Original post date of the above mentioned rx9 was 11.4.2010. I think we've heard other news since then.

If you follow the RX8Blog you would know that over the past few years they have been the most accurate source of updates and developments seemingly directly from Mazda. Every prediction from show cars to new engine development to ending of RX8, they were months ahead, and the first to reveal it, and they have gotten it right EACH TIME. And no one from Mazda has denied this leak.

I called Mazda USA in California and talked to a source ( I used to race RX7s with Mazda factory help and many contacts made over the decades) and they seem to indicate a car is indeed coming together with the biggest hurdles being new tougher emissions, weight reduction and fuel economy. Car will be direct injected, patent for this was already issued a while back. This will help the fuel economy and is better suited for supercharging in a rotary. Back in my racing days, we had to use hand-built side-ported rotary racing engines from Racing Beat that had low compression rotors to withstand the high boost pressures of our turbo chargers. Engines would put out 350-450 horsepower depending on fuel and ignition mapping from just a two-rotor 13B. Used only CAM2 racing fuel, and even though it is not recommended now, we used synthetic AMSOIL oil for racing durability. We could run a whole season on one engine while our chief rivals, the Zs and TR8s and Porsches had to change engines every other race.

Have owned six rotary Mazdas since the seventies.

It is an RX8 blog and they have their opinion about the waning popularity of the car. I am a career journalist and the truth is important whether or not it always embraces my own enthusiasm for the car. New European emissions AND low sales after early model years engine problems help kill this great car. I will keep and enjoy mine nonetheless, just like you and host of other enthusiasts, but will probably be in line for the new one.

Mazda is spending all its rotary development money on the 16X rotary direct-injected engine. It is 1.6 liters, vs the 1.3 liters of the Renesis engine. Larger combustion area, better fuel delivery with direct injection (as in the Mazdaspeed3 GT engine- direct injection allows the engine to handle greater boost pressures safely for more power, while keeping longevity for the engine). That will allow Mazda to supercharge this engine for more horsepower, and yet still get 20% better fuel economy than the Renesis engine. The new car will use design themes from the latest Shinara show car. Knowing Mazda , don't expect it to use the RX8 badge again. It will be a RX9 and not a RX7. Mazda will want a new car with its own aura. I am not so sure Mazda will ever do the suicide doors again, but if weight can be held down, a 2+2 is a better sell in the marketplace, but don't expect it to have the room of the RX8. Mazda is committed to going smaller and lighter to take advantage of the power to weight ratio to make a 300hp car a leader in its class.

There are people on rx8club with inside info that we all know we can trust. You seem to be pushing this blog like you have a stake in it. Is it yours? Do you submit articles to it? Also I see a few blog posts that were copied from rx8club threads (with credit given to the thread author and rx8club).

Maybe they figure that the more hype they build, the more likely that it will be produced?
Otherwise, you're right... just a bunch of "Buzz Words" for a quick sale article based on vaporware.

It can't be defined as "vaporware" until Mazda makes some sort of announcement. So far, everything is magazine and fan based speculation.

It is certainly coming, Mazda is spending a ton of money to hit a home run with this car, and have it be the Mazda flagship going forward. I have it from a longtime friend and reliable source at Mazda in California.

You can choose to believe it or not. This same sources have let me know about each upcoming rotary model, in advance, and I have been first in line with my order. RX3, RX4, RX7, RX7 Turbo II, RX7 twinturbo, RX8 40th Anniversary edition. I will be there first in line for this RX9 for sure. Look for it on sale in 2013 not 2014.

Anyone read that R&T article? They called our engine the "Genesis". Lol! Yes, part of the RENESIS name is derived from that word, but that's not it. Come on now Road and Track!

"There are reports that Mazda's rotary engine development team has grown from 30 members to 60 members in the last year..." isn't really a 'hard fact, is it'? It's only hearsay, or something based on hearing/reading something rather than on personal knowledge.

If it said, "Mazda says the development team has grown from 30 members to 60 members in the last year..." that would be stating a hard fact.

Maybe you know more .. something directly from Mazda...? ...can you give it up?

There were close to 40 members 6 months ago and that is information from a member of the team directly. Would you like me to ask him to do an accurate head count?

Paul.

^No but you could ask him, "How's the project going... and are there any teasers he's willing to share?

What Paul said exactly . What R&T said is accurate- whether it came straight from mazda or they heard it through the grapevine. Frankly since it was written by Sam Mitani it tells me he was told directly.

I believe I can speak for Paul when I say that we wouldn't consider asking for and divulging information on the interweb that would compromise our friends job.
