Photo of new STI
I searched and didn't see this posted yet... my new issue of Autoweek came in the mail and there was a photo of the next STI. Online version here:

Looks like a Scion Tc, Mazda 3, and a STi had a group orgy and this was the result. Not saying its completly bad but I can see the design ques. Would be interesting if Subaru went this route instead of the boxy feel they currently have. Just ditch the HUGE wing on the back.

I'd hope they give the STi a sleaker look. Damn, if they just made the STi as remotely good-looking as the RX-8, I'd want one even more. Still wouldn't be able to pay for insurance at this age though...

Actually it's just what they(a magazine) think it's gonna look like since there were rumors of the new imprezas being hatchbacks. The magazine only did it because they were featuring the X concept/ EVO X

I just realized that I mistakenly linked to the photo instead of the Autoweek article:

We've all seen and read about the next EVO, but here's what's written about the STI:
The photo in the mag looks better than the one on the website (due I assume to the high compression in the JPG). It seems plausible to me that the current concept could look like this... it's more believable than any of the other older renderings I've seen. But I won't be surprised if the production car looks different either.

Not to be outdone, Subaru will bring out an all-new Impreza, with a conceptual version of the base Impreza making its world debut on the New York stage next spring. Though the STI shown here won’t arrive until sometime in 2008, look for the base Impreza in mid-2007, followed soon after by the Impreza WRX.
Count on the same tried- and-true formula: a turbocharged 2.5-liter flat four, making as much as 330 hp in STI guise, all-wheel drive, and razor-sharp handling. STI is expected in sedan and hatchback configurations.

Rumor does have it that the all new STI coming out next year will be available in hatch or sedan form. It's all speculation though , and that photo means nothing. It's simply not accurate, and we don't know what it's going to look like.

Forgot to mention earlier. That "photo" is just a photoshop of Autocar's photoshop from a couple months ago.

I disagree with the idea that the STi should look more sleek and smooth. The STi is a beast and IMO should look the part. Of course it shouldn't be the plain ugly kind of beastly, but an aggressive, well-laid out beast with bulges and edges in the right places. I actually liked the last gen STi look the best out of all the other generations so far -- the in-your-face headlights and distinctive taillights gave it a menacing presence. I hate the way Subaru is "sleeking out" the headlights and overall body shape, and if people keep complaining about the STi being "ugly" and that it should "look better" I believe Subaru will misinterpret "look better" as being more sleek instead of being a more beautiful beast, as I see the trend going now.
