ANDRETTI GREEN RACING

Andretti Green Racing enters the 2008 American Le Mans Series season seeking to improve on a 2007 season that saw a memorable LMP2 class win and overall second-place finish at the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring and two other podium finishes. For 2008, the team will field a revamped lineup with a new Acura ARX- 01b and 2007’s lead driver Bryan Herta being joined by Christian Fittipaldi for the full season. Andretti Green Racing is a three-time IndyCar Series champion and winner of the 2005 and 2007 Indianapolis 500 races. Off track, the team has built a sponsor base that includes more than 40 corporate and technical partners whos annual revenue combine for more than $300 billion.

BK Motorsports

Following a terrific first season in the American Le Mans Series in 2005, B-K Motorsports endured somewhat of a sophomore jinx for 2006. All eyes are focused toward the future however as the team is preparing for 2007 with a revamped program featuring Mazda power and a Lola B07/40 chassis for all 12 rounds. B-K Motorsports partnered with Mazda to make its return to top-level endurance racing in 2005 and scored an LMP2 class win in just its second race at Mid-Ohio. In 2006, the team scored a season-best, runner-up finish on the streets of Houston and expects to record its best season with its new package.

DE FERRAN MOTORSPORTS

Gil de Ferran’s De Ferran Motorsports announced in January that will enter the American Le Mans Series’ LMP2 class with an Acura ARX-01b, the fourth Acura prototype on the Series grid for 2008. In addition to ownership of the Acura factory-backed organization, de Ferran will return to the cockpit as the team’s primary driver of the ARX-01b. De Ferran is a former Indianapolis 500 winner and two-time CART Champ Car champion. De Ferran is venturing into team ownership after serving as Sporting Director for the Honda Formula One racing team from 2005 to 2007. His most recent competition in a race car came at Texas Motor Speedway on October 12, 2003, when he drove to victory for Team Penske in the IndyCar season finale.

DYSON RACING

Dyson Racing turned back the clock in 2007 with its move to Porsche and two of its RS Spyders in LMP2. It marked a reunion in top-level sports car racing as Rob Dyson made his prototype debut with a Porsche 962 in 1985. Dyson Racing’s relationship with Porsche covered seven seasons and resulted in 12 victories in IMSA GTP. North America’s leading sports car team, Dyson Racing is preparing for its 34th year in motorsports and 25th at the professional level, a span that has produced 16 championships, 61 victories, 55 pole positions and 163 podiums. For 2008, the team again plans to campaign two Porsche RS Spyders for the full 12-round schedule with primary drivers Chris Dyson, Marino Franchitti, Butch Leitzinger and Guy Smith. Since entering the Series in 1999, Dyson Racing has recorded four overall victories, nine class wins and 16 overall pole positions.

LOWE'S FERNANDEZ RACING

Lowe’s Fernandez Racing’s freshman year in the American Le Mans Series proved to be a successful one with the Acura-powered Lola B05/40 yielding three podium finishes including a second-place class finish at the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring. For the 2008 season, the team will make the switch to the Acura ARX-01b, the latest chassis version designed at Honda Performance Development. Team owner and driver Fernandez will again team with fellow countryman Luis Diaz to pilot the No. 15. The team’s debut in the Series follows a successful inaugural season of sports car competition for Lowe’s Fernandez Racing, which was established in 2006.

PENSKE RACING

Penske Racing’s second full season in the American Le Mans Series was a success as the team claimed its second LMP2 championship and drivers titles for Romain Dumas and Timo Bernhard. The Penskeprepared Porsche RS Spyders made history by claiming eight overall victories and for 2008, Penske will be back in the American Le Mans Series with two Porsche RS Spyders. Penske Racing was formed in 1966 and won the USRRC title in 1967. The team went on to win Can- Am championships in 1972-73. More than 30 years later, Penske announced in April 2005 that it planned to re-enter professional sports car racing at the highest level, working again with Porsche to field a two-car team in the American Le Mans Series. Penske has one of the most consistent and successful records at Sebring, having won twice in class as a driver and three times in class as a car owner.

