Trigger traffic lights to change
http://www.wonderhowto.com/how-to/vi...o-green-78256/
Anyone know how legitimate this is? All it takes is a neodymium magnet. I dont know how efficient it would be for a car since I think it's more focused on motorcycles and other light weights because they have a hard time getting the traffic light sensors to recognize them. I came across it and thought it would be interesting to try.

I thought this was going to be that remote that goes around that you press and instantly changes the light to green and the perpendicular to go from green to red. The purpose was for emergency vehicles to not have to make complete stops at traffic lights.
Interesting to try, but I have not had any real problem at the traffic lights that have this for myself with the 8. Interesting tho.

No it won't work.
The detector is Infrared, not magnetic or radio. It's done this way so its only triggered at short distances for emergency vehicles.
Also only major cities are equipped with them and even then its only certain intersections. They look like mini cameras usually having 2 lenses and usually hanging next to the traffic lights.
Also if you are caught with the IR transmitter its federal jail time. It's taken very seriously.
Also the infrared transmitters sold on the net won't work. They don't transmit the proper code. Each city for the most part has its own code.
That's all I'll say on the matter since I have worked with them and know them well. I don't want anyone to get any ideas.
I repeat, if you are caught with the IR transmitter its federal jail time. It's taken very seriously.

Edit: Beat me to it. Yes Opticom's are the most used device.

Right, but thats a unit that corresponds to the sensor beside the actual traffic light (the little camera looking thing). What i was referring to in my original post is done by using a a very strong neodymium magnet to trigger the sensors that are below the surface of the pavement.

Cars and motorcycles already do a good enough job. Why do you need to spend money on a magnet?
It's like hitting the "walk" button at a crosswalk. You hit it once and it triggers a low priority condition for the controller. Same thing happens when you pull up.
Also in 10 years everything will be video or time based. Most major cities have video up or have plans to.

Yes, it works. But it only triggers the Light to know a vehicle is present.
It will not change the light. It will tell the light you are there and then it will go through its normal sequence.
If a vehicle is not detected it won't change to green unless the light is programed to change at certain time intervals. This magnet lets the system know you are there.
Its great for motorcycles.
I have been riding for 30 years so I know they work.
This device will not change the light to gren in a flash. you have to wait for the normal cycle.

There are a couple of new underground optical trinkets floating around the black market. The first is illegal, the second hasn't been caught yet.
One is the emergency vehicle simulator that uses the IR flasher to change traffic lights.
The second (my favorite) is the focused UV lamp that shines down on the rear license plate. It produces a striped pattern not visible to the eye that makes a photo of the plate unreadable.
