They sent me a survey a month or two ago and that was one of my replies (to see more of the GT race).

Congrats to the Speedsource 69 team, the entire Mazda world & thanks to Sylvain & Dave for reviving the Mazda dominance only a few short years back! You guys have made us even more proud as owners of a real race winning brand name that can spank Porsche!

Let's hope they don't get us with any more restrictions next season as payback...

They are available through the Grand-Am website. But, the car is a carbon fiber chassie & body. It has a 3 rotor engine with a transaxle transmission. Basically, the only thing that is used from the stock RX8 is the air filter. There was a stock base car run by the Golden brothers out of Florida, but I don't remember it ever running in a race other than the 24hr. I also don't think it ever finished that.

Went to my first Grand-Am race today and it's definitely not my last. Not sure what's taken me so long to go to one.

Lesper: a trip up to Laguna Seca with an RX-8 group would be a BLAST.
Never been to a race though so I'm not sure what to expect.
- how fast to tickets sell out?
- anyone camped there before?

Yup. Mazda Corral's, usually have overnight campers and such at each event. Great time, I always highly recommend it.

Barber Ms Park doesn't have any camping on the site. I doubt the Corral will be given special privileges.

Wow.... only one race in the Series is West of the Mississippi. Disappointing for those of us on the West side of the country.

It is a bummer.
That's why you guys should come over to DIS for the 24.
3 days instead of 1.

I think a long string of RX-8s pulling into the gates would be awesome. I'm down for a road trip... Especially since it is our only race this year in CA.

Agreed. Each venue has it's own rules. The corrals are overnight/camping where it is possible and it makes sense. Free free to ask, they LOVE Mazda fans coming along for it. New England started it with their NEPOC crew at Lime Rock, and it was so successful that Mazda and Grand-Am linked up to do it at as many other tracks as possible

No other fan experience gets you THAT close and into it.

I can speak for Lime Rock, the memorial day weekend events are 4-day events, camping is always on-site.

I liked the dedicated camping area we had at Daytona. I stayed up to 3-4 am one night talking to Swoope. We didn't have that at Mid-Ohio. I another group of owners in the camping area, but there wasn't the larger group sitting around like the previous race.

Not being there this time is a bummer... snowed in big time, too!
I'm told that there is no rain in the forecast, so a good chance for the rotaries to stretch out!

I have the living room prepped to camp out though; Blankets, Camp Chair, Laptop, Headset, DVR, Espresso...
There will be several internet radio stations and team sites to tide us through the overnight "blackout". I'll share as I get more info.

Linda, don't fall asleep!

I have the TRG pit webcam up. The Daytona feed from last year isn't live at this time. I seem to remember they only turned it on when the TV feed was off. Check UStream for these feeds.

Good to see the 8s slowly moving up the field. Starting position was fairly poor. Plenty of time to improve though.

They qualified 2.5 seconds behind the pole Porsche. Looks like GA should give them more revs back.

Too much weight added on the penalty imo. Sure, add it, I understand the need for competition, but....they added enough that there still isn't a competition, just handed it over to the dark side.

They keep making fuel mileage references though. Funny that they commented that the Camero's "weren't getting the mileage of the Porsche's and Mazda's".

I hope they aren't implying that the 8s are getting good mileage. People might get the wrong impression
