Should Mazda put the Furai into production?

And turn it into a halo car like Nissan GTR and Lexus LF-A? Just stick a 26B motor in there and we are all set.

Well Im sure that the Three Rotor Renesis is more than enough with the 500hp N/A. But there is no way it's going to go into production. All Carbon Fiber Body, you know how expensive thats going to be? But the answer to whether it will ever become a production car is "NO", if they are soon to discontinue (from what is heard) the RX- family in 2011 for a while until they get the 16x right... what makes you think they would put Such a High Cost Rotary Car on the Market like the Furai?

I mean do a limited production run of a detuned and more street friendly version of the Furai at $200-300k a pop with parts borrowed from the 787B to fill the time gap between the 8 and 16x? If Lexus can sell 500 LF-A at near $400k in a hurry, I don't see why Mazda will have a problem selling the Furai on a limited production basis.

Its really not a bad idea. Make 500 units, sell them very close to total manufacturing cost of car. It wouldnt be to make money, more of a look what we can do kind of thing. But 3 rotor is definitely more than enough to handle Godzilla

If they did do it, it will definitely be a footprint on the moon. But then again who will buy a Rotary Supercar? Besides Jay Leno, and Jerry Seinfield?

Why don't they just make production 787Bs?

Nobody will be able to handle a street driven 787b, besides myself. And the 787b would put Ferrari outta the market

It's probably not viable from a business standpoint. It's built off of one of the old ALMS racers they put out, the Courage perhaps (but don't quote me on that) and those cars cost several million each. I think for them to field a streetable version with the capabilities and creature comforts that a successful supercar requires would be extremely difficult and far more expensive than we're estimating here. Besides, I heard the prototype's been disassembled anyway.

That's not to say I wouldn't kill for one.

Would I like to see it? Yes. Should they? No. It'd be cool and make a good image but considering how much it would take to actually make something like that a reality would make it not worth it. They'd have to change quite a bit before they'd reasonably put it on the streets.

No they shouldn't build it. It's a full on race car. I rarely see anyone on the streets that can drive a normal street car properly anyways. This car is less practical than any supercar. It is cool looking but at the end of the day that's it. It's too slow to be a competitive race car and to harsh to be anything else. It fits in nowhere well other than being a good looking pr machine. An engine that only gets 8 mpg wouldn't sell no matter how fast the car is.

I said no, but only based on the OP's poll description. I think that it would be so expensive for Mazda and would most likely net so little profit it would hurt rotary development right now.

I just think there won't be enough demand to justify it.

Consider the FD. it seems to me the FD came after a slow progression of rotary technologies and cars. Think of how long it took to build consumer confidence and appeal before they unleashed a high priced high performance sports car?

The Rx-8 was like starting over again. It attracted a few new buyers, but has mostly been a car for enthusiast. There just isn't enough fan base right now to make any money selling an even more 'enthusiast oriented' vehicle.

IMO

I think it would be a great idea IF they did extensive modification to the Furai. Instead of making it a race car ready for the street, why not make it a street car that looks the same as the Furai. That is, if Mazda's current economic standpoint allows.

Built on an extended reinforced RX8 chassis, much like how the GTR is based on the FM platform.
Triple rotor!
Body perhaps made entirely out of aluminium? Save weight, lower cost than CF

Make it a limited production run too, slot it somewhere between the GTR and the LFA.

Although it may be the best looking of the Nagare Flow themed Mazda concepts, it's still a bit weak in the looks department to me. Nothing they've done recently makes me think 'Classic' or 'Timeless' masterpiece. The RX792P is much more attractive. Too many edges kill longevity in terms of peoples appreciation (In my opinion of course).

A Mazda rotary supercar would be nice but the time is clearly not right for it. Mazda and McLaren should get together and produce a side port 4 rotor 4 seat exotic. That's my vote for 2018 . Oh, and while I'm critiscizing; bring back Wu-Huang Chin, please
