Its really Sad to see all of the old Toyota Triple Threat (Supra, MR-2, Celica) from the 80s and 90s eventually get discounted.

The Triple Crown however, (Crown, Camry and Corrolla) made Toyota the most profitable car company in the world.

I know this may sounds stupid... but Toyota isn't stupid...

They will make a sports cars... come on HONDA.. MAZDA.. NISSAN...

I know for a fact toyota will make a Rear-Drive sports car.. no earlier then 2007... but te "Supra" is dead... rumors say Supra isn't whatever it is.. Toyota discontinued due to poor sales.. why would you even buy a MR-2 when you have cars like RX-8, 350Z, Crossfire, G35... it would be pathetic to spend 25 on a celica... when you can get a rx-8 for couple grand more... Toyota will build a sports car... i know this guy at a dealership that said... supra is dead.... but toyota is working a sports car if the Mr-2 and Celica get discontinued...

SO called toyota first sports car... 2000GT will make a resurrection... so we'll see...
And the Scion Tc is one-nice car... i test drove the 5-speed... its nice and zipppy for 16G's... it has equal 0-60 as Lexus IS... and 1/4 mile is just couple tenths off... so this sucker goes... for so little...

Isnt Toyota going to make an appearnce in F1, im pretty sure i have heard the anouncers mumbling something about it. If so, I am sure they will come back with some great cars.

Personally, I love toyota, they are a great company, and have provided my family with reliable and safe transportation for many years. My mom recently got a new solara, and i have to admit its a pretty nice car. I like the looks, and its got good power, but the best part is everything is so refined. Its the little things that impress me about the car, for instance, the turn signal lever is ultra smooth and quiet. Our other cars, and we have a lot of them are all clunky.

As for the celica, I never liked them. My brother has one, with some queer body kit on it. I cant justify purchasing cars like that, (read fwd) and certainly not spending money to make them faster. I have always been of the philosphy that you can polish a turd as much as you want....but its still a turd. Hopefully toyota brings back a rwd car, I am a fan of the is300.

I thought Toyota has been making appearances in F1? Sure, they're not that great, but, er...I can't finish that sentence. Toyota and Panasonic dumped buttloads of money to get their F1 program in the bottom-middle of the pack. It's not easy! Their inexperience has been their downfall for the past few years. They will get better with time.

I am a NASCAR Fan and Toyota entered the Truck series this year. Also, they have finally produced a engine that passed NASCAR standards for the Nextel Cup . So they will soon Be Racing the likes of Dale Jr. . I believe this is the way they are going. The biggest and fastest growing american sport . They will have a RWD Fast Car of some type . IMO

I really hope you are right. Toyota does show a lot of sporty/sports concept cars at the different auto shows!

I almost bought a Celica a couple of years back, but couldn't get the model with the color and options that I wanted (side air bags & ABS) at the time either new from the dealer or used, plus I really was waiting for the RX-8 to come out ... but I really like the exterior look of the present Celica – sadly for me the tC is not very sleek looking, the front reminds me of the blunt volvo front headlights/grill treatment

The MRS is a great car too bad the engine sux in it. The cat design is so bad causing a lot of engine failures. They should have put the 2ZZ under the boot.

The Celica was called All-Track (stand for all track turbo), too bad they only made 2 generations of those in the US. The problem with the latest Celica is over priced as well as that fact that it's a front wheel drive. Toyota need to make rear wheel drive again, modern "save money" product line FF sux.

Was talking about the discontuation of the MR2/Celica to my friend who's a manager at a Toyota dealership. He did say they have a sports car in the works to replace it, but had no specs or time frame.

Toyota tried to bring back the AE86's heritage by debuting the Corolla T-Sport in Europe. Unfortunately, this car, though it sported the 190-hp 2ZZGE engine, had horrible handling, front-wheel-drive, and it was pretty much ugly. If they brought a modern iteration of the AE86, what would it look like, and who would Toyota market the car to? These are questions I'm sure they ask themselves. Toyota is out to make money. Sadly, they don't care about the niche market as much as they do everyone else. There would be no point selling a RWD hatchback; the AE86, though it is quite popular amongst enthusiasts like ourselves, is not going to sell to everyone else. Ask an average car buyer if they remember the Corolla GT-S. Most will respond, "huh?" Those people don't care, and neither does Toyota. It would be nice if Toyota brought back a new Supra or image car Maybe then we could have a RWD Corolla hatchback, or a modern version of the Celica GT-4. Building sports cars is good for a car company. But making money is better.

