New member from Italy, MrILO shared this fantastic article from Mazda on their continued manufacture of rotary engines.
It has restored my resolve to wait for a new engine unless I hear for a fact there is no longer any chance of getting one.

Does anyone know a Orlando central Florida rebuilder that is reliable I love my 2010, might be a bit harder with the S2 engine but I have just over 150,000 miles on the engine and it is making bad noises and seems to have lost at least some power. It is fine once it is warm and it is only idleing or at a stoplight that I have rattling but I love my car, If I can get the apex seals replaced and the engine rebuilt I might just drive it another 10 years.

Diagnose the problem first.
It could be as simple as a failed pulley bearing.

Thanks I found them, bit far for me but might be the way to go. Had misfires and took it to sport mazda and they replaced the plugs and honestly had a really bad experience where the replaced gas tank seal (recall) and the replacement dumped gas everywhere. asked for a compression test and they didn't do it because they were sure it was just the plug. Just had another misfire hope I don't end up doing too much damage driving it.

Many of the common problems are easily fixable.
Plugs, coils, wires, some of the related procedures are relatively simple.

Not really, I had the coils and wires replaced with the new plugs, though I now regret going with OEM. But I really don't have the tools or the talent to do much myself. It really sucks because I love the car but will now have to move it to a future project. Got a good 10 years and 150,000 miles out of it so can't complain. Miguel Auto Repair Shop Inc looked like an option but they do not answer their phone. At this age I would kind of like to get the rebuild and apex seals replaced before they fail, but if too much has been chewed up I would be looking at a new engine.

If you got good Rev. C coils and not Ebay knockoffs you should be OK.

That does not explain the misfire though, about the only thing different this morning is it hadn't been driven for a few days. I just am not sure how long it will be reliable, when it's moving there really is no problem it's just when idling it sounds like there is only one rotor or at least too much vibration. wish I could repair it myself.

I added some details about The Rotary Doctor in Neosho, MO.
I will likely be using them for my engine replacement work, so I'm adding notes about work relevant to my situation and possibly others here in flyover country.

If anyone is interested, I bought the new Pineapple engine from Rob Babicki which he referenced earlier, so my personal 5 year saga is finally approaching a resolution.

that’s a big negative given their current status from many people; charging customers CC for parts that are backordered and 6+ months later still hung out of the part and the funds is usually a sign of robbing Peter to pay Paul. Absolutely unethical to charge until the part has arrived and is ready to ship out. The only exception might be custom or special order if it’s agreed up front by both parties:

I will definitely note these in the header.
I don't frequent the RX7Club, and I'm guessing they don't think about the RX8CIub much either.
I'm glad you pointed these out.

Recently had my engine rebuilt by Pettit. Shipped my engine June 8th, took just over a week to get to them, received a quote on July 5th, I accepted and they had it ready to ship on the 8th. My engine needed 2 new housings and used replacements for the rear rotor, rear, and center irons due to a catastrophic apex seal failure. When received it was all nice and cleaned/painted, new thermostat, exhaust manifold gasket, and copper washers for the omp line to housing banjo bolts included. Lots of new hardware was installed (my car came from Illinois originally so lots of corrosion on the old stuff), new ground strap for lower intake included, new intake valve sensors installed, and new front pulleys. One odd thing was one of the water pump studs was installed in the wrong hole, but not a big deal to fix. I've put about 90 miles on it so far and it runs great. I opted for their stage 2 build with the rotors machined for FD apex seals, my total came out to 7,868.50. That included 700 for 2 way freight between Kansas and Florida, 2 brand new housings, used rotor and 2 irons, and their lightweight flywheel and counterweight. Overall quite happy with my experience with them, seems to be a great engine and price was about what I was expecting for all the parts required. Another thing to note, they don't seem to be very communicative through email, before I sent my engine in I had asked for a quote between new and rebuild through email and didn't get a response for over a week, so had to call and get an answer. I've sent several emails to them about the engine and other part orders and they've only ever answered one, but they do answer over the phone.

Thanks for sharing your experience.
That seems like a lot to me for a rebuild, but it appears you to have a lot of extras other than just a rebuilt keg.
If you're happy that's all that matters.

I strongly recommend new rotors and rotor housings with the rotors machined for RX7 apex seals whether blueprinted or not
if you’re in for the long haul and can afford it (assuming NA use); Iannetti ceramic RX7 apex seals for the modified rotors, but you’re looking at a ~$9000 keg.

I just heard of another bad experience from IRP in NJ.
At this point I'd definitely say BUYER BEWARE.
