My wife's Subaru Outback VDC has the SVX drivetrain in it. Very nice engine - decent low end torque, revs good, very smooth. But yes, the four speed transmission is the weak point. It's adequate for the Outback, but it would never cut it in an enthusiast's car. Too bad - with a nice 5 speed, or a 6 speed automatic, the VDC would be pretty quick. I can appreciate why Subaru is pursuing the turbo-four thing right now, but a low-boost 3.0 (or maybe a 3.5?) coupled with a good transmission in a Legacy GT wagon would make a great (and affordable) alternative to an Audi Allroad.

I always admired the SVX. Nice looking car.

No need for 6 cylinders to do that, the new Legacy wagon will have no problem dusting off most Audis, and even recently took out a RS6 Wagon in Best Motoring. Though I wouldn't give it much of a chance on the highway :D

I would rather have a VR6 Corrado from the same time frame, but the SVX is a pretty cool car. Unique styling and I remember it as being pretty comfortable as well. My problem with the car is the same as everyone else is mentioning, no MT. Too bad, cause I wouldn't mind cruising in one.

No Corrado for me... Hate front wheel drive cars...

But it did have that trick spoiler..

The starion/conquest is a very underrated car. I think modding it gets really expensive quickly. But I guess modding anything gets expensive quickly.

the SVX kinda reminds me of the delorean. Kinda big cars, slow, and just have something about them that make them cool. I like the SVX, but if I ever drove one it would need a manual swap or something.

Yes, but the six is soooo much smoother than the 2.5. I know the new Legacy is mcuh improved, and perhaps the engines are as well, but when I drove 2.5 and 3.0 Outbacks back-to-back, the 3.0 felt like a completely different car. Much smoother an more relaxed. A low-boost turbo would make it such a sweet motor.

The boxer is certainly an aquired taste, it likes to rumble, shimy, and shake, I love it! However it's not all that uncommon to see a new WRX or Subaru owner comment about how rough their idle is on a new car, it just takes some getting used to and it's really one of the love it or hate it type things with the boxer.\

As for the SVX being slow, for it's time it was decent, but certainly not Delorean slow, and I agree about the MT. It's one of those cars that I think is neat but would probably never own.

Yup - for an Impreza, the buzz is just what the doctor ordered - part of the character. I'd expect a Legacy to be more along the lines of an RX-8 - refined performance.

I am eager to see the new car. I hope it is as good as we've been hearing.

Let me tell you brother... I have been waiting for Subaru to release the prices for it so I can calcuate weather to trade in my 8 for it or not.

I realy want a B-4 . If I can't get the actual B-4..I will take what I can get and the new Legacy is about as close as we will get right now.

The gas milage on the 8 right now is killing me..its like adding 200 extra bucks a month to my payments.. I wouldn't mind investing that into the Legacy..
