My whole point is that if you are going to have back seats...why not make it useful? Why add weight and size to a car only for a symbolic rear seat setup? It's a stupid waste really...

The Camaro has always been a 2+2...so make it a useful 2+2 or else save me the weight, size, and space by adding useless rear seats. I'll tell you this...if the Camaro was a 2 seater I'll bet you they could only sell 1/3 of the Camaro's they could sell as a 2+2.

I'm trying to keep the Camaro close to it's roots...while it seems what some of you are suggesting is for it to become...what GM already has...the Vette.

Again...make the rear seats useful or leave them out all together!

Rarely do I see eye-to-eye with churchy but I must agree here.... couldnt have said it better myself

There is a light at the end of the tunnel :D

http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...ticleId=106732

"DETROIT — Chevrolet plans to take the wraps off a concept Camaro at the 2006 Detroit auto show in January.

Also, Inside Line has learned the automaker is evaluating proposals to revive the classic performance-car nameplate in 2009-2010 on a new low-cost rear-wheel-drive platform.

Among the scenarios under discussion inside General Motors is the development of a lower-cost version of the Sigma rear-drive platform that underpins the Cadillac CTS and STS sedans. Another proposal would take the new rear-drive platform that's being developed in Australia for the next-generation Holden Commodore sedan and spin off a low-cost variant for North America.

GM planners are said to have targeted several body styles for the Chevy and Pontiac brands on a new rear-drive platform, including a sport sedan, a sporty coupe and a convertible. The Camaro and GTO badges could be used on those vehicles, according to company sources.

Across town, Chrysler is said to be preparing a concept Dodge Challenger for the '06 Detroit show, to test the market for a proposed two-door performance car it wants to introduce around 2008-2009 as a potential competitor to the Ford Mustang.

What this means to you: Guess it was just a matter of time and environmental awareness — the original definition of muscle cars doesn't fit well with new perceptions of what's best for the world...could there be a "green" muscle car in our future?"

here are two more illustrations of what the new Camaro might look like. These are "supposedly" the most accurate representations of it thus far:

mmmm....RWD, LS2, 6MT

The lines on that car remind me of a 70 Barracuda.

3rd, who the heck are you to tell me what type of car person I am and what I should be driving?

Most people have families and declaring that sports cars should only have 2 seats or made as RedRexNJ declares it should be made is as IG-NANT as it comes. They don't make cars for you...they make it to appeal to the broadest amount of people possible. 2 seaters have always been slower selling than every other car type so either stick to the Camaro heritage and make it a 2+2 (useful 2+2) or move on to a Vette.

I've been a sports car guy since I was way young and all of my cars have been 2+2's. I know most 2+2's are virtually useless (less the GTO and RX8) and in my "opinion" it's just stupid to put seats back there if you can't use them...it's a waste of space, weight, and comfort.

I got the RX8 because in the future I could drive around with 3 rug rats...teaching them how a sports car should be built (if it's a 2+2) and the ways of ZOOM ZOOM ZOOM. I have no use for a 2 seater but I wont compromise my love of the “sports car” because people LIKE YOU want to force me into it.

You might be in a minivan one day...but you will never see me driving one that's for sure.

This is the best post you have ever made.

Also, I disagree that the size and space killed the F-bodies. It was the market. Look at all the cars that died within the late 90s/early 2000s... RX-7, 300ZX, 3000 GT, Supra, Camaro/Firebird. The "sports car" (loose term! don't go all dictionary on me) market was stale and not profitable, and needed to be purged and reborn... and it's happening now. Look at the cars since 2004... Crossfire, 350Z, Solstice, RX-8, fresh "retro" Mustang (that everyone is going crazy over), etc. I think it was a good thing for the market to lose sports cars for a few years... it made everyone (meaning mostly NOT car-fanatic people like us) excited about sports cars again.

Also, I think someone needs to tell RedRexNJ that a "Rex" is made by Subaru ;)

LucasET 08-11-2005 03:28 AM

The red one looks like a Holden, but I like the "sketch". They need to do away with the lines coming off the wheels. It's too busy for my taste...and I own an RX8.

BTW, did I not call it on post#30? :D I would say 2008 if they want to be successful with it. 2009 would be too late IMO.

Thanks…that’s all I’m trying to say!

This is the best post you have ever made.
Thanks and I agree with you also. The "FUN" and "SOUL" of sports cars is why I love them.

I've always said to everyone (since I'm an BIG auto enthusiast also) if I"m going to spend X amount of money on a car, spend X amount of money maintaining it, X amount of money for insurance, and X amount of money paying for the monthly...

