I can't think of a car within 20k dollars in price from a C6 which can best-it. 40k? C6, hands-down

OK... but the Vette starts at 45k and the majority of them are closer to 50k. Also, the C6 is a great numbers car, but still leaves something to be desired as a drivers car.

C6 can be had comfortably for low 40s modestly equipped. There are always deals around for the vettes.

Best car for 40K? I asked that question 3 years ago and I bought the 8.

The other cars I looked at wanted to the full 40K, but only the 8 was worth it.

Today, I might stretch the figure and look at Cayman S seriously. But that is not the question...

I got my brand new 2007 vette built for $40k...that was with the Velocity Yellow paint ($750) and Competition Grey rims ($350). I think it's the best bang for the buck performance wise...great straight line...great cornering.

Didn't know people were getting deals on Vettes. It absolutely is a great bang for the buck. I might consider one if I lived in a warmer climate, but the overall driver feedback makes it so I'm not upset that I can't buy one.

+1 on a vette... the 430HP engine they put in the base vette is a helluva deal.

I love my RX8, but in about 6 months I shall be selling it and most likely be hopping into a 2008 Z06.

The only thing I didn't care about the vette was it has Computer Aided Gear Selection...if your in first gear...and below a certain rpm...when you try shifting to 2nd...it shifts into 4th for you (locks out 2nd)...also GM has a really invasive Torque Management system in the car...pretty much when your getting on it...your not getting all the power from the car that it should be producing...it also retards timing as you shift. I fixed both of these issues with a ECU tune and it's like a totally different car...from a 5mph roll...you can break the tires loose through most of 1st gear. So far my mods are:

Vararam ram air intake
Vararam Throttlebody spacer
Diablosport 93 octane tune

The Vararam is actually good for 10RWHP standing still...and at speed (over 60mph) your getting around 40RWHP and is backed up by track times.......the tuner is rated at about 20RWHP...and is backed by dyno sheets. The other cars I was looking at were the EVO, STI, and Elise.

i think the Vette is a hell of a deal, its a great car for your normal roads as well as the track. I love the HUD, I always wished my car has that

for some reason, all my female friends thinks the Vette is for people with midlife crisis?

I agree-- what else power-wise is priced anywhere near that. Especially at the discounts on the '08s they've been giving right off the bat; it's as if GM and the dealers expected a rotten economy and without hesitation the invoice deals are everywhere.

Are you shooting for invoice or below deal?

playdoh... -- yes those two are still under consideration. The C6 Z06 has captured my attention because its powerful, sexy, a HELL of a deal for the power you get, and also because its the only thing out right now I can go walk around and look out.

I am reserving judgment till all three are out and have gone thru the reviwers and people start getting a feel for them.

RX26b - what I'm seeing is that the prices here in Dallas-Fort Worth TX are very odd... some dealers are selling 2500 below invoice, and some are selling for 5000 ABOVE invoice. Depending on the situation of dealers/economy/etc in 6 months I would target invoice of course, but at the same time i do respect a business need to make SOME profit. Its a complicated situation to explain, but i have no problem paying a LITTLE extra as long as its worth it and I don't get the run around. In a weird way I look at it like a tip... if i walk into a dealership and they play ball with me, treat me like an adult (Im only 25), and give me a great expereince... cool.

Given that they build, what, at least 7 thousand Z06s a year, and this being already its 3rd full year of production, I'm surprised the prices have stayed up for this long. How long can the economy sustain a $70,000+/non-convertible/no automatic available/torque monster? Honestly, I was guessing that halfway through the '07 production run invoice deals would've been possible. MSRP, or in the neighborhood, won't hold up for much longer (and if you look at what vendors on the Vette board are offering, it's a thing of the past) given that there's a plentiful supply of 1 and 2 year old cars which'll be I don't want to call itflooding the market as time passes.

Test drove a 335i coupe on Saturday. All I have to say OH MY GOD. The power was great but the handling was not as tight as the 8. Deffinitly a every day driver with good handling and great power. Don't thing it would be as fun in the corners though, but I can forgive that due to the 0-60 time of 4.8 sec

Apparently driver feedback is much, much improved by the new steering rack. C&D drives an '07 and '08 back to back and mention (repeatedly) how much better the '08 feels. They even went so far as to say it was in the same ballpark as Porsche, IIRC, and R&T called it Porsche-like, so there's obviously been a pretty substantial change. Might be worth another test drive, once the '08s really start hitting the dealer's lots.

i would do the same but since it will most likely be a hit when it does come out, i would expect to pay 5k to 10k over sticker price.

Brand new car....I would have to go with Evo, Sti, BMW 335i, BMW 135i or a down payment on a Nissan Skyline.

If a "base" Nissan Skyline can pace with a 911 Turbo around the Nur-ring for about half the price, I don't see why not.

Way to much $$, why not get a 335i coupe, Stock 0-60 in 4.8 as tested by Edmunds and Car & Driver. Spend about $179 for a Juicebox and get, 13.1@106mph, and 0-60 comes as quickly as 4.4 seconds with only an increase of 1.75psi in boost. Another 3K in suspension upgrades and you'll be dangerouse on the track. Same can be done with the new to be 135i. Wait 6 months and get a 35K 135i add 5K and yopu have yourself a bad *** machine.

wait for the bmw 135i, twin-turbo. possibly bmw z4. cayman s is another good choice.

or you could buy a >20k rx8 used. and either mazsport turbo it+other upgrades. or do a 20b engine swap and join the handful of elite rx8-20b owners in the world.

i'd go with the rx8+mazsport turbo.
