Stock supercharged cars - Ability to mod?

I was just taking a look at the new audi S4 which uses a supercharger and realized that I honestly know very little about how much can be done using a stock supercharger. I know with the old B5 S4s (when they used a 6 cylinder biturbo) there was a lot of room to grow, but how much room is there with superchargers? I'm guessing they aren't pushing the limits with it in it's stock form, but some reason I'd think they wouldn't be as easy as turbos to work with. I'm sure I'm wrong or slightly off, but curious since there seem to be a lot less cars that come stock with superchargers.

in most cases any stock factory FI cars have much higher modding potential than NA cars.

+1. My cousins friend shop "RACERS EDGE TUNING in Long Beach CA." specializes in MUSTANGS....so one day comes in a GT500....FORD Claims 500Hp... which after a dyno run was false....
435rwhp/422rwtq where the actual numbers... after changing pulleys, and a tune... the rwhp went up to 500hp....a huge gain...i wish our speedometer kept going like this one...

you do realize that they claim 500hp at the flywheel right?

lets calculate approximate drivetrain loss.
500hp*.15=75. 500-75= 425whp.

at 435whp, it looks like ford actually under rated the horsepower a tad.

^thats exactly what the shop said about the stock GT500 (the formula of the hp due to drivetrain loss)... but after said parts... the rwhp was about 500 rwhp...

He had asked me whats the HP on the rotary... I told him MAZDA claims 220hp so then he used that same formula and came to tell me its probably about 160-170 at the wheels...but then he continued to say "and its AT so its probably about 140-150 hp.... I loled... because its true..

220? The AT is said to be 212 and the MT is said to be 232 by mazda. Your car is winning blue, correct? If that's the case, then mazda rated your car at 192 I believe. Mind you, none of those numbers are accurate, but never heard 220 before.

Thanks for the info. Hadn't ever really though about a stock supercharger so I didn't really know what kind of potential you had to work with on them.

oops, typo.

I don't know that I have too much of a bias but I think it would just come down to the car really... I'm interested in seeing how the new S4 will compare to the old B5 S4. It has more displacement but I'm wondering if it will get power as easily as the B5 did. It has more power stock so it looks fairly promising. I'm guessing the handling has improved as well.

Like the Grand Prix 3.8L factory supercharged 240hp mentioned above, I met a guy named Steve when I used to frequent Atco Raceway in NJ. He was rolling a 4 door Buick lthat looked like Granny's with the GM pushrod 3.8L SC. He said he did no internal mods just installed a smaller pulley, injectors, exhaust, intake, and some sort of laptop ECU software, and a shift kit for his auto and laid down consistent 11.8-9s with slicks on the front, made me sick but he was a good dude and we always hung out and bullshitted friday nights.

turbo>SC >

but in all honesty modding a supercharger is easy, just put a new pulley on it and bam instant power across the band.

Well, I knew that was possible but I didn't know how much room you had to work with in there stock form. I guess it would be normal for a car company to not push it to its limits in stock form.
