I guess the extra fuel economy of a Prius doesn't offset the extra $9-10 grand in price over a 5 year period. Also note that it's cheaper to drive a Mazda 3 for 5 years than a Prius for 5 years. I guess its more of the principle of using less gas, rather than the actual money saved when considering the Prius. I'll take the Mazda 3 over all contenders considered and would ride the city bus before I drove a Smart Fourtwo.
