Test Drove 07 STi Limited today

Man oh Man. This was one of the stupidest things I've done in a while. I had to go see it, so I drove to dealer to have a peak. Of course it wasn't long before someone came out, and I had purchased my previous 04 STi from there and the same salesman remembered me instantly, and asked me how my 04 was doing. I told him I traded it in for a Mazdaspeed 6 lease.

Anyway, I was in my 06 S2000 at the time, and it wasn't long before the guy came back with the keys, and said "normally we don't allow this for such a limited car (apparently only 1 of 800 that will ever be produced)", but he said, lets take it for a quick spin, since you are a valued customer. He was very strict about revving it, as the car had 2 miles on it. I told him no worries, as I know how an STi feels power wise, so there's no need for me to drive it. SO I drove it like a grandma as promised. What I wanted was to get the feel out of this car, see how the ride was, and the noise.

First of all, the black leather seats are very nice, and more comfortable then the seats in my blue 04 STI. Secondly, the car is quieter. It appears to me that they have put some sound deadoning in this car. Thirdly, the suspension is most certainly more livable. Of course who can complain about the heated seats and power moonroof. The car is EXACTLY what I have been looking for. The front lip and the rear lip spoiler make it very tame, yet very sleek and refined looking. I have to say that this car is WAYYYYY nicer looking then my previous 04. Not even close IMO. The deals aren't fabulous on this car naturally, since it likely will be sold in a week or two, but he started talking some numbers, and I had to put a quick stop to it. There's part of me that's ready to say F this, cut my losses, and unload both the 06 S2000 and my Speed 6 for one, and be done with this multiple car thing, but I doubt the numbers would ever go in my favor, and it's simply too soon. I truly hope that Subaru keeps making this, because next spring I could pull the trigger if one is available at a good price. If they do only make 800 like that claim, there will be none left by the end of the year. Many of them are already sold.

All in all, this car is really something special IMO, and it should outsell the regular STI hands down if Subaru chose to. The MSRP isn't any more, but they cut costs by not having the wing, and also going with less expensive rims in this model, among other things. I never thought the STI, or any Subaru was ever all that attractive, but for some reason, this car is just so beautiful to me. I knew I shouldn't have gone to the dealership.

I knew you were going to love this car and regret your MS6 I REALLY like em, especially the white. I'm holding out for the redesign STI and Evo X before I make any decisions on my next car.

The redesigned ones should be sharp. The interiors should be improved.

The STI limited will most likely become a production trim level in the 08 model line. Its what they did with the Legacy GT Spec-B.

Well, there's really no regret right now, just drooling, but it's lingering. I'm just dreaming like a little kid right now, but it will wear off soon. The reason is because there's no way to haggle this STI Limited near invoice at this time, and I knew that going in. I don't know that for a fact, but I am likely correct. Now, if the guy calls me up and says we can sell this car for 32,000, then I went there and they gave me $28000 trade in on my 06 S2000, and then a $24000 trade in on my 06 Mazdaspeed 6, and 4.9 financing for 60 months, then I'd likely be driving home in one this week.

I don't think that's going to happen since there is a totally new model scheduled for late next year.

Sounds like you really want it. Why don't you contact him and start negotiating? No harm in that.

I wouldn't hold your breath if I were you lol. In the long run it's probably better you don't get it. The Evo SE and STI Limited are really nice cars, but they only exist because both cars will be totally different and most likely better come this time next year.

I agree with Ike, dont get it, wait for something better next year! Get busy with modding the MS6 or S2000. Its like the mazdaspeed line, bump the sales a little and then changes to a new generation. You'd feel good with the STi limited now, but in a year, things will change and you'll regret or not like it as much.

I knew this wasn't in the cards before I got my Speed 6, because to get one this year I'd have had to unload the S2000 I just got back in April. I made the decision in July to just get a Speed 6 lease instead of waiting for the 07 Limited, but I had to go see what I didn't choose, so I'm just in that drooling land. I made the assumption that since there were only gonna be 800 of these, and they'd likely be selling for close to MSRP, and be gone before 2007 even hit, so that it wasn't gonna happen. I refuse to pay near or at MSRP ever, no matter what the car, or how much I love it.

Short of an insane offer they'd give me on this car, with an insanely high trade in on my other cars, this cannot and will not happen. You can't even hesitate on this car with only 800 of them being made and serial numbered. It will be sold by this weekend. I'm just gonna have to hope the next generation STI comes in this nice looking and tame, less toyish form, and is even better then this one. I want a best of all worlds. A smoother, quieter refined, sleeper looking STI, and I hope Subaru comes through for me in 2008.

the only limited production run cars i drool over is the Spirit R RX-7. Cars that are still in the "affordable range" not exotics. I would never consider getting end of generation sales bump limited runs cars, they are not much different from the 1st year cars of that generation. I'd be getting something that is old, and then wait a year, I can get something that is totally new. If I were you and got myself into the STi already, I'd regret it when they do changes to the drivetrain. i.e. direct injection in the Subaru motors....

Well, in all fairness, this 07 Limited is A LOT different then my 04 was, and not just in looks. The interior is a lot nicer. The car also looks noticably different on the outside, and IMO is more sophisticated and stylish. It's quieter, smoother, and has more creature comforts and amenitites as well. It really felt like a very different car, except for the way it shifted. I can't even put my 04 in the same league overall, except from a pure performance standpoint.