VAN DER STEUR RACING

Van der Steur Racing is targeting a partial season in the American Le Mans Series for 2008 with its AERpowered Radical SR9 in the highly competitive LMP2 class. The independent team will see team owner Gunnar van der Steur partnering with Adam Pecorari with the team setting its sights on a season debut at the Acura Sports Car Challenge of St. Petersburg. Van der Steur Racing acquired the Radical chassis in late 2006 and appeared in three races in 2007 while experiencing teething problems with the Radical. With marques like Porsche, Acura, Lola and Mazda along with teams such as Andretti Green Racing, Highcroft, Lowe’s Fernandez, Penske, Intersport and B-K, van der Steur is looking forward to etching its name beside some of the elite names in motorsports.

P1

AUDI SPORT NORTH AMERICA

Audi Sport North America continued to build its American Le Mans Series résumé in 2007 with a sweep of all 12 Series rounds and its fifth LMP1 championship. One of the most dominating teams in the 10-year history of the Series, Audi Sport North America has posted 45 class victories and a record 22 in a row dating back to Sebring in 2006. That was the race that Audi made motorsports history by winning for the first time with the dieselpowered Audi R10 TDI, a prototype that represented a new wave of technology into the Series. Using diesel power, Audi Sport North America has captured the three biggest races on the endurance calendar in each of the past two seasons: the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, the 24 Hours of Le Mans and Petit Le Mans. With a twocar lineup set for 2008, Audi Sport North America will look to further rewrite sports car racing’s history book with its core group of drivers that includes defending P1 champions Dindo Capello and Allan McNish, along with Lucas Luhr and Marco Werner.

AUTOCON MOTORSPORTS

Coming off a second-place finish in the American Le Mans Series’ 2007 LMP1 championship, Autocon Motorsports is embarking on what should turn out to be its biggest season in the American Le Mans Series. The team moved to a Judd-powered Creation prototype prior to last year’s Utah Grand Prix, and the move paid off with its second consecutive class podium finish at Lime Rock Park and an automatic berth into the 2008 24 Hours of Le Mans. The team plans to compete for the majority of the 12-race schedule with its Creation- Judd package on Dunlop tires. Series veterans Michael Lewis, Chris McMurry and Bryan Willman once again will share primary duties with the trio counting more than 100 American Le Mans Series starts between them with six victories and more than 40 podium finishes. They also will be occasionally joined by Tony Burgess and Tomy Drissi.

INTERSPORT RACING

One of the founding teams of the American Le Mans Series, Intersport Racing has established itself as one of the premier independent teams in sports car racing. The Dublin, Ohio-based team has taken on the mightiest factory teams in the past two seasons and has posted three class wins (including 2006 at Sebring) during that timespan. Intersport holds the record for most LMP2/P675 class wins in the history of the American Le Mans Series with 20. Team owner Clint Field won the 2005 P2 class championship, three years after father Jon accomplished the same feat. In 2008, the two again will team with Richard Berry (of Very Berry Exotics) over the course of the season. Intersport also will become the first prototype team in the American Le Mans Series to campaign on cellulosic E85, a pioneering effort in the Series' Green Racing initiative.

TEAM CYTOSPORT

Team Cytosport competed in five races during the 2007 season with team owner/driver Greg Pickett and Klaus Graf claiming four podiums in the LMP1 class in an AER-powered Lola B06/10. The team will begin its 2008 season with the Le Mans Series in Europe and return to American Le Mans Series competition following the 24 Hours of Le Mans with commitments from former Trans-Am champions Klaus Graf and Greg Pickett. Pickett is founder of Benicia, CA-based Cytosport, a manufacturer of sports-oriented nutritional supplements.

