subaru makes ugly cars

Not sure I'd use the word ugly. As an Sti owner I fully admit, this car is far from sexy, and far from good looking, but ugly seems a bit harsh. I guess as a whole if I look at Subaru itself, they never have made the best looking cars, but they are improving slowly. When I parked my STi next to my rx8, and now my S2000, then yes, I suppose it is ugly both inside and out, but by itself I don't feel that way, yet I can't call this car good looking either. However, if I were going on looks I'd have never bought one to begin with. The way Subarus drive is a thing of beauty, even if they don't exactly look great just standing still. My STI reminds me of the average looking gal that's wild in bed and can rock your world, and just always looks good, as long as it's moving, and you are the one driving it.

The thing about Subarus is they aren't eye catching or sleek, they have a very purpose built and durable feel to them in just about every way. They are rarely a car that will have instant appeal but tend to get more and more attractive as you examine them and get used to them.

I claim the right to discuss the merits and demerits of Subarus and Mazdas both - I traded in a Subaru to get my Mazda.
(I also laugh in canaryrx8's general direction because my wife wants a used Aztek so we test drove one this weekend - bah, it's to be her car so I care not).

YES! An ugly car thread! Here's my list of ***-ugly cars:
2000 Tiburon with spectacles:
Couldnt find a good picture of an old Sunfire...
Is this the front or the back??
... I had to add this one in, looks like a tadpole.

Well, some people put more emphasis on looks then others. Generally those people cannot and never will appreciate a Subaru. I actually understand both sides of the coin. I can see how someone like Ike is into cars like this, and I can also see those who take one look at an STI and go OMG, that thing is hideous. I'm somewhere in between both biases. The problem lies that you have such a wonderfully car building company, yet they can't get those missing pieces of puzzle to stand out. It's like take Mazda and Subaru and combine them, and you have basically an incredible looking car with superb performance, build quality, and durability.
With that said, before Subaru builds a eye catching and sleek car (may never happen), they need to work on their paint and body. This is by far the worst car I have ever owned regarding body panel strength and paint job. So easy to dent, so easy to scratch, and easy to chip up. I predict a rust bucket with my 100% outdoor STI in about ten years or more. I guess I shouldn't let it bother me, because after all, this is an Impreza, and outside a distinct enthusiast fan base, the Sti is disposable. It's a drive it into ground and junk it car for the most part, and will become a car youngsters buy to beef up and race. I just wish they'd put more time and effort into the STI with their paint jobs, and make it above the base economy Impreza in that regard.
