Unhappy Sad car is sad

Supposedly in the NYC area, owned by a guy that refuses to part with it. Note the steering wheel.

Probably his first car. If I had that for a first ride I would have a very difficult time letting go.

One of the FB comments: "that's in NY.. I think it's my ex bosses car. he was a mazda service manager in the 70s and always told me about this cosmo he had sitting. he wouldn't sell me the car, but showed me pics and it was in that same yard. it didn't have all that rust then, but this was back when I was in high school.. I'm gonna go by his gas station today and investigate further.."

The FB discussion is also getting people commenting that this may be several years old, and it may have already been recovered and under restoration in AZ...

I just have a hard time understanding the "I wont part with it but I'm going to let it sit there like it's a piece of crap" concept. I can't see how someone cares about it enough to refuse to let it go to a reasonable offer but wont keep up with it.

Is it too much to put a vapor barrier car cover on it, that would also keep the chemicals in rain and corrosive road and parking lot salt from being sprayed all over the exterior by snow plows?

There are two FD's by me, that just sit under a car tarp.

Both are in perfect condition, one the guy that own's is a total douche and only says "The car is puuuurfect, I will let it rot."

The second FD sits abandoned, it hasn't run in 9+ years and the paint is faded, but the interior is in amazing shape. Both cars have less than 20k miles.

If only I had a way to transport the second. Where I live, no one understands the value of that TT FD.

Atleast sentimental value to me..

No idea. Not even sure how old the pic is. There is some small reason to believe that the pic is a couple years old and has since been recovered for restoration in AZ.

Records show only two 1967 Cosmos were exported to the United States,
...
Only 1,519 models were ever built of the Cosmo Series II, and only six were ever imported to the U.S.
Jay Leno owns a 1970 Series II Cosmo, and it was featured on the Speed Channel series 'My Classic Car' in March of 2006. This vehicle is believed to be the only remaining Series II Cosmo in the U.S.
that info is out of date AND incorrect. Jay Leno owns one but its not the only one. There are 5 accounted for in the US. Jay's, Mazda NAO, Glenn's, The guy from Oregon who showed up at seven stock two years ago and .... MazMart... no I think they HAD one. SpeedSource has one. Mazda Canada has one as well.

AND.... Glenn may have another one in AZ for restoration and that is possibly the one that Mazda Mexico had .
