picked up an FX35...

It was time to add a little luxury to the stable. My Evo is fun but it's become an impractical, high horsepower, nearly uninsurable $30k toy unsuitable for anything short of hauling *** around town. The wife's Xterra is fun too, in a utilitarian, X-gaming, 4WD kind of way. Tonight we finally brought home a car we don't have to apologize for when people get inside. Here are some pics.

Creature comforts out the ***. It has every single option. It's my wife's car so I wasn't expecting to take the test drive. The weather was bad though so I volunteered because my wife looked a little uncomfortable driving an unfamilair car in heavy rains and wind. I saw it as a perfect chance to really see what the car can do. The AWD system is noticeably RWD biased. Steering rack is uber quick. Wasn't expecting that. Very good torque and amazing lack of body roll are probably the best performance traits. I took an onramp with all the little cars without a second thought. Brakes are big and grabby. Love the sound of the VQ35 too.

Congrats! nice looking ride! They are supposed to handle great too, be reliable, and hold their value well.

Out of all the SUV's/Crossovers out there the FX is one of the best IMO. However, while I like the VQ sound at certain distances it does have somewhat of a "moaning cow" sound especially the automatics. Someone in my neighborhood has a Z and they drive by every morning when it's quiet...can't help but feel like I'm on a farm.

I hear you Senna... they do have a bassy, flatulent moan to then. An old neighbor used to park his FX right in front of my TH and I always knew when he left in the morning. Brrrlooooohhhhhh..

That said the FX is a very nice (niiiiiice) ride and I'd cop one in a heartbeat if I had the $$$ layin around.

As with the looks of the FX, the sound of the VQ is also somewhat "love or hate". It wins a lot of awards though so I'll learn to live with it.

The Nissan Murano and the Infiniti FX actually have very little in common - atleast structurally. The Nissan Murano is actually based on the Altima chassis. The FX35 is based on the same platform as the 350Z and G35 coupe. It has the same engine too. It's a 280hp 3.5L V6. Of course the FX35 is 4100 lbs too so it's not nearly as quick. It moves though. It feels and handles like the old 7 series bimmers IMHO. Very minimal, almost an incredible lack of, body roll considering the profile. In fact my uncle drove it tonight and thought it handled better than his Ford Lightning. It's the wifey's car but I'm finding myself reaching for the keys. It's a driver's SUV...if such a thing exists.

Congradulations, I have a 45

A few things 1.get used to the "is that the same thing as a Murano?" idiots
2. 35 can be taken far, there are at least two twin turbos and a lot of sc's, a few exhausts, springs, and the bolt pattern is the same as the 8
3. Get rid of the RSA's if they are still on there, they suck, I have BFG KDW's which should have come on the FX to begin with. But even with the RSA's an FX can hang with all but the best handling cars, definitely better than a Lightning, and with the stock suspension and the right tire it will pull .90.
4. Go to infinitifx.org just like this forum the best place for FX info.
5. HAVE FUN, a wonderful vehicle to own, and stop thing of it as a SUV and start thinking of it as a, well, really sorta a overgrown 8 on steroids

+1 for that. It's not even built on the same platform. Love the torque and sound of the VQ35 in our Infiniti too! Marvelous engine.

LOL. Thanks for the tips! And I'm actually already registered at www.infinitifx.org based on the advice of some of the folks on the 350Z motoring boards. It seems to be a very mature forum with great info.

Um not too sure. I mean Nissan/Infiniti puts that VQ engine in nearly everything they make...Altima, Maxima, 350Z, Pathfinder, Xterra, G35, FX35, etc. I'm guessing it's just the combo of that particular engine and whatever type of stainless steel exhaust system they all use that creates that same distinct sound across their product line.

I don't think it sounds too much like the FX35. The FX has more of a droan sound to it, the tone doesn't go up or down too much, it just stays the same all the time. That does sound like my brother's Greddy exhaust on his G35 coupe though.

Oh and for all of you that have the FX's do yourself a favor and get rid of the red taillights. Mine has the silver led ones and they look MUCH better....

I'll have to take some pics when I get home...

Ninja edit:

Oh and get lots of leather conditioner and use it on the back seats often or they will squeak where the armrest folds into the seat.

Hey now, I like my reds, it goes well with the silver, BTW if you got your clears after market you might want to try to stay with them when the recall happens, as Infiniti is going to replace the lights with what came with the car.

Mileage ain't that great. Out here in CA it's been costing me $60+ to fill up on 87 octane and it seems like the car has a healthy appetite for it. It does OK on the freeway but around town it's a little bit below my expectations - if I'm being honest. Compared to the 4.5L V8 in jmerc's FX though, I have nothing to complain about. I can't tell you if it's quicker than an RX-8 on the freeway but I can tell you that it's quicker than my cousin's '91 Mustang GT 5.0.
