Exclamation rx8 vs. gti

i hear a lot of cool things about the gti...and my sister has the rx8 and i love it! But from what i hear...the gti sounds pretty cool also...high torque at low rpm's and good gas mileage. I'm looking to buy a car in a month or so...and im gonna choose between the rx or the gti...any opinions?? I CANT CHOOSE!

If you want " high torque at low rpm's" get a Mustang or GTO.

No matter how fast you think you can make a GTI, it will always get owned by a Mustang or GTO and for alot less.

would it bother you to have the same car as your sister?

i say test drive both a couple times. it's all about what you want.

I had an '02 GTI (1.8 Turbo) and loved it. Much better torque than the 8, which was great for zipping thru traffic around town. The GTI loved cruising down the interstate for hours at a time at 75-80 mph. And it gets better fuel economy—I got around 24-28 mpg in the GTI, only 17-22 in the 8. So—longer range between fill-ups with the VW.

The GTI was fun to drive, but the 8 is more involving for the driver; more responsive, more agile, lighter on its feet. You sit high up in the GTI, surrounded by large windows with lots of light coming in. You sit much lower in the 8, more like a traditional sports car. And, with its little windows, the 8 is darker and more confined inside. I love the blue & red dash lights in the VW, and the overall high quality of the interior—nice plastics and good fit & finish. The GTI felt very solid and substantial—the opposite of cheap and flimsy. And the hatchback was very useful, swallowing pretty much anything I needed to haul.

Test drive both. Tell each dealer you have it narrowed down to both cars, and take each one out for a nice, long test drive. Then you'll know.

Good luck!

I own both a 04 RX-8 and a 06 VW GTI. I love them both for what they are. My RX-8 is pretty much stock, and the GTI has stage 2 APR kit, and Eibach Pro-Kit coilovers. The GTI I pretty much use for work because I drive alot, and it gets great gas milage, plus I can throw a whole buch of equipment in the trunk with the seats folded down. I only decided to get the GTI after my RX-8 was paid off.

A quick pic of the GTI.

If I ever own another VW, it will be a Phaeton W12 (as if...) or a R32.

However, I will probably only have a few hours with it as I have left strict, written instructions telling my wife to shoot me if I come home owning a VW.

It gets better MPG & is newer (ie won't be redesigned anytime soon). It's also cheaper (base price). It's just as fast & handles as well (that's a big compliment, the RX-8 has excellent handling) but the RX-8 has better brakes. Ride/noise/seat comfort are on par w/ the RX-8.

The main thing stopping me is I'm still undecided over the hatchback look (RX-8 looks much nicer IMO).

I think your decision should be between an RX-8 and a Mazdaspeed 3. Speed 3's are 10 times better than the GTI in my book. I'm sure you'll see lots of articles online comparing the GTI and Speed 3. I haven't seen the GTI win one yet.

The 8 is a better car than either of those in my book, but I'm biased. So test drive all three and decide.

Get the GTI, just because I hope you don't pick the 8 buddy. I don't want to see you get shot down in flames when you come back here asking what exhaust would be best for your car.....and you will.

last year i was car shopping and test drove an 06 gti. It was too floaty for me, good pickup but the suspension was a tad too soft for me.

tried an 06 cooper s and it brought a smile to my face. hugged a corner like a champ and pulled really well.

then i test drove an 06 rx8. wasn't surprised with the lack of torque on the highway, but it attacked a corner like a roller coaster ride.

rwd and sexiness won out.

I got a friend with a new GTI and stock for stock there pretty even, then he dropped like less than 1k on it and it's ***** fast, there good cars but at the end of the day do you really want to be rolling around in a WWD car. "Wrong wheel drive"

The GTI handles like a wet noodle. Zero steering feel, zero road feel, the suspension was completely undersprung. Why anyone would buy this over a MINI or RSX is beyond me.

Is it just me or are these "tell me which car I should get or which one is better" threads ridiculous...

Guys, I can't decide between the F430 and the Murcielago...which one should I get?

Dude, go drive them and decide which one YOU like best...

juss like everyone is saying, the new gti is faster in the straight. as for handling, 8 wins hands down.

i'll tell you something about my experience with gti. My friend only has a reflash and intake while i have pulley, flywheel, intake, catless midpipe, exhaust, clutch, short shifter. we ran the quarter mile and he beat me by about 1/4 of a car length. I was suprised how fast it is in the staright. but in the curves, i'll leave it in the dust.

juss your pick whether you want a drag or track car.
