40k dosnt go a long way these days , espeially with the feds lowering interest rates to save the sub prime mortgage market, inflation is going to be crazy

I don't think I'd spend $40k on a new car, but if I were to I'd go with an almost new vette, but the problem is I like being unique, and there are just too many of them, so the Lotus Elise or Exige might be my choice, but then again, where can I take it in for service. HMMM

I'd love nothing more then an FD RX7 with an LS2 engine. I so badly want an RX7, but I couldn't deal with the reliability, so there's no way in hell I'd buy one.

The answer is simple really for me. NOTHING I'd rather just put $8k into my S2000, in which I bought last year brand new for $32k. Supercharger kit and a hardtop, and BAM, I'm happy as can be. Reliable, fun, fast, and sexy. That's coming up in 2008.

I was just messing with you. I own an Evo and it was tuned by Martin Musial (the owner of AMS) at the shop. I got to check out all their cars and the famous black Evo from FL. was there (had just topped 900whp) getting finished up while I waited for my work to be done They're great guys and will continue to work on my Evo for as long as I have it as well as any new Evo or STI I might get. Hell, maybe they'll even jump in the BMW 135/335 realm should I decide to go that direction with my next car.

I have an 8, and what you heard isn't true. It's a little easier to make more power in the 9 due to a slightly different turbo and hotside as well as MIVEC. For $1000-1500 in mods you can make over 330whp with an Evo 9. I have an Evo 8. That said the confussion may come from the fact that all the fastest Evos are Evo 8's.

Cool - not to much more than my 8. I sit at 3048 on the scales with 200 lbs of weights included in that total.

I got a ride in a stripped down Audi TT with a Stage 3 APR turbo package the other day. He is at 2700 lbs with 330 HP to the wheels on 91 octane. He said it will push another 70 HP on 100 octane race gas and the APR map change. All wheel drive was fun. He purchased the '02 car for $15K and dumped $25K into it - so for $40K he has a screamer

The old TT Quattro has a curb weight of around 3200 lbs. so I find it very hard to believe that guy was able to get it down to 2700. Also, without fairly extensive brake and suspension upgrades a apr stage III Audi TT is a death trap, but I'd imagine some of that 25k invested went towards just that.

^ Yes, extensive brake and suspension mods were on it. It basically was two seats and nothing else. I'll quiz him again about the weight, but it did force the blood out of your brain upon launching, and the oversized brakes brought it back under control.

Was fun indeed

Boxster. Great handling, great brakes.
List is 45-46, but if you took a last year model left on the lot you could probably squeeze one for 40.

+1

A female friend thought Corvettes are cheesy cars. She loves the Mercedes Benz SLK.

I had exactly that decision to make last year. Looked at cars into the 40s.

Nothing grabbed me like the RX-8. That left me $15K in change. Good deal all around.

right out of the box that thing is something to be recognized....and if u add some essential mods it will destroy most of anything on the road

In summary, there is no new car, priced at exactly $40k, worth buying. Either go above that or below. It's a 22k-34k, then a 50k-65k market as far as new cars worth considering.
