Looks like #70 is now only 14 points from first place:

I think that's taking into consideration the final race. The Banner team has been struggling a bit the last 4 races or so.

Keep it up Speedsource!

Georgia Rx8 club had 9 cars come over for the race.
It was easily 100 degrees and muggy. Surprised there weren't more mechanical issues out there than there were.
Motorcycle race early, Skip Barber open wheel race, Miller Mustang race preceded the main event - and all held up well.

A cool note - We have a good relationship with some of the folks at Barber, so they were kind enough to get us 4 passes for the touring/parade laps. We piled in the cars and headed out behind the some seriously nice machinery (lambo's, porsches, ford gt40's, and lots of really well modded/maintained cars)

We only got a few laps, but every time we came down the main straight, the Speedsource drivers were up on the wall and waved to us as we honked back at them. I didn't see any other team out there. Very cool.
Went over to the paddock to thank them, but they were in meetings etc by then.

A very fun (and HOT day).

Yup,
I was actually torn between doing the laps, or getting over to the Speedsource paddock. Knew they would be tied up by the time we got there if we lapped, but the lure of taking some folks out on the track was too much. (I took Trackaddict and his daughter around). We got to get a little speed up in a few turns, and it was neat for me to show her what Dad's student has learned.

Speedsource really does get it. When I have met them, they will spend as much time as they can, and are super nice folks.
And yeah, we had a great time. We are lucky to have a really great group of folks locally. Met some of the Tenn Valley folks too.
Good people seem to surround this car.

Great race for SpeedSource. Nick took the Pontiac in the end and the Porsche just ran out of laps in pursuit.
Still no word on what happened to #69 and why so long in the pits!!! Was hoping for 1-2 Mazda.

You are right they are really great. I know that they appreciate our support and it means a lot to them when they hear us cheering at the podium ceremonies.

Yeah. Very nice guys who seem to really like the Mazda community's support. Nick Ham gave us a personal overview of the 70 car as it was being worked on in the paddock at Mid Ohio. Pretty entertaining guy (maybe it's just the accent).

His first question to us was what the most common mod rx8 owners make to their cars (clear corner ftw! ). Also talked about the MAP switch that is used for different race settings and how they used position 1 and position 2 and he had no idea whatsoever position 3 did. So when the call from the pits comes in for him to switch to position 3 he'll have no idea what will happen but if they tell him to do it he'll do it.

(He makes the same joke in that interview linked above so he must know it's a good one)

Awesome job speedsource! I had to leave half way though the race but i could see that Ham was driving great! i noticed the 69 car too just sitting there in the pits.

It seems that the comentators only cover GT because of a contractural requirement otherwise they would forget about them all together. you would think since they are similar to road cars they would get more coverage but maybe DP brings in more money to the sport.

It would be nice to see SpeedSource take the GT class win this season.

Seems like the weight increase imposed on the Pontiac's a couple races back was definitely legit. The Porsches, Pontiacs and Mazdas all seem to have a legitimate shot at winning races now.

Man, am I just blind when I can't find the video that was following one of the RX-8's while another one got clipped by a prototype because he went too high?

Don't forget (like I do at times) to tune in 8:00PM (EDT) tomorrow on SPEED.
It's tape delayed, Begins at 4:45, so go to the Grand-Am site if you can't stand the suspense...

Damn, #70 just missed out on back to back... to back victories. Finished 2nd at Circuit Gilles. Just 6 points behind in the leader standings, Nice!

SpeedSource was really fortunate with this one. I think they (the #70) were something like 8th place in the last lap. All the other cars in front of them started to run out of gas, including the class-leader Pontiac #07. Congrats to SpeedSource!