GT1

BELL MOTORSPORTS

Jim Bell and Bell Motorsports will return to the GT1 class of the American Le Mans Series with an Aston Martin DBR9 for a full-season battle against Corvette Racing. Bell is one of the most prominent names in sports car racing with 30 years of experience. He has worked on successful Series teams including Alex Job Racing, ACEMCO Motorsports and most recently Team Trans Sport in 2007. He also assisted in the overall win for the Kremer Porsche 935 at Le Mans in 1979. Michael *** is a semi-retired businessman whose career expands more than 40 years in the founding, developing and launching of successful companies in the home furnishing industry. He is currently the CEO of Lifestyle Innovations, a distributor and marketer of oso*fresh food storage containers, which he founded in 2005.

CORVETTE RACING

The most successful team in the history of the American Le Mans Series, Corvette Racing looks to further enhance its endurance racing legacy in 2008. The two-car factory effort will lead a pioneering effort by campaigning on cellulosic E85 as it enhances the Series’ platform of alternative fuels. The winner of the last seven GT1 championships, Corvette Racing has posted a record 61 class wins, 44 1-2 team finishes and swept all 12 rounds in the 2007 season. Corvette Racing’s stable of drivers have excelled on the international sports car racing stage with a combined 13 American Le Mans Series championships, 17 Le Mans victories and 22 class triumphs at Sebring. Working in conjunction with GM Racing engineers, Pratt & Miller is responsible for construction, testing, development and trackside support for Corvette Racing.

GT2

BLACK SWAN RACING

Under the new banner of Black Swan Racing, Tim Pappas’ racing program will embark on its second season of American Le Mans Series competition in the highly competitive GT2 class. The team, formerly Team Trans Sport and now based in Boston, will field a new Ford GT-R and will be involved with Falken Tires, a new manufacturer coming to the Series. Black Swan Racing is led by successful Boston real estate developer Tim Pappas, a leading gentleman driver who will team with former Series winner Anthony Lazzaro. The environmentally conscious team debuted its Ford GT-R at Lime Rock Park.

CORSA MOTORSPORTS

With full support from the Ferrari factory, Corsa Motorsports is returning to the GT2 grid of the American Le Mans Series. The Steve Pruett-owned team will campaign a Ferrari F430 GT along with tire partner Hankook, which is entering the Series for the first time. Corsa Motorsports is based in Sandy, Utah and uses the expansive Miller Motorsports Park, site of the Utah Grand Prix, as its home base. For 2008, Pruett has signed Gunnar Jeannette and Johnny Mowlem as primary drivers for the GT2 championship. Pruett is an amateur racer with a long history including driving a Ferrari F430 Challenge car in 2006. He is the owner of EquiWest, a Utah-based commercial real estate development firm and the former president of Triad America Corporation.

DRAYSON-BARWELL

With an eye towards preparing for the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2009, Drayson-Barwell will enter the American Le Mans Series for the first time in 2008. The team will field a new Aston Martin Vantage GT2 car in the GT2 class from Long Beach onwards (and prior to that its FIA GT3-specification Aston Martin DBRS9) - an entry fuelled by E85 Bio-Ethanol as the Series expands its alternative energy platform. The team, operating as Barwell Motorsport, has previously competed in the FIA GT (GT1) and British GT Championships, claiming the '07 British GT Teams' Championship and '06 GT3 Drivers Championship titles with its Aston Martin DBRS9s. Drivers Jonny Cocker and Paul Drayson, a former British Government Minister for Defence Procurement and a member of the House of Lords, finished overall runners-up in the 2007 British GT Championship standings in their E85 bio-ethanol DBRS9, and scored the first ever British national series race win for an alternative-fuelled car. Drayson-Barwell is an official partner team of Aston Martin Racing.

FARNBACHER LOLES RACING

A name familiar to sports car endurance racing on both sides of the Atlantic, Farnbacher Loles is targeting a multi-car effort in 2008 for the American Le Mans Series. Building off the successes it has achieved at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and in Europe, the team will enter GT2, arguably the most competitive of the American Le Mans Series’ four classes. Farnbacher Loles also will continue its association with IMSA by fielding and preparing multiple cars in the IMSA Challenge by Michelin for 2008.

