Rotary Powered Concepts

Maybe some of you saw the Forbes top concept cars, the HR-X from '91 didn't make the cut, but here is a pic just the same.

Hydrogen powered rotary.
Mercedes powered rotary.

My favorite would have to be the RX-01. Sure, the styling needed a little work before it would be ready for production, but it had all the elements of the perfect sportscar. Light weight (2400lbs), a high-revving NA renesis, and a really cool front spoiler integrated into the hood. I hope the next RX-7 is just like this but prettier.

Also, the designer of the FD mentioned some other concept cars like the RX-44, which was a 4-rotor 4-seat car. I searched for pictures and info but couldn't find anything more about it...

Wow, the second one looks like Toyota's new Triathlon Race Car, and that was over 10 years ago. Why do so many car companies have great concept cars, but stick with outdated-plain-vanilla models for such a long time (just like Chrysler did throughout all of the 90's)?

It's barely in the last few years when automakers acutually went with their guts and took risks and brought us such things as the Rotary-Powered, Suicide-Door, 4-Seat-Sports-Car, known to all as the beloved RX-8.

Imagine if Mazda had not taken the risk, where would we be now? Driving 350Z's? I hope not!

yeah, the RX-01 is pretty cool, it does look dated though, kind of like the mx6. I really like the styling of the RX-8, pictures really don't do this car justice.
I try not to imagine what the next 7 may look like, I really hope they are as creative as they have been with the FD and 8.