They called and emailed and offered me the car for dealer invoice $32609, and need to see my cars for trade in appraisal and get the numbers. Now that's a good deal considering it just came out. I'm gonna ignore that email and phone call. It would be one big hassle because they'd low ball me on the trades, and the haggling would take hours and end up not working out anyway. It was fun though just tinkering with this idea.

I agree 100%. The only question is what happens next year when the new GT-R, Evo X and new STI come out? I know what you're going through. I took a huge hit trading in my '04 for an '05 but I don't regret the decision. Don't get me wrong. I miss the money but I'm not planning on retiring anytime soon. If you're digging yourself into a financial hole that will take you more than a year to climb out of then just stick w/the MS6.

Oh, this story is closed. I even got some BS remarks that I could have gotten one of these for invoice, as almost everyone is bragging about getting 500 off sticker, and most pay for MSRP. I passed up on the best deal you can possibly get at this time, but I think am MS6 and an S2000 - greater then an 07 Limited, even if it does reduce my debt.

I went back to dealership, and they were not too fond of giving me this car for invoice while having to buyout two cars in the process., but they were willing to worok with me. I never let it get far enough. Once I got a trade in assessment for my Speed 6, I suffered the wrath of the RX8, and got lowballed. That closed the door permanently, although the odds of me going through withthis were slim to none to begin with. It spelled out lowballing, to make up for their work involved.

I walked away from a fabulous car, as I had planned to do, as my haggling ability while as good as it gets, couldn't squeak me buy with anything less then a royal hit square in the behind. I still think Subaru is bluffing. 800 of these, and over half are gone already, and all will be gone by end of year. To think Subaru would sotp this Limited production for the rest of 2007, while more people want this over the regular one, while they are the same price, is something I'm not going to believe. I am hopeful that this car will go beyond 800, and Subaru is playing a game, knowing they can get near MSRP for every one of them. It was still great to get to test drive one, and that car is stunning in both looks and the way it drives. TO me it's the best STI out there PERIOD. Is a $32600 car worth unloading a beautiful powerful luxury car in the MS6, and a super fun to drive 06 S2000? No way in hell. Not even close. I'll be back to the STI, I just have to be patient.

Best Sti were the MY98 coupe and the ultimate Sti was the 22B. The new Subaru corporate look doesn't do anything for me. Guess the US missed out on these superb models as these were tiny compared to the current Impreza chassis. I like tiny "pocket rocket" cars and am not a fan of the trend in making small cars larger .

So it's gone from really ugly to almost boring? When is subi going to get a decent design team?

That's an STI that I'd consider buying...

But hey... hit the aftermarket for the MS6... pickup a CPE downpipe and intake. Get a custom cat-back (or go CPE is single is ok with you) and top it off with a new TMIC (if it wasn't leased I'd say go FMIC). Those mods alone will net you some pretty numbers. Once the Cobb AP comes out too... it'll be all good. Many people are already regularly pulling high 13's on fully stock cars... Handling... outside of the few coilover kits available... you can get a set of AutoExe springs and you can even fit a set of stock RX-8 rims on it too. With a few mods... you'll miss the STi a little bit less.

He's on a 2 or 3 year lease IIRC, so mods other than the most basic would be a little silly. Also, the AP was supposed to have been developed for so many cars now... if it isn't for a Suby I doubt you'll see it any time soon. They said there was an AP coming for the RX-8 over 3 years ago... I'd also expect they will finish up with the Evo, 350Z/G35 before even considering getting the MS6 flash to market. Hell, they still have to work on most of the '07 maps for Subys and then get the new AP for the current cars to market.

All the mods I listed are bolt-on. Easy on and easy off (well... maybe not springs). A turbo-back exhaust alone will net quite a gain... the DP alone is supposedly something like 30hp. A new TMIC... while not having as much potential as a FMIC... it'll be an easy on/off install and the (overpriced) AutoExe unit already shows a nice drop in temps by switching to a bar and plate design.

Actually they have supposedly invested the money in new hardware for Mazdas and have hired additional engineers. Check my info... I've been on this forum awhile and I've heard NOTHING about Cobb working on the RX-8 ECU until recently... and I've been in contact with other forum members who have talked to other flash tuners like Sniper and SCT as well. And anyway... recently they have said that they have completed reverse engineering of the RX-8's ECU and now it's a matter of flash hardware and building a map database. It's pretty much done. Check their forums yourself.

As for the MS6... who knows. Since it's ECU is different than the MS3 and CX-7... it could end up the red-headed stepchild... but the car is already available in numbers and even with a different ECU it's still the same engine (and word is with the delay on the next Mazda6, it'll be around for 2007 too). Considering the amount of positive press the MS3 is getting... it'd be stupid NOT to invest in the AP for it... and the motor is already showing there is MUCH power left even with just the stock IC and turbo.

As for the Evo, etc. There are competitors already in existence. From a business standpoint it's rather stupid to waste your time with them, when there is nothing available for Mazdas. Mazdasport is certainly making some money with the Int-X for the RX-8... and canzoomer probably did in the early days with the repackaged emanage. So there is money to be made with the RX-8 and as I mentioned... the MS3 would be stupid to overlook. If you're going to do the MS3, it's not going to take much more to do the CX-7 and even the MS6. With their reputation in the Subaru market and being the first mover for this type of tuniing in the Mazda market would give them another solid market... and like any smart business they want to grow. Sticking to just Subaru isn't going to do it and the Evo is only one model for Mitsubishi...
