I can't believe all the hating going on in here..... I know some of you think the trunk isn't a good base to start with but damn it looks handsome. Really awesome work that can be appreciated.

The photographer is also really good, light is warm in the highlights and cool in the reflections.

 

It's a bit strange the way the truck seems to cast no shadow Looks like the shadow under the car was burned in to make it even with the non shadowed pavement. that or it's a Vampire truck.

There are some serious photography skills at work there, as well as at least a 700 dollar camera and a 600 dollar lens

yeah i know, im thinking 8000 buys you an above average solid color repaint of a car with flake.

What is technically incorrect about that print? It's got a full range of brightness, Contrast is good, The entire subject is acceptably sharp, and the depth of field is such that only the subject is in focus, leaving the background and foreground pleasantly blurred.

I think it's a great print. What am I missing that you see?

 

There is no shadow because the sun had set, perfect time for pics.

i was just giving alfy a hard time if you've seen his drawings with MSPaint you'd get it i left the off because it reads as a better joke "straight"

On another note, why is it still fashionable to trash American cars? Yeah they sucked in the 80's and most of the 90's, but American automakers are building some pretty decent rides lately.

I still think if that cost 8k someone got hosed, unless there's more to it than that such as extensive prepwork and high quality materials etc. and doing the jambs and under the hood etc. If I had 8k to spend on paint, I'd be killing at the shows this year, maybe it's more expensive where this guy is, but here where I live 8k goes a long way. I also think that truck should be slammed or lifted, but not stock height with ill fitting wheels and tons of fender gap. Just my opinion, that's all.

I spoke to the owner and he has plans for airbags within the next couple of months and different wheels. BTW the owner did not pay for this paintjob. He's sponsored by a body shop in Jacksonville.

The photos have a distinct direction which is clear and held with continuity, thus respectable regardless of whether one admires said direction.

That said - what is with the arguing?? Photography is an art. Just as all other arts (dancing, music, drawing, architecture, etc) there will never be one solid consensus - more specifically with those who like to practice any given art.

A.Mair - Alex was simply giving his opinion. The shots do not tickle his fancy - he never claimed to be able to do "better". Photography is about individual perception/perspective thus just because one critiques or offers his/her opinion that does not mean they are challenging you or implying inferiority. He was offering an opinion - perhaps he respected your style enough to not try to 'be a bit more constructive' and offer up alternative techniques?

I know you're both aware of this but somehow a little scuffle has developed for absolutely no reason.

 

theres more to it than just an opinion, its the manner in which it was given and also this is something that tested my patience before in the photography thread, he has an attitude when he gives comments, its not constructive in any way.

If it wasnt for criticism and feedback i wouldnt be able to take pics the way i do today, but i dont need snide remarks from someone every time i post a pic who still has a lot to learn and their pics are far from perfect.

That being said i may come across as arrogant, but i am not, if he gave his opinion in a polite manner id take it all in and maybe he could tell me why he didnt like the series and we discuss it like adults instead he comments on something i take a lot of pride in as if he's 14.

Then continues to say post that in the POTN forum and ill get laughed at, i then proved him wrong by showing already did and dint get laughed at, no apology though because hes obviously got too much pride to apologize

The guy has a bad attitude at the end of the day, and is far from mature

 

It just all seems amplified as others seem to jump on his *** simultaneously but hey, thats public forums, I suppose. Too bad us youngins don't have some amnesty on the basis of naiveté :P

In my opinion, all of the pictures are oversaturated, the truck looks fake and the shadows/highlights seem off. Also, some of the touchup spots that you did are an eyesore, such as on the roof of the truck in this photo.

I understand that you are going for a certain look and style, it just does nothing for me and that is why I posted "the pictures are meh". Was that too hard to understand? Obviously the pictures are above average when you compare it to something that others may shoot with a P&S or even an SLR with no editing at all. But I think in this case, I would've liked what came straight out of the camera vs what you posted up.

BTW, I think the "rules" like cropping out trees and powerlines are stupid too, whoever posted that. Photography is an art, and there should be no rules. As tiltmode43 posted, "there will never be one solid consensus".

 

Odd discussions. There's always the mistaken view that if something is art then there's no rules and opinions are 100% free. This isn't paintings by a naked hippy.

And I that stuff is bullshit. There's plenty of rules and techniques and guides that must be followed, whether it's webdesign, 3d design, arcitechture, photography, etc.

I like A.Mair's style, but I think trucks are ugly and useless. That doesn't hide from the fact that he's got a great technique and unique style. Why should he change that? I prefer shots of great cars like the 8 though

 

Its weird because i havent done any touch ups on the truck at all.
There are not too many shadows because the sun is set and shadows and lighting is less harsh than at mid day which is when you tend to shoot.
Im over this discussion and talking to you about it. I think you should post your stuff in the POTN forum, those guys helped me a lot there, especially Frank who has shot cars for 30+ years and who also said that these were a great series and the lighting was perfect.
