Porsche GT3

I'm bored, so I decided to post this report on the upcoming Porsche GT3. I never really liked the upper-echelon Porsches, sans the Turbo and GT2. This one reminds me of the old Yellowbirds I've love so much. They really need to change the back half though. Yecch. :p

Oh yeah, if this is a repost, screw the repost police.

Looks good, if I had to have a porsche right now (Carerra GT excluded) the current GT3 is what I would get. I really think they need to do something with these new porsches to make the rear wheel arches more defined. I don't really like how the back is so flowing, I want to see some BA BOW!!

I hate those cars! It looks stupid and there's better performance cars for the price. All your paying for with porsche is the reputation.

Have you ever driven a Porsche? The feedback and general feel of the car is amazing, something that I thought fellow RX8 fans would surely appreciate. There's more to cars than numbers on paper, as we all know.

I would imagine that a C6 Z06 would offer relatively equal performance numbers while costing about half as much, just as the C5 Z06 compares to the current GT3. Since that car hasn't been released yet, I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Tell your friend to come over to my place so I can borrow his cars without taking them back.

What's more amazing about Porsche is their mastery of the often-uninspiring MacPherson strut suspension. Of course, in the suspension world, nothing beats double wishbone/multilink around the corner, yet Porsche somehow manages to crush those myths time and time again.

IMO, the difference between a GT3 and say, a Corvette ZO6, is the quality of comfort. If you've ever sat in a 996, and then a Corvette, you would be able to tell the difference. For example, the C5 utilized a lot of cheap, plastic parts. If you really weren't concerned with creature comforts, then a Vette was always the way to go. I've sat in a couple of 996's, and I have to say it was as comfortable as an S 430; it had all the amenities of a luxury car, packaged in a hardcore performance machine.

Personally, between a Porsche and Corvette, I would go with the Corvette. One, I don't care much for miscellaneous electronics and high-quality materials; I want my interior to be as analog as possible. Two, my heart belongs with the Corvette. Porsches are very beautiful cars, but I would never own one.

BTW, I believe what would make the Corvette even nicer is if they had an almost stripped-down version, like the EVO MR. All I need is A/C (it's Texas), manually-adjustable cloth seats, and a radio. That's it.

The stripped down Evo is the RS. The MR is a more powerful version of the regular Evo with even more electronic goodies.

The biggest problem with the Vette is the relative lack of feedback, when related to the Porsche at least. I'll own both hopefully, and the Vette will be an anything killer after a few large checks to Lingenfelter! My first love is the Vette, but the Porsche is my right now dream car, 911 Turbo. But I do like the Aston Martin Vanquish, they just cost too much for what you get.

Driven a lot of cars in the past. Vettes are too big, I feel like I'm driving a boat. Power feels like it's in front of you, instead of at your finger tips (come to think of it, the Camaro feels the same way). And, I don't know about you, but I'd rather see a road, than a hood of a car. Ferraris are better, but the visuals stink and the handling isn't better than a GT-2 or 3.Both my wife and I have owned 79' 930 Porsches in our previous lives (second marriages are nature's "mid course corrections). You become a Porsche fan for life with those cars. Not as bad "back swaying" as some would lead you to believe as long as you've been trained properly. Actually, mine had a fun little doo-hickey added on to it called a RUF. You all should try one some time.

AND, to keep it all in the family, our son is one of the principal mechanics for Petersen Motorsports. Look him up, his name is Nico Castellaccio. www.petersenmotorsports.com (or http://64.234.204.233/index.asp?play=1).
Now, if ya think the GT3 is a wahoo, You should see this GT-3R in action at Le Mans, France (Winners the last 2 years) Normally aspirated at 700 horses.

With our experiences in driving the Porsches, is it no wonder we have an 8???

The new Corvette is dimensionally just about the same size as a 911. It'll still probably feel larger than the Porsche does, unfortunately.

Sounds like you've had some amazing cars in the past and have a lot of experience really driving all of them. That RUF must have been incredible.

Yeah, Kid, the RUF was fun...0-60 in 4.3. With the RUF suspensions, 165 was pretty comfortable. When ya graduate from college, don't go for a regular job like all the other slobs out there, take some risks and you won't be a poor college kid very long. I opened my own biz within a year after graduating and haven't looked back!

To compare a Z06 to a GT3 is a joke. It might look similar in physical/magazine #'s but it is completely different feeling. I had an oppotunity to drive both a regular Vette & a Z06 around Willowsprings, and even if dimensionally they are the same, it was like night & day with my 911 Carrera (w/sports suspension). The Z06 while very fast is ponderous and the long hood makes you feel very isolated from the track. The suspension does not make you feel very lively. It's like the car was an instrument for speed, but the took the soul out of the car. A sentiment often stated from Ferrari owners about Porsche, but in this case the GT3, like the GT2 is a much more raw & viceral ride.

Agreed. Now, if only Porsche can do something about those back-ends.
