hmm, that's a good question...
New 2004 RX-8 for a used 2003 G35c? Of course not
New 2004 G35c for my used 2004 RX-8? Probably...i doubt i'd sell it to make money either, i'd drive it around for a while and see how i like it...if i like it, i'll keep it...if not, i'll sell it and get my 8 back...
problem is, my best friend owns a 2003 G35 with quite a few mods to it...i just don't want to have the same car as him! oh, and they ARE pretty damn fast, faster than the 8 obviously in straight line, but feels very heavy (i've driven it quite a few times)...
exterior is subjective, i LOVE the G35's back end more than the RX-8's but the RX-8's front end looks MUCH better than the G35's...side profile is a toss-up, both are lookers...interior, the RX-8's, IMO, is much better - the materials as well as button placement...the G35's very cheap plastic feeling center console is pretty horrendous but everyting else feels very sturdy while the 8's interior materials, while of quality workmanship, seem flimsy as if Mazda tried to make everything too light...
i like the G35's navigation system better...it has more features, better navigation, bird's eye view, more locations, and you can actually input exact business names into it...only gripes are that you can't input stuff while driving and controls should be easily accessible like the 8's
in the end, both are great cars...i'd take either of them right now but i'm pretty happy with my 8...if i had enough money i'd have both, the only problem is choosing which one is the beater!

I was looking at the G35C before I got my '8', but I liked the 8's interior much better, plus the G35 uses different size tires front/rear, which means you can't rotate the tires. On the RX-8 they are the same size, which means you can rotate the tires and get longer life out of them.

Why the debate?
Both cars are not even in the same class or realm. One is more for luxury, and the other is for sporty appearance.
I have both cars, and both I love but I am selling my Rx8 because of the lack of power. Dont get me wrong, I never bought it to break records, but personally I feel and I know they will come out with a better and stronger engine. When that time comes, Ill buy another one.
Last but not least, some of you guys here complain about the most irrelevant stuff. Sorry but if someone in their right mind who actually knows they are buying a true genuine sports car, please for the sake of the automobile industry, dont complain about poor GAS mileage ! If you are so concerned , and a strong advocate for SAVE THE EARTH campaign, buy a CIVIC hybrid..
Sorry, but my M3 has shitty gas, when I had the porsche boxster S, it was crappy too.. but those are great cars nonetheless !

Otherwise, please shut the f*ck up. Thank you

the RX8 sticks out in a crowd compared to 350z's and G35's. Seems like they are everywhere now...not too many RX8's on the road still...
should u trade? not unless you didnt like your RX8. i love the 8 and this year sometime i might get a g35 as well...why? for my future wife...and we might trade cars every once in a while when that happens...

I don't have RX-8, so can't answer you. But I have a G35 sedan, just let me say it this way.......I won't trade my G35 sedan for any car in or below the same price range.

This is the sales number for March 2004
RX-8: 2,373
350Z: 3,306
G35 coupe: 2,781
3-series coupe/convertible: 3,545
S2000: 758
Lancer Evolution: 460
TSX: 2,206
IS300: 1,007
Among these eight typical mid-priced boy-racers, RX-8 was ranked number four as far as sales number, and it is not that far behind the first three, so it is just a matter of time for you to see RX-8 everywhere.

flipstream - essentially you're asking a congregation of passionate 8 owners if they would convert their religion. Each of these people bought an 8 based on their criteria. I don't have an 8 yet but I've narrowed a dozen cars down to two, the 8 and G35. The G35 is gorgeous but I'm planning on having kids soon and the G35 back seats are very cramped for adults (I haven't tried fitting a baby seat back there yet though). The 8 fits my criteria better and currently is my top pick. But what matters most is you should go with the car that best meets your needs or desires. If you're thinking about making the switch, you can always try a G35 and go back to an 8 if it doesn't work out.