FLYING LIZARD MOTORSPORTS

2008 will be Flying Lizard Motorsports’ fifth consecutive season in the American Le Mans Series, competing in the GT2 class in Porsche GT3 RSRs. Since its first year of competition in 2004, the team has finished in the top three in the Series’ GT2 team and drivers’ championships. In 2007, in the Flying Lizard No. 45, the duo of Johannes van Overbeek and Jörg Bergmeister challenged the No. 62 Risi Ferrari to a memorable, season-long contest in GT2. Three race wins, including the flagship 1,000-mile Petit Le Mans, were not enough to clinch the title, and the No. 45 and the team were second in the championships. Flying Lizard is back in force in 2008 for the full American Le Mans Series season with a three-car effort. The team also expects to compete in the 2008 24 Hours of Le Mans, its fourth consecutive entry at the renowned event.

LG MOTORSPORTS/RILEY TECHNOLOGIES

On and off the racetrack, LG Motorsports is a familiar name in terms of racing and performance. Owned by professional driver Lou Gigliotti, LG Motorsports announced in October its plans to enter the GT2 class of the American Le Mans Series in 2008 in partnership with Riley Technologies. Gigliotti is a three-time champion in SPEED World Challenge GT and has a rich history of competing with a variety of cars within the Corvette brand. Riley Technologies brings the highest level of engineering excellence to their products worldwide, and is looking forward to not only entering the fray Stateside, but also to the wide market in which the new Corvette can compete. Riley Technologies, LLC was formed by famed designers Bob and Bill Riley, the company originally founded in 1990 as Riley & Scott Inc. In 2001 Bob and Bill Riley formed Riley Technologies, which has continued producing championship-winning race cars and teams.

PANOZ TEAM PTG

Tom Milner’s Prototype Technology Group is returning with the Panoz brand to the American Le Mans Series GT2 class with two Panoz Esperante GTLMs. Team PTG has a rich history in the Series, having captured the 1999 GT team championship along with five all-time GT2 class victories. The team returned to the Series for the 2003 Petit Le Mans, but 2006 marked its first full-season campaign since 2001. Along with longtime tire partner Yokohama, Panoz Team PTG has its sights set on returning to past glory in the Series.

PRIMETIME RACE GROUP

Primetime Race Group debuted in the American Le Mans Series in 2007 with a Dodge Viper Competition Coupe in the highly competitive GT2 class at the Detroit Sports Car Challenge presented by Bosch. The team, with drivers Joel Feinberg and Chapman Ducote, also competed at Petit Le Mans and the Monterey Sports Car Championships in preparation for a full championship schedule in 2008. Primetime, owned by Feinberg, also has competed in SPEED World Challenge and IMSA Lites, finishing third in the L1 class in 2007.

RAHAL LETTERMAN RACING (only pic they have of this car. most likely we will see a updated car soon)

After fielding a Porsche 911 GT3 RSR in GT2 for the 2007 season, Rahal Letterman Racing announced in February that will field the BMW M3 in IMSA’s GT2S class with a scheduled debut for Petit Le Mans before launching a two-car effort for the 2009 season. A winner at Sebring and in the Can-Am era, Rahal won three CART championships and a win at the Indy 500 in 1986 as a driver. His team, co-owned by late-night legend David Letterman has been nearly as prolific. In its first season in the American Le Mans Series, Rahal Letterman posted five podium finishes in the last seven races including third-place showings at Petit Le Mans and the Monterey Sports Car Championships to close out the season. The team’s best showings were runnerup finishes at Lime Rock and Road America.

Headquartered outside of Atlanta, Tafel Racing finished third in the highly competitive GT2 class points championship claiming six podium finishes including second place at Petit Le Mans and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. German young gun Dominik Farnbacher will return to the team to co-pilot the No. 71 with Dirk Mueller, the 2007 FIA GT Series GT2 class champion. Allan Simonsen, the 2007 Australian GT Championship winner, will join Jim Tafel in the No. 73 Ferrari.

Alfy great thread starter!

