The CX7 would have killed sales for the Tribute anyway and the # of Tributes sold would hurt the CX7 sales......it's better that Mazda removes all internal competition for the CX7 so it has a good first year of production.

Mazda better fix their issues with the MZR DISI Turbo engine ASAP since it will be used in this car and in the new MPV (JDM) inaddition to the MS6.

What's wrong with the engine?

^^ try running "search". It has come up in at least 2 or 3 threads. You can also try Mazda6 forums.

The short of it is for some reason the engine is losing power after about 4500 (or was it 4200?) rpm. Some have thought it was fuel (91 octane vs 93) combined with cooling issues from the top mounted intercooler causing detonation... thus the ECU pulls timing. However, from reading what owners have been saying it doesn't appear to be the issue... no one is sure what yet, but ECU or wastegate are suspect.

the issue is only in the MS6 and thats because its runnign over 18 lbs of boost. when it detects knock it cuts boost(thru the wastegate) and that engine with no boost is underpowered for the weight of the MS6.

On the CX-7 and the MPV they are not runnign near the boost. HP is down to @244 vs the @274 of the MS6. But they dont/wont have the issue.

^^ nope Zoom... worse than that. After the boost cuts out it doesn't come back. Which is why some have thought it's the wastegate solenoid. If it's just pulling timing or cutting boost because of detonation, then once you let off the gas or the load drops (because of power being cut) it should come back again... problem is that it doesn't seem to. Even the better running cars see boost cut off at about 7,500rpm, and then the lack of boost over 4500rpm situation. Shutting off the car and turning it back on seems to reset it.And it's doing this in various climates and with various octanes (91 or 93) of gas. People are suspecting that the solenoid is either faulty... getting stuck or sending a bad signal to the ECU... or the ECU has issues. Either way the situation seems to leave you with only as much boost as the wastegate's spring can hold (5 or 6psi ish) and then is open after that... thus no boost after a certain rpm.

I dunno what is causing it, but Mazda had better get to the bottom of it and fix it. Doesn't matter if the tune is different if the problem is hardware/mechanical and again it doesn't matter if it really is only on the MS6 because public perception will be bad as the same engine is being used in other models.

According to the Mazda6 guys the boost is something like 15.7psi not over 18.

dude i know all about it. i know techs who have been in the car when its happened while they were trying to reproduce the issue. i know ok? but its not happening to uk/euro cars. has it happened to cars there? there are quite a number of cars its not happening to at all. they are working on it as a top priority. the boost is 18.something. spikes of 20.

cx-7 buyers have no need to worry at all

I know you have good inside info and know techs. There have been many posts of people saying their techs had no idea (or maybe it was didn't care...). I'm going by what other people who have the car have been saying. I don't own one, much less have driven one... probably wouldn't either. But you probably wuold have figured that after seeing my posts when I first saw it in person at the TOkyo Motorshow... I don't care about stiffness... the sedan profile sucks... the hatch is the best look on the Mazda6. The buldging hood is not only heavy, but ugly and intrusive (outward view). The black plastic rear bumper with integrated exhaust outlets... I don't know what the hell they were thinking there... for a car that is supposed to be more "mature" than the Evo/STi or Legacy with their hood scoops... that rear bumper looks more FF than the one on the Mazda6s AND it's fugly.

Boost is 18? Spikes of 20?! WTF are they thinking?! Duh! Of course you're having these problems Mazda! How the hell is Mitsubishi getting around 280hp out of 2.0L and Subaru 300+hp from 2.5L without direct injection and without pushing all that boost? And who in the hell thought that you can push that kind of boost with not only a top-mounted intercooler, but feeding the damn thing through the front bumper instead of through a proper hood scoop?! That idiot should be fired.

The latest issue of RX-7 Magazine had a nice long write up on the MS Concept RX-8... more on that some other time. In another mag it mentioned that the MS Concept Atenza/M6 was packing a bigger intercooler and turbo. Sounds like a solution to me. Too bad the bean counters will whine...

BTW... as I said. CX-7 owners may have no reason to worry, but it may still impact CX-7 sales if people know it's the same engine. Public perception.

My wife and I have purchased a CX-7 and we were allready concerned about a
4 cyl in this car in lieu of the V6 in the Rav4 and Morano. Hope that they get this worked our or we might have to use the escape clause.
