RX8 vs. 1991 BMW 318iS
I put the 8 and the 318iS (aka the TOY) in a head-to-head...
The 8 was much faster off the line, even when I had the TOY's little four-banger screaming. Braking in the 8 was vastly superior.
Cornering, I preferred the 8, except on those occasions when I got to watch the TOY's back end pass me in the other lane. I always waved politely.
For interior styling, it was a coin toss... the 8 certainly has the edge on the modern "cockpit" look, but there's just something about the Pope-Mobile feel of all that glass in the TOY.
Exterior styling... Who could argue with the classic "push a brick through the breeze" styling of the e30 Bimmers? Then again, I still get asked questions about the 8 everytime I gas up (which is often.)
Of course, living in the South, they usually start with a guy in overalls, hands on hips, who whistles and then says "Dayumm...."
So for anybody who is struggling with that decision between a 2004 RX-8 and a 1991 BMW 318iS, consider this the definitive comparable review.
