thanks. There is great potential for the 335i. The 335i shares 90% suspension components as the E9X M3 does, doesnt take a whole lot to achieve that. The sad part is that M3 owners are getting as worse gas mileage as RX8's and need to spend in excess of 10k to achieve the same hp and torque levels a 335i can do in under $2000.
At the end, it's all about the car which 'logically' satisfies its owner most of all.
The new 1M already beats the current E90 M3 around the ring.
However, I did read that the 1M did post a faster time at a different, smaller/tighter track (dezau mentioned the track named "hockenheimring", and I believe he's correct).
Regardless, you still have a reasonable perspective there.
And yes that whole 335i vs M3 has been beat to a pulp at the bimmerforums..so sad.

honestly i feel that the nurburgring's overplayed... smaller tracks like hockenheim has a better value in judging car performance. i mean like... how often do you really track on a longass track like the nurburgring... especially with a 693287648 miles straight like that lol

I still dream to go out to the Ring one day, that's for sure though.

But when you say a modded e90 can easily match up with a e46, in what way are you talking about? track, drag, etc?

Ah yes, the wonderful world of modifications.
At the end, it's all about the car which 'logically' satisfies its owner most of all.
If I'm not mistaken, I think the new 1M recorded a time which was 8:12 around the Ring, in other words it was 10 seconds faster than the e46 M3. I believe the e9x M3 recorded 8:05 around the Ring.
However, I did read that the 1M did post a faster time at a different, smaller/tighter track (dezau mentioned the track named "hockenheimring", and I believe he's correct).

And don't you just love that...

I spent a good amount of time in a DCT M3 and god I love it, but just knowing the cost of maintenance down the line would kill me and getting shitty gas mileage, that was one of the reasons why I got rid of my 8 LOL

Well in a sense anything. E46 should have a slight edge though so maybe a lightly modded e9x would help a bit, more like depending on the driver? The e9x makes 30hp less and weigh a lil' more. Then again numbers can't tell everything.
But iirc it's the e46 CSL that beats the e9x, laptime-wise the stock e46 was pretty comparable to e9x 335is. i might be wrong.
I'm still debating though which next car that I wanna have. The 04-06 e46 coupe or a 135 or a e90/92.
E46'd cost around 25k for a nice one low miles. Same goes to a E9x maybe slightly higher mileage. However the 135s are abt 30k. 135 should have the best potential of the bunch, but again the E46's been my dream car since it came out :D Call me a fool, but honestly I'd take it over a E92 M3 :D
Watching the value of the 8 drop lower and lower just makes me cry... 10k then 9k and now almost 8k... sigh
and talking abt gas milage.. I spent $56 today for 230 miles... @&#(%*&^@(

Awesome 335i. My friend has a new 335d (premium sport package) and he has been looking into the JB Diesel. Unfortunately he emailed Cobb and they do not have plans for a 335d Cobb AP yet. Quite a quick diesel monster with the 425lb-ft (1st and 2nd gear wheel spin galore). Gets over 30mpg average too with a little romping every now and then. Insane.
