I saw what I thought was a Shelby Cobra last week parked on the street outside a bar. I went over to get a closer look and saw a "Superformance" badge on the side of it. When I finished gawking I came home and looked up superformance on the net. I was suprised with what I saw. It is not a kit car company, and not a full production car company, but somewhere in the middle. They make a handful of different cars, delivered assembled without engine and tranny.

I saw that they also offer a Coupe 'based' on the Daytona coupe. Apparently, it was designed by superformance along with Peter Brock (built the original), Bob Negstad (one of the chasis and suspension designers for the GT40 and original S/C 427 Cobra).

I happen to think this car is pretty sweet, for about 85-90 grand complete it is a damn fast car and has mounds of style to boot. Motor trend speaks highly of it, as do other reviews.

I tell you, I would rather one of these than a viper (about the same price)

A neighbour of my parents has a superformance 427 Cobra. It is a really nice car, well built. It is an amazing red colour too, deep red pearl, beautiful.

That daytona looks pretty hot too. I think I saw some fat dude testing it on some tv show, he had a massive hard on for it. It certainly has style, I will give it that. I would probably take one over the new vipers too, of course, I don't really like there looks.

I'll second the vote for factory five...especially seeing as how their version of the Daytona is 2100 lbs. instead of 3000, and costs way way less.

I wouldn't want one for a daily driver, but maybe it would be a fun weekend car if I had another car. They use the anemic 302 + T5 combo from a Mustang to get mid/high 13's....maybe I could get the drivetrain (LS2/T56) from a wrecked GTO. 400 HP in a sub-2000 lb. car (2100 is their listed weight with the cast iron 302.)

well the ff coupe is a lot cheaper because it is a kit, i.e you have to build it. The Superformace comes fully assembled for 60 grand. Both would need an extra 15-20 for engine and trans.

The weight....I don't really know too much about the ff, but the superformace is bigger in every dimenision than the original daytona coupe. They dd this because the average guy wouldnt fit too well in the old cars. I am not sure that ff did this. Also, the weight of the Superformance includes engine and trans, not sure that ff's does. Superformance also has some creature comforts added in there.

 

the FFR cobra coupe is about 5% bigger in every dimension than the originals.

my FFR roadster weighed in at 2202lbs at impound at the national tour this year. this is a full street car with IRS, windshield, and an iron block. the superformance will be several hundred pounds heavier.

there are professional builders that can make the car to your specifications. that said, i get a lot of pleasure out of building and rebuilding my car.

with a supercharged stock small block, you are looking at power to weight ratios better than 4lbs per hp on pump gas.

those are nice, i remember the ultima was on sportcompactcar mag, some dude was trying to get mclaren F1 performance with 70k with a bmw v12 engine he bought from a crap yard, and largely succeeded, but not quite there. Btw, why are they not kit cars? Ive always looked at these cars as kit cars, just wondering.

The Ultima sources it's engines from the US, even though the company is UK based. The base engine is a big-block Chevy, Carburated, pumping 600 ponies.