I BETTER LOVE THAT CAR or else I don't want anything to do with it.

here are two more illustrations of what the new Camaro might look like.
I like them both but I like the white (or colorless) sketch better. I also agree that the long flare coming from the wheel wells is a bit much. (please GM...the green butt...the green butt)

Someone needs to send this thread to GM…sure, it does not have A LOT of replies but I think all of us agree that if they are bringing it back…bring it back the RIGHT WAY!

damn...i'd buy any of these concepts if they made it. Please GM....dont butcher this one

Dinhx8 08-12-2005 08:59 AM

those photochops of the black one look cool, the sketches look cool too, but very nervous about the 'weight' factor, not so much in terms of the power it will have (LS2 sounds great), but its tossibility and fun to drive ness and handling.

It looks like it could have come off the Brera concept (which was a kickass design). The rear definitely says Cobalt, but I actually like that.
Here's an older concept I found the other day. It's from a while back. I'd say a big NO to this one. I hate when all the models to a brand have a particular "theme" to them, the bar across the front in this case, or the cross on Dodges.

rx8wannahave 08-12-2005 10:36 AM

The Black concept...is...

HOT!!!!!!

SmilingBeaver 08-13-2005 10:52 AM

its almost orgasmic.... so sleeeeeeeeeeeek :p

Sorry but I love camero's :o

rx8wannahave 08-15-2005 07:15 AM

Everytime I look at the last black "concept" Camaro...my heartbeat skips a beat...I mean...

WOW!!!!!

TODreamer 08-15-2005 08:02 AM

If that black Camaro turns out to be a reality....... I'll get "F-Body" tatooed on my arse and be the first man in line like a gangbang on Kobe Tai LOL

$37000 fully loaded with 400 hp. How can it be so affordable? It must be low quality workmanship. If it's anything like GM has produced in the past, for performance Camaros, expect to be in the shop alot and on first name basis with the GM service employees.

Go buy a z 28, see for your self. Let us know how it goes. Hope your a master mechanic. You'll need to be.

David_M 08-17-2005 03:19 PM

Actually Im clearing space in the garage right now for a early '70s Camaro an I'm employed as a master mechanic ( though not an auto mechanic ). I've owned several Chevys, though not any Camaros, and they didn't give me any undue trouble. If Chevrolet produced something I wanted I'd buy it.

Just for your general information 37k is around the base price for the G35, the Evo and the WRX Sti just to name a few examples. Chevy already has an off the shelf 400 HP V8, it's in the Corvette. So there you go, several examples of good quality cars at around 37k and verifyable proof that Chevy can deliver a reliable 400 hp engine. It's not a matter of can they build a new Camaro but do they have the will.

DARKMAZ8 08-17-2005 04:10 PM

I like it but I'm affraid that the muscle car trend is in a serious downslope. That coupled with gas prices and I don't see any record sales with this car.

Ever since they chucked out the carb., muscle cars were never the same. I do like the looks of this car as I do with the new mustang but I think that the younger generation will not jump on that bandwagon. Power without great handling just doesn't sell anymore. Plus with cars like the srt4, sti, evo around, I believe there is better performance to be had for the money.

That's good to hear, Might be safe to buy one now, but not back in the 80's. They were alot of trouble back then and GM would'nt listen.

$37k?? According to who? Maybe you meant $27k. That would be about right. There's no way they are going to sell it more expensive than the GTO.

BTW, here's the original Alfa that the fan-made photoshops were based on:

I have been reading about this for awhile now...
I used to own a 98 camaro, and outside of the looks (which is why I got it) the car really sux. If they plan on bringing it back they better do some serious modifications!
I owned a manual 6 and it had decent power so im sure the z28 flew. But the shifting was horrible, the ride was rough, the interior had lots of wasted space that could have been used to give the pasenger & drivers more room, the turning radius was horrible, the car had the tendency to spin out on you due to weight problems (which is what happened to me) and the car it self was just wayy to big for the amount of space inside. Dont get me wrong I really liked the car while I had it cause quite frankly it was a camaro and getting laid was just much easier hehe
I own a 97 pontiac grand am gt right now, its overall length is shorter than the camaros, but there is a lot more room inside of it.
However after my experiences with american cars I doubt ill ever buy one again unless it really stands out, thats why I am going for the 8.
The quality in these cars plan old suck, and they look ugly now too.
The 8 is pretty clear in my mind once I have the money, I just hope they can give them a few more mpg when im ready to buy.
In this day in age Mazada could be doing so much more with the 8 if they just tightened up some of the loose ends it has with the car..
