the only car tempting me to the darkside(pistons)

..well. heres the deal guys, i love my 8 VERY much. but due to the falling economy and the high level of income im getting from the 3 jobs i work (well 2 soon to be 3) . i am finally able to afford my dream car Lotus Exige S....

Heres why: well when i got my 8 i was paying for it the first 6 months or so until i graduated then it was taken over by my parents for a grad present.
but i still pay for the insurance.

well now that im going to school and am managing to balance that and 2 jobs soon to be 3. i find myself with a large amount of income (for an 18 year old without to many expenses) and im easily making a grand and half ever month or more(this is only with the 2 jobs the third job i have to get training for still) now with a third job i could only imagine how much more money i could make. and am really getting the itch to buy

the Lotus because i've always wanted one,

but i know that may not be the smartest decision atm, and my boyish hormones screaming (ME WANT CAR GO VROOM!!).

atm even when pay my gym, phone, and insurance and maintenance on my car i still have enough....

but idk just because i have enough money if i should just buy it because i know the insurance will BE MUCH HIGHER for a lotus and the payments for the car will be MUCH higher.

sooo i've been mulling it over and am looking for guidance from someone with much more Wisdom than i.

It's enough to throw payments on a lotus.

ahem . (for a teenager without many expenses) .

saying i still have at least a grand left over or a little less a month.

but it will be alot tighter if i buy the car.

please dont think I think that a person can live on 1500 a month.

cause i mean..

I have a roof over my head for free.
plus atm a car i dont pay for (except for insurance)

by the way, go for it.
but dont get exige S though. they make a supercharged elise now, why not get that instead.
i am assuming the "supercharged elise" will be cheaper that exige S.

I'm in the same situation as you (OP), cept I make a bit more, if I were you, I'd stuff that money in a high interest bank account (that's what I do). You said it yourself, since the economy is bad, why throw money away?

I'd rather keep a car I don't have to make payments on and have that much more extra money in the event I need it or want to go on vacation or something, rather then have another piece of kit that I don't actually need and more or less just spend money for nothing.

Just because you have "lots" of money doesn't mean you have to spend it. That's what a LOT of people do, including people who don't have money, they rack up credit, and then the economy goes to ****.

I'd say save your money for when you actually need something, put it in savings, 2-5 years down the road, you'll have even MORE money, and you'll be glad you saved instead of buying that car. You can always buy one later anyways, but if you suddenly lose the job(s), after getting the new toy, watcha gonna do?

Just my .02

you have a very valid point^

this was an option that i knew was the smarter and more "mature" thing to do.

and is a definite thing im gonna do with at least a chunk of the cash im making.

and your right in the unlikely event that i get fired from ALl 3 jobs id be screwed.

but it is a possibility with all the lay offs happening i could get at least fired from 1 if not 2.

then id be in a real jam.

im gonna keep an eye out on the market, and wait a few months until i make this decision.

-----------------------------

as for the SC elise, they do make them but i was planning on buying used, and there are exiges in the low 40's with very low miles. and thats almost the same price as those brand new lotus' and their much better all around.

i thought about the even high exige model.... but dont have the ***** to tackle the though of insurance and monthlys on THAT MODEL.

but if i could find the "california model elise" it would be nice.

i go to school only 3 times a week.

1st job is weekends (pays alot higher than Min.wage) and sometimes they call me on weekdays. (this is a job at a paintball park being a tech and a ref)

2nd job is working at guess clothing store, they give me enough hours and give a decent wage.

3rd job is selling fitness products online.

And wow snowflake

that hurt my feelings...

and i dont think he even said that.

to be honest with you, i dont really have time to do much else but mod my car, go to the gym once very day or 2, and watch a movie now and then.

one of the biggest steps was promising myself not to get a girlfriend while im in college.

and sometimes i get off of work at the paintball park 8-4 then have to go to guess from 5-10

soo sometimes modding the 8 is my reward for doing all this.

-----------------------------------

there was a question as to why i dont mod the 8 to all hell.

i will but im only gonna spend only probably around 3 grand for everything i want . lip kit, rims, and fly wheel etc etc i've done some of this already.(look at sig)

but I AM very afraid of going FI.... thats something im willing to admit, buy an aftermarket turbo and shoving it on my car would give me the "hibby jibbys"

cause id be afraid of what will happen to my engine..... and it costs alot of money

i wouldn't rely on part time jobs to pay for a 50k car
help your parents out and give them money since they're paying/paid for your car
