Oh Please don't say that! ...
I don't think it looks anything like the RX-8 but on that note it did remind me about one of the reasons I bought the 8.
I have driven 2 SC Saturn Coupes, had my mom buy one and my wife bought a new ION. Nothing but love for those cars, but all I ever wanted was the 2001 SC2 with more HP, 2 suicide doors, better interior, and a faster looking design with more aftermarket support. Instead good ole' Saturn decided to kill the car by turing it into the ION.
I would like to personally thank Mazda for doing a good job and making the car I was dreaming about a reality, and throwing in a Wankel engine to boot!
However, that curve is ugly. The Skye from last year was much cooler though a different type of car.

I know it's hard to agree when someone says an ugly car looks like one you love, but come on. The steep fender curves, the lower rear bumper.....the RX8 hints are there and obvious.

I would have to look at specific things like the cockpit shape which is very different and the hood/nose of the car looks too much different. There are many cars that have steep fender curves etc ... course like you said it's all very subjective
If anything I'd say I could see the Solstice being hidden somewhere under that monstrocity, and considering those are both built on the same platform I probably wouldn't be too far off, but Solstice by far looks better.

I'd rather have the Chevy Nomad but rumor has it that won't be built.
The Curve is based on Kappa: GM's new inexpensive RWD platform. It has balanced weight distribution, good power and torque output, and will reportedly start under $20k. However, we still don't know many important details: How much will it weigh? Is the steering responsive? How's the short-throw? How stiff is the chassis? Does it have a low yaw-moment? What's the fuel economy? Is throttle response instantaneous? etc...
I'm a big fan of the rotary and of sports cars. I've driven the RX-8... it's incredibly balanced; it certainly doesn't feel like a 3000+ pound vehicle. However, its poor fuel economy prevents me from buying it. I doubt the Curve will be as much of a sports car as the RX-8, but IMHO it looks promising as a more efficient and less-expensive alternative.

Nomad looks like an old vette in the front end. I like it.
An for the Ion....UGLY p.o.s. and it seems that Car and Driver thinks so to after reading their reviews. (Sorry to any Ion owners, but I did love the looks of the SC right before they switched to the Ion coupe.)

Yes, that's also the first thing I thought when I saw the pics from the Detroit Auto Show!
Count me as one of those that loves the "look!" Two of my favorite cars are the RX-8 and the (first generation) Ford Probe!
:D
I just wish it wasn't a GM product, but talk to me later, if the car actually makes it into production ... I might buy it if it's well built and drive great... and is a true 2+2 fastback and stays a hatchback

Front fender completely ripped off. The roof just looks horrible and the back, uh the back is completely out of proportion w/ the rest of the car, except for mayb the roof. It is in proportion w/ the roof which is also out of proportion compared 2 everything else in the car. I think this is something made to compete more w/ the miata and mr2. It will attempt 2 add a back seat to them, kinda like the rx8 added a back seat to an S2000.
rx8-s2000
The rx8 is NOT a ripoff or imitation, rx8 has very different styling IMO, has a rotary, good mod results from basic stuff, and has a back seat. But look at the HP figures-almost identical, weight is just 200lb apart, like the only 2 cars w/ a 9k redline. Oh yeah they both cost around the same amount fully loaded. They also are both excellent cars and fun 2 drive, and *true* sports cars (sorry 2 bring this up) unlike the econoboxes w/ turbos (wrx and evo).
