TX Thoughts on Nissan Maxima?

I recently saw one on the road and thought it was beautiful, especially with the 19's. I've done research on it and Nissan claims that it is the "world's fastest front-wheel drive car." I don't have any experience with front-wheel drive so I cannot comment on that.

Anybody own one? Reviews and thoughts would be appreciated.

While I agree with you on that fully, I was doing more of a comparo in its own category, more of a 2nd car to purchase. I think they look great, idk about FWD tho..

Unrelated but I concede it gets harder and harder each day to figure out a replacement for the rx, but I give up and realize that there will never be a replacement for it.

No where near. That is false advertisement if what you quoted was what Nissan said.

They are decent sedans to drive, but there are better options. You live in Texas, so there would be very little reason (if any) for you to go FWD.

My younger brother has an '07 Maxima, and after spending a reasonable amount of time with the newer version, I'd have to say that it's a significant improvement over the last generation that my brother has.

The interior is very much improved, not to mention the exterior is super sexy & stylish. When I test drove the car, it was very comfortable, responsive, and had excellent power. Of course, it's not a sports car like the RX-8, but it's a solid car to own. The only thing that gets me is that the loaded versions come close to $40k. Good car, nevertheless.

^ With some brief research via Nissanusa.com, it does indeed state that the current Maxima comes as front engine / front-wheel drive. : )

I have owned three Maxima's, a 91 SE, 97' GLE, and a 2001 SE 6 spd. All great cars and lasted well over 100k. Auto Transmissions usually died at 130k or so but other than that I had no problems with any of them aside from the crappy Bose system in the older ones. In the VQ powered Maxima torque steer is ridiculous. But I could easily beat 350's with bolt ons and the the Stillen SC made it a beast that was only fats in a straight line

If they made it RWD or AWD, I would own one as a daily but honestly, you won't find many Maxima enthusiasts here so...............

I had one before. it was a 2002. I still think putting more than 255HP on the front wheels is pointless.

Meh I was making about 275WHP on my Civic and running high 12's. It just depends on what you are doing with the car.

My friend had an 2004 Maxima with an intake that sounded so awesome!

I drove it once its really fast -- Way faster than the 8 but its kinda bulky so the turns are crazy.
But its a nice str8 line car if you hook it up right. I think he was pushing like 265HP with 255 TQ.

Yep i have seen a lot of people bash FWD cars but I did my Autox my CRX as well and I have seen many CRX's and Type R's whoop up on more powerful RWD cars. It is all about how a vehicle is built and setup.

Maxima's have always been FWD. You should look at Infiniti M45 or M35 because they are RWD and or AWD.

I owned a 2002 Maxima with the 3.5VQ, good car , had I, H, E and she scooted pretty nicely. Honestly i use to be at the **** out of RX-8's in a strait line but in the the end , for overall speed, handeling, looks, etc, the RX-8 wins hands down. I hated the cheap interior that my Maxima had, it was almost as bad as Ford's ficher price plastic that they used in all there vehicles. It sat 4 comfortably , handome looks, handled alright (had the SE version) but could never reach the handling ability of the RX-8.

The new ones are much nicer and more refined, if you had to get one , go with the SE version, at least you will get the better suspension, wheels and grippier tires.

If your looking for a fun 4 door car, M35/M45 are fun, G35/G37 are fun, and even my personal favorite because I own this , a Lexus Gs400. My 04'Gs400 is damn fast , handles pretty well, and seats 5 comfortably. Not an ounce of problems out of her either , 300HP going to the proper wheels too!
