Even further, you would let the average moron who fouls the internet car forums and knows next to nothing about real cars (read Honda riceboy) influence your opinion?

Miatas carry on and resurrected the rich tradition of small roadsters - following Triumph, MG, Lotus, Fiat, Alfa Romeo. The Z3/Z4, S2K, MR2, Boxster, all owe their existence to Mazda's daring in introducing a roadster when everyone else assumed the market had died. Miatas became famous for their precise, nimble handling and sports car attributes, and for 15 years have dominated autocross competitions and SCCA track events because of their performance. Spec Miata is the fastest growing racing class in the US, bar none, because of the affordable cost and the tremendous amount of fun and learning the class provides. Note, none of those have anything to do with the slurs of an idiot screenwriter about the sexual preferences of a driver. A Miata is one of the most fun vehicles you could ever hope to drive, period. Even better - girls love them (which is one of the primary reasons why non-Miata drivers like to make slurs about them, because their girlfriends are always drooling about them and they're threatened).

For your gross assumption and admitted stupidity, you are sentenced to attend a meeting of the Calgary Miata club. preferably one of our track day events, and after you get soundly beaten on the track, you'll maybe be able to beg a ride or even a drive and find for yourself what a great car a Miata is (and what great people Miata owners are).

Oh, and go read some road tests from magazines the actually know about cars, not lame sport compact magazines. Find the road tests from the past 15 years from Road & Track, Car and Driver, EVO, Car, Automobile, Sports Car International, and see what they have had to say consistently about Miata - the best affordable small sports car in the world. Widen your horizons, don't settle for letting yourself appear to be so ignorant and uninformed.

Regards,
Gordon
WOW! you tell 'em Gordon! I guess I am too bi for owning both a Miata and an 8...

Still have my Miata......bought it used and added the steroids. Greddy turbo, running 12psi along with full suspension. Probably the closest thing to a Ferrari this side of $50,000....I feel like I'm wearing the car when I drive it. I'm thinking of trading it in though....I now have kids and need the extra seats. Don't wanna give up the the sports car feeling, so it's between the 8 and the G35 coupe.

I also own a 99 10ae flying miata turbo (240rwhp) and just bought a 05 8,each have there plus and minus points. What do you want from them? For me the miata will go when I move to my new house that has a garage then I can add another cycle, cbr 1000.I rather ride my VFR then either the above cars,so the 8 works for a trip, bad weather beater then the miata. So the miata will give way to the cbr soon.

That's perfectly fine. People are entitled to have their own opinions on these things. It's part of being an American (or wherever you are from). For example, I think Hundai's look like poo. Though I love how the 8 looks. It's sexy, manly, and aggressive. I think it looks better than any other car out there. People should love this car's looks. It'll win hands down. Anyone who thinks this car is ugly or gay should be shot. It's my right as an American to carry firearms. And it's my right to shoot these people. Damn, I have work to do... Hmmm, where the hell did I put my shotgun?

The Miata has a huge weight advantage over the 8, and is more nimble even though the 8 has a stiffer chassis and superior suspension setup. The next generation Miata (due this Fall) will be based on the RX8 platform. Won't have the RENESIS unfortunately, but will inherit some of the RX8's other advantages. Some images:

However...I'm enjoying the power of the RX8 - it's like the power increases as speed does, like a jet

The RX8 tends to be more exotic-looking. Where my miata was 'cool lookin', the RX8 is more upscale.

I'd buy a new miata, but never the Mazdaspeed version. 150-160whp? Naw...

If you want a Miata with 150whp, buy a 1.6L Miata for $2500, then $1000 on a GReddy turbo.

If you want a 240whp Miata, buy a new, non MS version...spend $5,000 at FlyinMiata.com

NomisR is right on target with regard to safety - the best way to survive an accident is to avoid one.

Also, the Miata's great if you do most of your driving in town and, of course, on twisty back roads; I'm sure the RX-8 is more fun—and less punishing—roaming the interstates at speeds over 75. (Miatas will do interstates at high speeds, but they don't especially like it, and you probably won't either.)

