, and a better back seat too. Stereo is apparently supposed to be quite good also. It's got style, class, sport, and a good sticker price. That's why I have chosen it.
However, should the RX-8 wind up SUCKING (though I somehow doubt it), the G35C will be my car of choice.

Re: what car to buy?
well he said:
so i took the rx-8 out of the question(it's my obviusly biased choice )
it's just my opinion but based on some things i've read that the EVO is going to be a maintenance, not nightmare(headache maybe?) but it is going to need alot.
the z is a great car but not very practical when considered next to the other 2.
the Audi is going to be really reliable, have a build, exterior/interior fit and finish quality much better than the other 2. it's value i think will hold up better for future resale/trade in. if he is talking about an awd model the audi system seems to be as about as good as anyone's too.
just my opinion, FWIW.

between the 350Z and G35, go with the G35 but I don't really like either one that much
I don't like the Audi
I like the Evo but all out prefer the Wrx Sti, which is the one I'd get.
Or get a used Z06!! :D

My question is what do you need the car for? A lot of people buy more car then they need, or buy the wrong car for their needs. A lot of people figure that they need a large truck in case they ever have to move grandma back home. Then they spend time and money maintaining a vehicle that is only used for its intended purpose once every three years or so.
My company car is a Miata, I am the only person going to work, I don't have to carry anything other then my lunch so it is the perfect car for me. And man is it fun going to work and even better going home. Only real problem is the dome light can be very bright and I can get lost in the spring.
My wife had a Jeep before I met her and still drives it to work. We use it for most of our hauling needs and for some family outings.
I got a 91 miata to teach my son how to drive and because I wanted him to have something that handles well, can't carry more then one passenger, reducing the amount of peer pressure and does not go too fast. He can upgrade it as he wants later.
All my cars are purchased based on what I want to do with them. When I have to move Grandma back home, I can rent a U-haul for the day if the stuff won't fit in the Jeep.
Look at what you want the car for and buy the one that meets most of those needs.
Don't know how much money you have for maint. but the one thing I found about the audi is that once the warrenty expires the cost of repairs go though the roof. So if you plan on having it for any length of time, or the budget is a bit tight, it might not be the car for you. It was costing me close to $100 per oil change when oil changes at the quick lube place was $25 for most other cars.

RX-8: Unique engine and body Style, with descent performance.
WRX and EVO: WRC Styling with performance to match.
350Z and G35: Good styling, with questionable interior(Z). Heavy muscle car. Basically a 2 seater.
A4 and BMW 330: It's a sedan with questionable rear seats (BMW). Sporty, but not a sports car (M3 exception)
Of course you have to add economics into the equation. Good luck choosing your car.

If I don't go with the RX-8, I was thinking about the Ford Mustang Mach 1 or the 10th Anniv. SVT Cobra. But that is my opinion. I am partial to muscle cars and stuff like that. Only sacrifice for me with the Mustang is creature comforts, but then again I could always install a navi aftermarket. (I take a lot of highway trips on the weekends usually to Atlantic City, or gf in south NJ).
