RX8 motorcycle?

Has anyone heard anything about putting the new RX8 rotory engine in a motorcycle? Boss Hoss has successfully put a V8 in their motorcycle. Dodge has the V10 Tomahawk which has the viper engine. Wouldn't that be a great idea.

I've always wanted to build a "rotorcycle". It wouldn't be very hard. Just time consuming.

If I recall, a company called NSU once made rotary powered motorcycles.

Here is a link talking about previous motorcycles.

There are more, just do a search for them.

I know there have been rotary engined motorcycles before but I've always wanted to see a 13B adapted to one. Forget those old little wimpy ones. Give me a turbo ported rotary bike! Too bad a 5 gallon fuel tank would barely get you around the block.

Perhaps the rotary's engine heat in such close proximity to the fuel tank wouldn't be a good idea. I think the rider's body in general would suffer from being in such close proximity to a running engine of that type.

Norton had a rotary commander, 600cc, performed quite well and competed in the 750cc superbike series.

They are certainly cool bikes. I especially like the Norton. Unfortunately I think you would cook yourself riding one and also get rather bad gas mileage compared to the piston bikes.

RE5 Rotary Bike on E-Bay

It may not run, but it looks ok...

The Suzuki RE5 on e-bay is the first rotary bikes I have seen there in a long long time.

By the way, I'm pretty sure that the rotary runs cooler than a comparable piston engine, so proximity to the fuel tank wouldn't be a problem. Remember that Mazda mentioned that one of the reasons they might not make a turbo RX-8 was because the exhaust gasses didn't run hot enough (although my memory could be decieving me).

funny because i was just thinking about this this morning on my way to University of central florida. going into school saw a bike and thought... hmmm.... maybe... it would be light. these engines are already powerful and light and compact. you can fit a rotory on a bike and make it faster and lighter than other bikes... plus think of the sound it would make!!!

edit... by the way.. no heatsoak issues either

That museum has everything except a rotary weed eater. A lot of those bikes were ancient, no telling what is possible now. I'm for a weed eater though hehee.

This thread was over 2 years old! I saw that at Sevenstock. They had never ridden it at the time of that picture. I'd be very concerned about leg burns.

It doesn't look very practical, does it?
