Racing Tickets
Hey guys I was just wondering if i got a ticket or not.
Heres the situation, I was going home on the freeway and my friend and I decided to test our cars (he has dc5). We started going at it for a little bit and I pulled a good deal ahead but then behind me a light flashed and I knew i was boned, but then the cop trailed me for a few seconds ( I was going about 95 at this time) with his side light on and then he got off the freeway. At first i was like wow i just got so lucky but then I found out he did the same to my friend.
Was he writing down our license plates or was he just trying to get us to slow down? Ive heard of racing tickets before but usually the cop pulls over one of the two so I'm not too sure what just happened. Thanks for any input.

I cant imagine that he would give you a ticket without pulling you over???? I would say that one of two things happened:
1. He was running your license plate to see if the car was stolen, etc..
2. He just wanted you to slow down.
I have had both happen at least once, though usually with #2 the cop will just get on the P A system buit in to the car and tell you to slow down (sort of funny when it happens).
You should be fine if he didn't stop you.

Im not sure if this is related but if he didn't pull me over then how is he supposed to ID the person in the car.
Ex: you can fight traffic camera tickets if it doesn't have a clear shot of the person in the car (i've heard this before can anyone confirm?)

I agree with Solidtrance. He wanted to make certain that there wasn't something bigger going on than a couple of people being dumb. That or in the middle of starting the traffic stop, he got a call for something more important (B&E, shots fired, officer needs assistance, car accident, etc).

I've gotten a ticket on that camera crap and they don't need a picture of you . All they need is your plate number. If its register to you then your responsible .

Camera tickets are very state dependent. In NY with a camera ticket you get a photo copy of the amendment that says they don't need a picture of the person driving the car. That the owner is responsible anything anyone driving their car does.
In fact I think ALL our cameras only take pictures from behind the car.
At least you don't get points.

You got really lucky dude. He was probably just too lazy to pull you over and arrest your ***.
If you were doing 30mph over the limit if he pulled you over he'd probably be required to cite you for reckless driving and just didn't want to deal with the hassle.
Or maybe he had somewhere more important to be.
Maybe he was just a good cop and didn't think you deserved a ticket because at least you weren't racing on the streets....

Speaking of police and their A-pillar spotlights, I was sitting at the end of an unfinished street talking with a buddy of mine after a night out (no idea why we stopped there, may have been getting directions) and a cop drove up and shined his light on us. He started to drive toward us, and I started to approach to see if he wanted anything. Then, out of nowhere, he took off at WOT down the finished part of the street, no siren or anything and he still had his spotlight on.
That was really, really odd.

They violate your rights to due process.
It is just a money making scam.
Fight it, tell them where to go.

I was a cop for a long time. I was laid back, so, if some idiot wasn't being too dangerous and traffic was realy light, I would pull up behind speeders to warn them and not pull them over. A few times I was on my way to an emergancy call and came up on people absolutely flying. Of course I could not pull them. I am sure that is scared the hell out of them. And, honestly, when I was bored, I would screw with people like that occasionaly. Better to be screwed with than to get a ticket.

actually when i owned a sti cvoming home from boston i decided to go at it with this audi and sure enough there were cop cars behind us pointing spot lights at both of us then i said to myself wow im screwed few minutes go by and the cops are now nowhere to be seen so i thought they got off so sure enough i said ok thats enough so i let the audi just go past me maybe 1/2 mile go by and i see the same audi pulled over with about 3 staties on him so when i thought i dodged a bullet 2 weeks later i get a ticket in the mail for $1500 for drag racing and a few other violations like illegal lane changing and so on i ended up gettin a lawyer and they took the drag racing off the ticket and reduced it to 300$.. so anyways my point is only cause they didnt pull u over doesnt mean ur clear just yet.. the key is they have something like 6 days from the day of the offense to mail the ticket and in my case they took 7 days to do so.. so thats a main reason y i got lucky.. i hired a lawyer and payed him $1000 and he brought up that point and even thou i paid 300 i think i won that case big time

yup just looked at the ticket-$1250 so a little less than the stated $1500 but still
drag racing-$500
156mph in a 65mph zone-$they got me for $450
illegal lane changing for 2 miles-$275
then mass makes u pay a donation depending on the amount of the ticket for some thing and it brought the ticket to $1250

I've hit 153 before probably could have pushed more but at that point I had to think about what I was doing on the highway and slow the f*ck down. All I had done to the car at that point was the AP pulley and at the time a K&N v.2 intake...

winds/hill grades can also change the top speed
Also, Kevin may not have been driving an 8 haha
Wow, I remember once an auto 8 and I kind of played (if you can even call it that). Both cars were white, I basically would pull ahead each time (not too fast, probably to 93). I switch 2 lanes to the right, look in my left side view mirror and sure enough, there's an officer of the law. My lane was drifting off to another freeway and as Im slowing separating the other white 8 got pulled over. This is one of the rare times I would speed, normally Im even afraid of going over 80...