My criteria when buying the car was mainly the fun to drive factor. My choice of cars: G35, 330ci, 350Z, RSX and RX8 ..... all manual transmissions. I chose the 8. G35 and the Z did not feel THAT fast...i really expected a great head snapping torqee feel with these two cars but it wasn't like that. They were fast but not THAT fast. As for handling, I am no expert judging cornering/slalom etc etc. but the G and Z both felt HEAVY. Now 330ci was fun but completely out of my 30 'ish price range and i didn't want to get a used one. If you want to compare/trade G and 8 pls go test drive both back to back.

I think you have to drive the car for at least a few weeks to see everything about this car, since you need to drive it on different pavements, under different weather conditions, in different speed range. Test driving for a few hours is still not enough for a non-professional car tester to throughly "know" the car, let alone the typical ten minutes test drive you obtain from dealers. Sometimes when you first jump on a car and you dislike it, but after a few hours or a few days, the car grows on you. All you can say from the test drive from dealers is that you get a basic feel of the car. One thing I think I can say is that both G35 and RX-8 are pretty close in 0-60 time.

Drove the G35. Felt heavy. Infinity dealership did not have any 6 spd and they did not want to come off MSRP even for auto. Offered me trash for my trade in. It takes me at least 4-5 trips to a dealer to make up my mind on a car. So anyway G35 dropped off my list pretty quick. Hated that most were auto, and the car felt heavy.

I owned a G35 and traded it in for an RX 8...
Reasoning? Wanted something more pratical... something a little cheaper... When the RX8 came out, I already had bought my G35 and felt like I missed out on something great... yes, the G35 had a lot more low end torque... ****, taking off would push me back to my seat... but the RX8 handling is far more superior than the G35, it's more fun to drive and I'm really starting to love the high end power... rotaries rule...
Pistons? boring...

hands down on RX8.
it is simply an experience of combination of all kinds of uniqueness and innovation; as a result, a great balance for a car that is remarkable in the world. check out the top gear video, it explains a lot.
i also appreciate Mazda's braveness, innovative, and insist to build a sport car like this, which has not existed be4. Mazda will not change its attitude towards builing RX8 becox of the popularity and manufacturing cost; consequently, a high quality sports car is built.
1.strong and functional virtual b-pillar, i cant find any sports car that do the same job.
2.Rotary engine
3. a usuable trunk.
4. 4 door, 4 seats
5. an extrememly stunning design that there are a lot to understand. bio-fusion...u no
6. 50:50
7. 9kRPM
8. digital meter
etc...
G35c is also a good car, but it is just not as out standing as RX8. It is a coupe with 4 seats, 2 doors, big wheels, nice engine, an okay looking interior, a little-bit german-feel design out look, plenty of torque, usable trunk too, and thats it. there are some certion factors which are lacking to make it outstanding...
i can still remember the first time i saw RX8 on the magazine, and i was like WTF; it is totally different from RX7! the RX8 doesnt even look like it can run fast! where are the wings? where is the turbo? what is this?! in fact, at that time, i hate RX8. however, i went to a car show in LA, and saw the real thing. i was like, "ah ha...interesting...". since than, i started to do lots of searchings on it. i checked out the RX8 official japanese site; done all the translation; read tons of reviews; i love it.
and yes, the infiniti's resell value is higher than RX8; however, if resell vale is my consideration, i would go for mini copper. if i'm going for HP, i got an EVO already. if i'm going for luxury, BMW is my garage for a long time.
well, maybe the mazdaspeed or rx8 turbo will be a nice solution for some G35c owners:D

The G35 is one sweet machine let me tell ya. Theres absolutely nothing lacking in that car......its a panty remover if i ever saw one....
BUT....
Good as it is and looks, it just doesn't have that uniqueness. There are just way too many on the road and I've gotten really sick of them. Not to mention its a lot more money too.
Verdict:
I choose the RX8, for the money you pay you get such wicked value!! exotic looking sport car thats fast enough, is still sensible with a nice luxurious feel (especially in the GT)
