My friend has an 8, I think its a great car too. I can't imagine anyone not being happy with one. It all comes down to your personal taste. Unless you start liking the crossfire, then I'd be worried.

Hello,
Guess I won't convince a lot of you...nor could I hope to accomplish such a thing...nor would I want to.
As one of only 4 (5 depends on who is counting) GTO's in Germany...I sure love my anonimity.
I bought my GTO Back in February and finally received my car in July. I've put on 9,000 miles since then (that's with 1 month of down time due to an unfortunate lesson in RWD tailspin). God I love this car.
I never considered the RX8 so for you guys that never even considered the GTO...I guess we're about on opposite ends of the spectrum.
I love being damn near the fastest car on the Autobahn. Porsches are rare...even over here and especially in the winter. BMW's only the M3's are my equal. All the other cars on the road are primarily A4 / A6's and 330's and what not...occasionally a 350z that I have no problems with.
The GTO is big. It is heavy. These are indisputable facts. If you are looking for something a bit more light on its feet then by all means order your RX8. I think the comments that I have read on page 5 and 6 have been pretty level headed and very true. I commend you guys for not stereotyping and making baseless ignorant comments like I have seen elsewhere.
I will say to the poster that said that Pontiac put their pawprints all over this vehicle...that he might want to relook his comments. I count only 2 pontiac badges on my 2004 and no "Pontiac" written anywhere. Now, in 2005 they do get a "Pontiac" badge. (It's ugly IMHO)....then again the 2005 get's 6.0L of LS2 400hp goodness.
I like my GTO and with some tweaking it will do just fine getting down the road. Hell might even make a run up to England and upgrade the HVAC controls...who knows.
Sorry probably won't check back in the thread but if anyone wants to chit chat hit me up on AIM. Yall seem pretty levelheaded.
thanks for bearing with me.

Ryan thanks for your input!
I think the GTO is a hell of a car, comfortable, fast, GREAT REAR SEATS, easy to upgrade or mod....it's looks and weight are it's biggest problem.
If they could make the next one weigh 3400....the GTO will be a HELL OF A CAR, well...if they can make it cheaper too.

Well, Both cars would be really fun to drive. but if i were you and i seriously had those 2 cars in mind. i would wait a bit longer for the mazdaspeed 8 and the new gto. but if you cant wait then i would take the 8 because taking 300+ pounds off a car is really dam hard and will cost alot of money. but like i said, if it were me, id wait a bit longer.
your gonna have a mean machine on your hands no matter what car you choose

YUP! Since the 8 is fast enough for me already (and I have no patients...LOL) I'm hopeing to get an 8 in the comming days to months. Also, it would be the first car that I mod so I'm looking forward to messing with it...dressing it up and making it GO FASTER!
To tell you the truth I'm really happy about the auto industry right now, they have given us:
Nissan 350Z (legend but newly raised from the dead)
Suby WRX Sti
Mitsu EVO
Pontiac GTO (legend but newly raised from the dead)
05 Mustang GT (legend but still around)
Scion tC (yes I"ll put it in the list cause it's a nice looking inside and out)
Honda S200 (legend)
Chevy Vette (legend but still around)
Infinity G35
Who is missing from the party and is highly missed:
Chevy Z28 "Remember the IROC & SS"
The Cuda
The RX8...THANK YOU MAZDA!
