I don't know for sure, but I imagine each rotor gets its own side plate.

While your raod racing statement isn't incorrect, it's not altogether true. It's a Miata thing, not neccesarily a Mazda thing. And Laguna Seca whored its name for advertising money. Mazda just happened to be the highest bidder. Mazda has the same "motorsport involvement" in Laguna Seca as 3COM has "NFL involvement" with Candlestick Park. They're simply business relationships.

That wasn't his statement. He got the quote from the rotary news website. Mazda does actually test alot there though. I doubt 3com hangs out at Candlestick Park that much.

Here is a cool CAD drawn picture that was posted in the reply section at rotarynews.com. Not sure where it came from other than it was posted by Dan Mazella. It still looks really cool.

One more: are those 2 side irons per housing? or just a free interpretation of what the 20B would be like?

I am using this as my model for the old 20B:

Edit: I just noticed, that thing has 3 13b housings sandwiched.....wrong reference.

Great post. That's a very helpfull drawing for anybody trying to wrap their brain around the basic concept of rotary engines. Very cool.

It's just a basic interpretation of what it might look like. The 3 rotor in your photo is what it would look like from the top. Don't worry that it says 13B rather than 20B. It is not uncommon for people to rebuild them with 13B housings. The exhaust port sleeves on the 20B are really messed up terms of shape and airflow.

In the 20b photo, why is one of the intermediate side housings larger than the other?

Anyone want to give weight projections for the Renesis 20B? 450lb+? Too heavy?

Don't siamesed ports run hotter? Would that be a problem?
