The new MX-5 starts at $20,995.00 which is about $1000 more than the Solstice and that is definitely better equipped. It's even cheaper than the outgoing model.
Quite a value. I drove one of the new MX-5s last week. Very nice, good torque, great handling and absorbs the bumps as if they weren't there. My only real complaint was tire to wheelwell clearance.

First the base MX-5 doesnt come with anything special ie: no A/C, no keyless remote, basic stereo, no cruise control, no alamr etc etc. And it has a 5-speed. And the price difference is only $1k for the starters. The base cars are pretty similar, I have not driven either but I bet a comparison will show up soon in a car mag.

They even have people tracking their VIN numbers for the preorders. Looks like the first several thousand of these cars are spoken for. They look slick but still I love my RX-8.
WOW that is a lot of old white people (mostly males)

if I had to drive a Solstice I would tear that front bumper off within 5mins, have you guys seen it in person? f-ing ugly! Then i'd gut the suspension and engine......lighten the car (it needs it!)...then most importantly drive it into a lake and collect insurance and buy a miata :D

Zoom,
They are at a few dealers already. My local one, Jim Ellis Mazda of Atlanta, got 4 of them a week ago.
By the way the Solstice at it's base price is really bare. No AC, no radio, no power windows. My money is behind the Miata especially since I think I'll be one of the first to renesise one. (I hope nobody steals my freshly coined term).
Paul.
