Early on Friday morning, the FIA issued a statement insisting it is unmoved by eight major formula one teams' plans to set up a rival series.

The Paris body, led by its controversial president Max Mosley, said it is "disappointed but not surprised" that the protracted negotiations about income, governance and rules ultimately failed.

"The FIA cannot permit a financial arms race in the championship nor can the FIA allow FOTA to dictate the rules of formula one," part of the statement read.

The FIA said Friday's deadline for five FOTA teams to unconditionally sign up for the 2010 season stands, and that a definitive entry list will be published on Saturday.

Due to disputed agreements, it is likely that Ferrari and the Red Bull teams will again be included on the entry list against their will.

F1 team chiefs met on Thursday night at Renault's Enstone headquarters, and issued its statement about a breakaway championship around midnight.

"The FIA is disappointed but not surprised by FOTA's inability to reach a compromise in the best interests of the sport," the FIA continued.

"It is clear that elements within FOTA have sought this outcome throughout the prolonged period of negotiation and have not engaged in the discussions in good faith."



i find it so funny that the FIA just act like this is nothing. their greed destroyed the sport that millions loved. its funny when 2 old guys who dont even race any more dictate what is the best for the teams th at are racing.

It was NFLI, with a couple of teams that played for the EFAF. No NFL europe teams where in italy. Then it split up in 2 federation, the biggest one is now sinking because of the very same greed bernie and max have

Christian Horner on Friday morning said F1's so-called 'supremo' and chief executive Bernie Ecclestone is working hard to solve the political crisis.

Although FOTA's breakaway statement overnight indicated that negotiations with the ruling bodies have ended, Horner - boss of the FOTA member Red Bull Racing - indicated that the situation is still evolving in the Silverstone paddock.

Indeed, FIA president Max Mosley arrived at the Northamptonshire venue at the beginning of Friday practice, and rapidly decamped to Ecclestone's motor home and 30 minutes later had not emerged.

"Bernie is in a situation where his key assets are saying they can't enter. If anybody can deliver a solution to all this, I think he's about the only man who can," Horner told the BBC.

"But it isn't forthcoming at the moment," he added.

It is also clear that the political games are still being played, with rumours that Prodrive, N.Technology and Lola are being courted by FOTA to enter the alternative series.

The latter two prospective FIA entries have already withdrawn their 2010 applications, a day before the governing body publishes its definitive entry list.

One solution being mentioned in the Silverstone paddock is that the FIA World Motor Sport Council could vote to expel Mosley and then rescue the situation by bowing to FOTA's demands.

"It has become very serious," former team owner Eddie Jordan admitted at the circuit, "and heads will roll before this sorts itself out."

Silverstone might as well host a race from the FOTA group. Donnington has a lock on F1 races for 17 yrs.

 

I think you people need to have a yonder at the latest, a breakaway series like we talked about 3 years ago finally.

As the FOTA didn't meet the Friday deadline it seems like the cogs are going to be set in motion.

I agree! And really, they need to go ahead and get on the ball developing the tech rules, picking venues, sporting regs...etc. The FOTA has a **** load of work to do if they think they will be able to run a legit season next year. OH, and I hope the FOTA takes those other teams that didn't make the cut for F1 next year. One good thing though....If Williams stays with the FIA, at least they'll for sure make it consistantly to Q3. Yeah, and maybe get a decent pit stall

 

+1... Heck I'll go even further...ALL the 8 teams will complete a lap and park their cars... ala "Indy format"... This WILL get the arrogant and stubborn Mosley's attention...You'll see Bernie trying to ammend things immediately.

During the U.S. broadcast of Practice #2 this morning, they said if Ferrari isn't racing, Monaco said they wouldn't hold a GP.

 

looks like FIA doesnt want any tv stations that shows F1 races not to talk about the breakaway series. watching qualify, none of the 3 ppl on speed even mentioned anythign about it. which i find is very odd, they love to talk about all the scandals etc thta is going on with teams.

I am up for a new series. i think its time that F1 goes away, even though Max is wiling ot talk. to me, he should of sat down way before they got to this point. plus it seems the FOTA wants to bring back racing to their fans (tickets etc)

 

Some of the tracks were ones that I was thinking would be apart of the new series (Indy, Silverstone, Monaco & Monza). Some others are like wow who thought of these (Lausitzring, Surfer's Paradise and Helsinki). Missing is Japan.