I use to have a corolla gts and that car was fun as hell until I came out of the supermarket to find it in flames. It was one of best cars I owned and took everything I threw at it during my high school years. Rest in peace good friend.

Until people wean themselves from suv and mini-vans, I think this fate will befall the majority of cheap sportscoupes. I never drove a Celica, but the old supercharged MR2 was a blast to drive (not sure about the latest generation).
The fact that the Z, g35, 8, made it back on the market suprised the heck out of me. A little while back, I thought we'd have to go to Porsche to get a sportscar or settle for a coupe derived from a 4 door sedan.

Guys, sports cars are beginning to get popular again nowadays...
Toyota is not killing the Celica or Supra, they are replacing it.

The replacement Supra is due 2006, so is Celica.
A replacement concept for the Celica is already in the works... I just bought a Japanese magazine with the pics... best car or mycar cant remember, Ill scan it if I have the time after work today.

If you consider the HUGE boost of budget they put into their F1 team (which is now second only to Ferrari in money spent)... I think you can be sure that they are very much interested in motor sport. You dont have to spend billions on such performance engine research if all they plan on doing is make clunky giant sedans and suvs.

While on the subject of discontinued Japanese sports car... watch next year... therell be a barrage of sports cars out at the same time, the latest generation of GT-R, Silvia, NSX, Supra, Celica, RX-7 all set to debut on the same year. And with none of the 280ps limit even...

Supra or 2000GT ( One of Toyota's first sport cars.. LOOKS AWESOME )...
One of those classics will make a resurrection... i talked to two guy at a dealership... One was talking out of his As$... "The Supra is comming back in 2005 as a 2005 model..." yeah right.. the other guy said " Toyota is in the works for a sports car.. it is on the drawing boards... and earliest to make production would be 2007... no earlier..." now that man i believe...

Now 2007 is reasonable... prototype... concept... n such... the RX-8 took 48-60 months to actually make a final production... So 2007-2008 seems ryte... considering that 2005's are already hitting the streets..

As for the MR-2 that little machine is priced too high... it should be priced 20,000 as someone mentions earlier... and Celica is overpriced too... 24,000... thats ridiculous... its should be like 20,000 MAX..

Toyota is smart removing the Celica and MR-2... because SRT-4 and upcomming Pontiac Solstice has that department OWNED...

Owned an 87 MR2, traded it in for a 91 MR2 (non turbo). I enjoyed the 87 much more than the 91. There is something about a short wheel base, rear wheel drive, no power steering, light weight, bullet proof 4 banger which is a joy to drive. I still miss the 87. To a degree I find it better than my 8.
We need more RWD affordable cars. Maybe Toyota will go back to its early 80s roots when it came to affordable sports cars.

Toyota should bring back the Trueno, awsome car... handling like a champ

Nissan should reallly bring the SX-series back (240SX)
I love those cars there so lite and bullet-proff engine... RWD baby

they stop makin all the nice cars... every rwd car is more than 25 Grand these days...

Pontiac Solstice should send a wake up call to japanese companies..
Under 20K RWD Nice tranny... looks n handling :D

Man, thats a skyrocket from when I had bought mine in 2000.
I bought mine at 22.6 which was a $200 markup because it was a "GOLD EDITION" Weee gold emblums *twirls finger*
I thought that was a great price, specially when my best friend had an S2K and it cost 46K (Insane markup) and it didn't even have a glass rear window.

It was a nice little car. Great handling. I was sad to lose it. (I'm never buying low performance long life tires again)
at 2098lbs it was zippy. From the threads i've read on people turboing it, it gets pretty quick at 330hp, heard of one guy taking it to 180mph. I think that's pretty decent.

This is all a little weird to hear since I had just read an article on the 2005 MR-2 Spyder coming with a turbo. *shrug*

They are starting thier third season in F1 and have been making small improvements; I read that they have the largest budget of any team including Ferrari... There have been rumors of the return of the supra and maybe as the first hybrid sportscar...

It sort of reminds me of the current 350Z with softer lines. I might be the only one here, but I really loved the harder edged/angled lines on the current 2004 Celica, it is very sleek – nothing like the tC.

Anyway I hope the Celica (or some other Toyota 2+2 fastback that's a hatchback) comes out! I'm all for sports cars also being affordable, efficient and reliable!

I've still have not got over the RX-8 not being a hatchback (from way back in 1999 – 2002)
