Some ppl think this will be next Nissan s16

found this article . Even though its just rumor thougth it was a good read. But a awd Silvia meh totemo sayaku desu yo, nissan nani kangeteruno ? any how just speculation but good read.

Last year Nissan Motor Co. mentioned the possible revival of the Nissan Silvia, also at this years Detroit Motor Show in the USA we saw the Nissan ‘Azeal' concept, further hinting at a small 2-door sports coupe to once again grace the showroom floors. It's not hard to see that Nissan are serious about a smaller 2-door sports coupe.

Under Nissan's ‘Value Up' plan, we've seen repeatedly the North American influence on Nissan's designs, and this is true of the Azeal and of the ‘Sports Compact' concept at this year's New York Motor Show. But where the Azeal was FF (front wheel drive), the next Silvia is rumored to be 4WD. It may come as a surprise as to why Nissan would choose a 4WD platform to replace the RWD S-series Silvia's which are immensely popular amongst the younger car enthusiasts, who use these cars extensively for ‘drifting', which is experiencing a worldwide boom right now.

At the Detroit Show in January this year, the Azeal concept showed up with a 2.4L 4 cylinder turbo engine with a sporty 2-door coupe body obviously based on the ‘LaFesta' chassis, which gave it dimensions which were a little bigger than the Nissan Tiida compact car. Development of the Azeal was stopped, but it showed that a replacement for the Silvia is probably going to be a reality – a new 4 cylinder sports coupe that will possibly be bigger and heavier than the Azeal Concept. The information leaked directly from Nissan R+D was that a 4WD 2 -3 liter sports coupe was being developed, which at first we thought was a 4WD Skyline, but the dimentions quoted were too small so it had to be Azeal/Silvia.

At the New York Show, the Tiida 2-door concept, the ‘Sports Concept' had a new 4WD system which will be used for the next Silvia, but the Sports Concept didn't get as much attention as Nissan hoped so this leads us to conclude that the Sports Concept 4WD system is in fact the system that will be used for the Silvia. The Silvia replacement will be bigger than the Azeal concept, and seeing as Nissan only has two sports cars in it's current line up (Skyline and Fairlady Z), they need a new 4 cylinder sports car.

The Nissan March got an upgrade with a new 1.6L motor, and the Skyline Series 2 face lift attempted to make the V35 sportier, so Nissan is inclined to build even more sports orientated cars in the future, to go against the general publics ill-feeling towards Nissan's designs since Renault took part ownership. The Nissan 240SX was popular in the USA while it was on sale there (and has regained popularity due to the D1 Drifting events held in California) and the 240SX name could very well be revived to cash in on Nissan's increasing cult status there. But FR platforms are very costly to develop and build so in order to maintain driver satisfaction, a front wheel drive based 4WD platform is the best compromise to keep costs down and ensure the all important driver satisfaction… even though most buyers will want a rear wheel drive platform. I guess you could say that the new Silvia is ‘name only', and that it will have more in common with upcoming Honda Civic SR coupe concept than Silvia's of old.

Nissan also feel justified in developing a 4 cylinder 4WD turbo as the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution and Subaru Impreza STi are very popular among young Americans, so Nissan want to push more into this market. Needless to say the next Silvia will also be sold in Japan, where Nissan's profile is still high due to Carlos Ghson, so to further increase Nissan's already high profile revival of the Silvia is near the top of the agenda… just after the Nissan/Infiniti GT-R.

I think it looks pretty good and the fact that its made to truly be sport and has a turbo is good. I dont know about a true s16 because its not rwd but if its awd thats pretty cool.

yah when i read this i decided to go off on nissan "But a awd Silvia meh totemo sayaku desu yo, nissan nani kangeteruno ?" because silvia and 180sx is rwd why mess up tradtion.

but then think it can be higher version of of siliva like gt-r is to skyline. since gt-s and gt are just rwd wtih turbo in skyline. But if they do make awd silvia, make it like they do with Skyline. Make 3 or 2 other types of silvia , one with awd and one wiht out. and please dotn make it FF lol. .

Traction isnt everything when it comes to sports cars. you also gotta think about handling (especially for the silvia's). AWD's tend to understeer (which is a pain in the *** to correct). im sure nissan is going to keep the silvia RWD only... lol.. its been like that for 2 decades.

^ +1 Fo Sheezy! I don't see any reason they would change to AWD.. that would be a stupid move IMO

True but Skyline from 60- late 80's was rwd, First awd GT-r was the R32. so using comment that silvia past 2 decades is rwd, well it can change.

It s like saying rx 7 since 1985 had option for turbo, so i dont see rx8 being non turbo. i dont think mazda will avoid putting a turbo in the rx 8. well guess what they did lol.

like i said in japanese , i dotn know what Nissan is thinking and tat awd silvia will suck due to tradtion.

that is what alot of my friends said when the skyline r32 came out. i know my uncle on my mom side was very pissed. he owns a nissan tuning shop in okinawa. and he did not understand why they was going that route. but now we know why but back then it was stupid idea to alot of ppl.

so i can see a silvia being awd , but if they doi hope they make a rwd version like they do for skylines.

Japan got a turbo 12A FB for 84 and 85 as the top of the line while we got the 13B fuel injected GSL-SE.

All FC's in Japan were turbos. It was an option elsewhere.