Haha, that genuinely made me laugh out loud, seeing as that's one of the most absurd movies I think I've ever seen. Moore should just resign himself to being a comedian rather than further disgracing the documentary genre with his asinine commentary on what's wrong with America.

Anyway, Miatas (particularly the Mazdaspeed variety) are amazing. Aside from the lack of space, I really don't think I can complain about anything with that little street legal go-kart. The handling really astounded me with how sharp it cornered, and even though it might be able to use more power, when have you ever driven a little 4 cylinder car and thought to yourself, "You know, this doesn't need any more power." I really like the 8 for being able to come VERY close to the feeling of driving the Miata while providing quite possibly the coolest feeling powerband in the world and the 4 seats I need to haul friends around.

Now, I know this is a vast generalization, but after watching "Farenheit 9/11" that's all I can think about when I hear a dude voted for Bush. And from reading other forums where people compared the candidates, it seems as if I'm not the only one who thinks about this.

What planet are you from?! Your comment is, without a doubt, the most moronic thing I've read in the last two weeks. I'm on my third Miata and I happen to be heterosexual. Gee, I must be the exception. But what's really amazing is your assumption that being gay is something so terrible that it requires "apologies in advance". You, sir, are a moron.
But miatas are fruit-loooped to non-mazda owners(The fact's don't lie)

Hmmm... Gay..Well yeah I guess. I've never had another car that brought a bigger grin to my faces, so ya my car makes me gay. Anyways, having both an 8 and a kick *** miata (which has never been called gay by anyone within the know), I would not hesitate to take on an 8. On a track, I would hand them their ***-oops I guess I am gay! Rolling eyes...

Dumb quotes like these never gets old.

Between the 2 I'd pick the RX8 since I need the space, though the Miata is a great car that's still good value for everyday pleasure driving.

Despite your earlier political comment, which it appears you wisely deleted, this is a very intelligent comparison of the most important differences between the two cars. I traded my 2001 Miata for a 2004 RX-8. While I enjoyed both immensely, driving 50 interstate miles per day in the Miata was sometimes grueling, unless it was a nice summer/autumn evening around sunset. And when taking a long trip, the backroads were much more enjoyable than the interstate. Around town, the Miata was more fun to me.

The RX-8, on the other hand, was a joy on the highway, especially at extraordinary speed. The Miata I never liked to drive much above 80, but the 8 was very comfortable even at 120 (no flaming please).

If I was getting one of the two at this point, I would choose the Miata, but for a primary car, the space and speed limitations were a bit inconvenient. They are both excellent cars, for what they are.

In fact, my "political" comment was an almost word-for-word parody of a previous poster's comment regarding how Miata's are perceived. I made it in an attempt to demonstrate the ridiculousness of said comment. Unfortunately my attempt at irony failed—no one "got" the parody; it was taken literally, as a "political" comment. Hence the deletion.

No problem, thanks. Truth is, I've been flirting with the idea of an RX-8 myself. Wish I could have both but, living in NYC, I'm lucky to even have one.

KHTM-

I guess your prolific writing style and ease of becoming influenced (a movie - jeez) have effectively categorized many of us as gay for having owned a miata. Do a little looking around next time you're out and count the number of men driving miatas vs. women. While I've seen some demographic profiles that show the number of men to slightly outnumber women in miatas, it seems that I see 1 woman to every 8 men around here. They are fun, spirited little cars that accelerate in a fun manner, handle like crazy, and give you the option of a lot of wind in the hair in the process. I'm not really sure how that makes you gay instead of one who appreciates driving.

Maybe you should go over to the Dodge Truck forum where you and the real men (and women who wish they were men) can chat.

Oh, I don't think he is secure enough in his masculinity to be seen in a truck like that. Wouldn't want anybody to suspect he was gay. Along with flannel shirts and hiking boots.....

he needs one of these.
