reflash via handheld unit (no mailing your ECu necessary). There is also an end-user programmable software package you can add so that you can tune it yourself.

I learned something else that's a bit interesting as well as suspicious. I looked up nationwide advertised inventory at all 590 Subaru dealerships in US, and there are 282 for sale and being advertised right now, just on those sites alone. Of course many don't even have websites, but what's surprising is that well over a dozen dealerships have 5 or more of these cars. I have been on the STI forums, and there are a lot of owners on there already, as well as people who pre-ordered and are awaiting delivery.

Now, is it just me, or does this LIMITED TO ONLY 800 seems suspicious? Each dealership near me has sold 3 each already and each have another, and the man stated that if I change my mind, they will be getting 2 more in next month. I have no proof, but I'm calling Subaru out on BS, and I feel sorry for all those people paying sticker. No way with this success is Subaru just gonna stop making these if it's outselling the Regular STI. Yes, they placed a plaque on each one stating it's individual number, but, it's also being produced in the same vin order as the regular ones, and I just have a feeling this 800 is not gonna be the final result. I think I'll be able to get one of these next year. If it's true, they will all be sold by end of year, and we will see it off their website, and never again until the next generation.

Either way, I think people are beng duped. There's a lot of guys on the forum that think they have something special by having a serial numbered STI limited, but I think (more like hope) that this is just a ploy, and they'll make more if the demand calls for it. If I am right, there's gonna be an awful lot of pissed off people thinking they need to act now and get one before anyone else does. If there are only 800, why was I able to find 282 advertised all this time later, test drive one, and get offered one at invoice, after 6 in my small area have already been sold, and the dealership said they will be getting 2 more in November. Something's fishy.

Uhhhh, each car is numbered, would be pretty tough for Subaru to dupe people.

It's nothing more then a taped on tag that says #... of 800 on the dash. One of the people on the forum ordered two STIS, one limited, and one not limited, and the vin numbers are right next to each other. One thing is for certain, these Limiteds were made on the same production line, so the numbers mean nothing as far as what was produced first.

Well, If I'm the only guy that finds this a bit odd, so be it. It can only mean that this car isn't taking off like I had thought it would. We shall see. In a month I'm gonna go back and look up the inventory. Who's to say they won't just change a couple of things and make this available in 07, but without the tag, and perhaps slight cosmetic changes. We shall see.

The car has a lot of things that a lot people who buy the STI could care less about. It'll sell well but I never really thought it was going to fly off the lots. The biggest thing keeping it from selling out quiuckly is the fact that there is a new STI due out shortly. Subaru has done several limited edition Imprezas in the past, they've never gone over what they said they would make in a given production year. That doesn't mean there won't be more available next year if they're not quite ready for the new body style.

Well, actually a lot of guys on the STI forums would love to trade their car in for one, but most already got their 06 and can't. Had they come out with this one year ago, no doubt it would have flown right out of the showrooms. The STI forum was filled with such a rush, that these guys pre-ordered them, and thought paying MSRP was a good price. I got news for them. They paid/are paying too much.

I strongly disagree with you on your first sentence. A lot of STI owners would prefer the lip over the big wing, they love that front lip as well, and they don't want that roof wing. The only complaint I see is the fact that it doesn't have BBS wheels. The moonroof is something most owners compained about not being able to have as an option previously as well. The current owners who traded in their previous STIS for the Limited also agree with me that the black leather seats are way more confortable. It's a better car PERIOD then my 04, no doubt about it, and to me it's by far the best looking STI out there to date. I hope they at least have a wing delete option after these are sold, and no pink stickers.

The 07 Limited has a lip spoiler instead of the wing, and also doesn't have the roof spoiler like the regular 06-07 models do.

OK, so not quite 3 years... The site has been changed, but it was listed as under development on their main page in late '03 early '04.

The more that I think about it, and read on various STI forums, the more I realize that a big part of the problem isn't the demand. It's the simple fact that both the STI Limited and the Regular STI MSRP for the same price, and most dealers are refusing to sell the Limited for less then MSRP right now, with many marking them up, yet you can pick up a regular 07 for $2000 less. The car is very much in demand, more so then the regular STI, but not for $2000 more, and especially when there are 06s left selling for $3000-$4000 less. Money talks.

I'm sure there are some people out there who'd prefer the Limited, but would gladly save $3000+ and snag up an 06, or save 2 grand for a regular 07. It makes sense, because as nice as the Limited is, it's not worth spending that much more. Many have paid full msrp or higher, but not enough of them as of right now. If the MSRP thing doesn't work, the discounts will start, and the cars will be gone in a swoop.

From what I have read recently, it's the same thing as the regular 07 STI, (which itself has been tamed in suspension and interior sound) except cosmetically, where it's much tamer and refined looking. You replace the big wing with a mild lip spoiler, remove the roof spoiler, make the interior black with heated leather seats, add a moonroof and some nicer inrerior and exterior trim, and then put less expensive wheels on it, combined with the wing and roof spoiler delete to even out the price.

It's all up on the subaru.com site, plenty to look at. Pretty sure the all new Impreza wil be out in a yearso many will wait for it. The Evo X is scheduled for aroun Feb 08 or so the latest rumors say. We are supposed to see a more or less production version Evo at NAIAS in 07.

Going to be a great time for performance cars over the next several years.

No, we probably won't see either til late next year, maybe even early 2008.

Also, I stopped by my old Suby dealer today. They had no STI Limited and would not be getting any more since they were soldout. They said the only way they could get one would be a dealer trade and that the chaces of that happening were slim. So if they're not already sitting on the lot, or ordered by the dealer they will not be getting any more.

That's why I'll never lease a car... There are going to be a lot of great choices come this time next year, right now the most appealing cars will be all new in a short time.

In case it's not obvious, anything a dealer tells you is suspect information. All the rumors I've heard point to a late 2007/early 2008 release.
