You know, I really like that without the spoiler. It kinda has a "sleeper" look to it. And the white is very nice. the only other color I would want it in is silver, but so does every one else it seems. I have a friend who worked for a newspaper and got to drive and write about whatever cars he could get his hands on. He got an Evo not too long after they came to the US. He let me have it for an entire day...I called in sick that day and put about 300 miles on it. I was living in Indianapolis at the time and the state fair was going on. I cannot tell you how many heads it turned. It was the bright blue, so that had something to do with it. If you can keep ther revs under 3500, you'd never know it was a monster...very much like a standard Lancer, I'm guessing. Once you reach 3500 however, HANG THE "F" ON!! One major reason I didn't get one was that I was afraid I would get too many tickets. You cannot help but go fast in this car. I don't just mean fast, I mean FAST. AND start saving $$$ for tires, as you'll wear them out really quickly. They were made specifically for the Evo and if you look on your door sill, there should be a warning about monitoring treadwear closely...at least there was on the one I drove.
I had it going about 130mph (without realizing it) on a twisty road I had previously found by accident (that I knew was, for all intents and purposes, abandoned during the day), and I can honestly say, I have yet to have as much fun in my RX8. Then again, I own the RX8, so I worry about the consequences of my driving a little more. The real pisser was...asked my friend what they did with the cars when they were done testing, and he said they were scraped because they could never be titled.
Enjoy your new ride man.

Yeah the tires are a bitch. Mine needed replacement at 17k miles, and thats without a single track event or autox. New Yokohama's are ~$200 per tire. Brake pads are another item that wears fairly quick. Mine went at around 20k miles and new OEM pads are pricey (~$200 for front and $160 for the back). It's the price you pay for this level of performance. I went with cheaper tires (~$100 per) and cheaper pads (low dust Hawk) and haven't noticed a big difference (but there is a difference).

Nice car! Love it in white.
Just my taste, but an EVO needs its big *** spoiler in the back, its part of what makes an EVO an EVO. It's like Superman with no cape & "S" on his chest, just doesn't seem right.

Thanks guys...only another 400 miles and she's broken in and ready for some fun. Even while keeping it under 5K RPM's I was able to lose an E36 M3 pretty easily going through the foothills on my way home from work today. I think he got a little skeered. :D

Is there a bit more "tasteful" rear spoiler than the OEM one? I like your car and would entertain the EVO if it weren't for the "boy racer" spoiler. I think it needs something on the lid (maybe something a bit more sporting than the one on the 8). You have a sleeper, but you might want to make it look semiconcious with a small aftermarket spoiler. Maybe someone can Photochop one for you????

I'm one step ahead of you amigo. I had somebody on the EvoM forums photochop the M3 lip onto the RS. I like the look. I just need to find a company that makes one now.

Me likey - not what I had in mind, but better! Gives it a little more profile, teases the red light racers a little....good job. Keep us posted on what you come up with in plastic/fiberglass/aluminum form.

I just found out where u are...I did the run from San Jose airport to Half Moon Bay up to Sausalito and over to Richmond (rental car ). PCH is a beautiful stretch to stretch the EVOs legs out a bit....nice country. Too bad I didn't have more time to spend there.

Steiner -
Just curious - you had both the SRT and EVO at the same time. Forgive me for being lazy if you mentioned it earlier, but what drove you to switch given the SRT's ability to almost (if not fully) hang with the EVO? I haven't driven either, so I'd like to hear. AWD vs. FWD probably had something to do with it, but I'd like to hear your story. Thanks.

Thanks for the reply - I love the idea of a powerful SRT4, but struggle with the fact that it's a Neon. For some reason however, I think people tend to disassociate the lancer from the EVO. I sat in an SRT4 and must admit that I was impressed by the seats, but didn't get to drive it. Maybe I'll tease the Dodge and Mitsu guys this weekend and drive the 8 in for a test drive in their vehicles.

The gas pedal in the SRT-4 has a knack for making you forget it's a Neon. :D
Until I drove the Evo I didn't fully realize the disadvantages of FWD. I mean understood based on things I'd read and people I'd spoken to HOW all wheel drive is superior to FWD, but seeing is believe. There's no experience like first hand experience. Putting lots of HP/TQ to the ground in a FWD car is a nightmare, but it's the disconnected handling feeling that I notice now. The SRT-4 feels floaty and vague in comparison to the Evo. It can be modified with coilover, sway bars and wider rims but it will still be an extremely front heavy car. The Evo is front heavy too, but it doesn't convey that feeling to because of how little the car pitches from side to side or front to back under hard braking and hard cornering. You really feel inspired to drive like a crazy person when you're in the Evo.
The SRT-4 is still more car than anybody should be able to get for $20k. In a few years I wouldn't be surprised to see it have a highly respected niche following like the Buick Grand National. By that point most of the younger owners will have wrecked or sold the car. It's the older Mopar faithfull that made me fall in love with that car. Some of these guys had been waiting since the Omni GLH and some had even been waiting since the 70's for Dodge to start making some affordable performance. It's debatable whether or not the SRT-4 is truly a "musclecar", but some of these guys will defend it as such to the death and they have the time slips to back it up.

That reminds me. last night a new EVO MR pulled up beside me on highway. Now I admit I was impressed, but not for it's price tag. The RS is def a better choice price wise IMO. We toyed around a bit, playing the who's car is better routine, but in end we both gave thumbs up. That would have made one sick highway race had the roads not been so infested with cars.
If I had 35K burning a hole in my pocket I'd make sure it was spent on a car with cruise control, climate control, side airbags, etc. To me the MR is not a great value. It's a great car, just a little too expensive. Plus the jury is still out on that 6 speed tranny. I don't personally see it holding up to modifications like the 5 speed.