And that no V10 and V12's allowed in the ALMS is going to be a thorn in alot of manufactures side... but if you think about you really don't need a big motor like that to run.At St. Peterburg Fl this year I noticed the Compuserve Corvettes were right up there with the Audis at top speed on the back stretch. If the Corvettes were almost a 1/4 into the back stretch and the Audis were coming off the last turn onto the back stretch, the Audis ran the Corvettes down, but at top speed the Vettes were right there with the Audis. They never passed them like the two Corvettes were standing still , now of course when both the Corvette or LMP1 car came off the last turn onto the back stretch the LMP1 literally rocketed away from the Corvette with ease.

So a V10 and V12 gives you a massive acceleration advantage , but top speed isn't really that noticable esepcially when you have a realy well built V8 like those Compuserve Corvettes.

Still no news on the rotaries being let back in.....

the article says that Audi and Puegot welcome the changes....

I can see the FIAs decision to do this with turbo'd V8s and V6's they invite more manufacturers to participate in the Prototype class and develope technology for production... this plays right in sinc with CAFE regulations that are promoting the development of high mpg efficient engines...
I see this as an exciting development since the technology will only trickle down into production vehicles....
They ll keep up the pace ,,, remember years ago F1 was full a mixed array of engine options at one point thry had turbo'd 4cylinders pumping out over 900hp...

Hey, the rotaires arent banned. A 3 rotor R20B in a proper race car like a Lola coupe thats BK is about to debut would be quite competitive with the new LMP2 rules.

Its gonna be like Grand-AM GT class, we might see many different types of engiens running in LMP2 if they do pass the rule. Also the competition won't be as intense as Acura, Porsche, Audi, Peouget will be competing in LMP1.

edit: GREAT thread, we actually had a LMP2 thread but it died down when Mazda switched to piston power.... =/

Is it me or is the greenhouse on the Mazda seem a bit high?
+1 on the lights too...

*Reminder* Everybody don't forget to watch the 12 hour of Petit lemans at Road Atlanta Oct. 4th!
Its being hosted by Mazda, and correct me if i am wrong, I think Mazda was going to debut the new LMP2 closed cockpit race car. Don't know if it will be raced that day, but I will try and look up some information about it. Race will be shown on the Speed Network.

Peugeot is up to something nice. most likey its going to be for the ELMS. but cant wait to see it in action, if they decide to go witht his car.

Peugeot Sport revealed a 908 Hdi FAP equipped with a hybrid power plant featuring a kinetic energy recovery system at the final round of the 2009 Le Mans Series in Silverstone this weekend. Wearing a possible new silver and gray livery, the 908HY uses a 60 kW gear-driven electric motor-generator set in place of the conventional starter motor, 10 lithium-ion battery packs which are positioned in the cockpit and on the left-hand side of the floor pan, and an electronic power converter (located in the rear part of the front left wing) which controls the flow of energy between the batteries and the motor-generator.

The result is enhanced performance which translates into an additional boost of 60 kW (80 bhp) for approximately 20 seconds per lap, either automatically when re-accelerating or when the driver chooses to make use of it (‘push to pass’). Another benefit is increased fuel economy between three and five percent for the equivalent level of performance thanks to the mechanical energy recovered.

Michel Barge (Peugeot Sport, Director): “This hybrid 908 HDi FAP is in perfect keeping with the overall mission of our endurance racing programme which covers not only the challenge of competing, of course, but also the fact that as a car manufacturer we can use motor sport as a research and development tool for the Peugeot brand as a whole. After innovating through the use of our HDi FAP technology in competition, running a hybrid car in endurance racing would give Peugeot a chance to gain extremely valuable experience that would benefit the development of production cars. Whether we use this technology or not in 2009 will obviously depend on the details of the new regulations published by the Automobile Club de l’Ouest.”

The car looks great, not sure about its speed out of the box yet though. The first practice session the car was still at the bottom of the P2 class. Hopefully they are still tweaking things though.

NICEST guys in the world. I am very close w/Leh Keen and know all the guys he's raced with and such.

The Peugeot car is going to be nasty. Although, It'll be interesting to see if it really is as/more quiet than the Audi car!
