Rolex GT Speedsource Mazda6 Pics!
Agreed on both points Paul.
The actual production car is bigger, midsize-ish, but having seen the people in those pics standing next to an RX-8 vs that 6, it's about the same size.
And yes, while technically true that diesel fuel is 'oil', the term does make people think of:

Simply not true any more.
Also have seen lots of comments about "diesel clatter", which I don't believe the Sky-Ds have AT ALL, but people make the assumption that they do. And then the urea treatments...
Ignorance. Blinders.

I noticed a 6 expiring at practice yesterday on YT, I did not think it was a good idea to post.
Did anyone see/hear what went wrong, it was the White 6 with Green Stripes, sorry I forgot the car #..
It was titled as an engine failure...had to be towed.

Mazda 6 is much larger car than any RX-8..
SA-D does not have any urea after-treatment.
And I am still not certain 'if' these racing 6's has DPF, why would they use them?, they are racing cars in a Mazda body panel shell, with about 275 OE Engine parts, the rest of the car has no OE stuff...even engine is North South mounted and RWD ONLY.
BTW: Later generation Diesels going back to the mid 80's did not blow black exhaust smoke, this is very old school thinking, the only reason you 'would' see black diesel smoke is/was because the Fuel Injector Pump was not 'tuned/timed' correctly....Then came DPF, then came after-treatment (Urea)...now comes Mazda's own SA-D, and a regenerative CONVERTER and no urea..
Yep, the new Clean Diesels are a totally different beast.

In every video I have seen of the Grand Am GX Mazda6, it is extremely quiet. Even in the dyno video. You definitely hear more turbo whistle, tire noise, and transmission gear whine than actual engine noise. Then again, we can thank modern diesels for that.
Mazdas in Grand Am literally went from THE LOUDEST cars to the quietest.

Well that's somewhat irrelevant as the 20B's in previous GT cars at any RPM below 5000 would still be louder than the 2.2L SkyA-D pinning redline... Lack of noise is purely based on modern fuel injection systems of the diesels and the cycle. Not to mention exhaust noises are suppressed by its turbos.

they solved with leds and a rigid tube between engine bay and cockpit as a passive speaker.
"low sound from engine, limited rpms was an issue in some situation".
