Skyscraper Melts A Jaguar

A new London skyscraper dubbed the "Walkie Talkie" has been blamed for reflecting light which melted parts of a car parked on a nearby street.
Martin Lindsay parked his Jaguar on Eastcheap, in the City of London, on Thursday afternoon.

Fans of the show "Mythbusters" will remember the episode called "Archimedes Death Ray" inwhich they couldn't replicate and called "Busted".
In the Second Article, it states the same thing happened in Las Vegas, 3 yrs ago.

I remember that episode. Wasn't the main reason it was called busted is because they were limited to technology and manufacturing processes of the time of Archimedes? I think I remember their " death ray" being made of polished bronze.

Yes and the fact that in order for it to actually do any kind of damage they would have to sit there for hours holding it on one spot. So it makes sense that this could happen to a car which was parked for 2 hours with more reflective materials used on the building than mythbusters used.
