200 hp in the LX and 400 hp in the GTO along with the TQ difference of course any driver can do good well in any weather

He had almost 20K miles on his car, and said the engine was still loosening up and making more power. Now that I have over 15K miles, I believe him. That LS2 just keeps getting stronger and stronger. It's crazy. 660 miles? Dude. You're nowhere near broken in. Just wait til the first jump that comes about 1500-2000. You will notice it. Then another around 5K, 10K. SEG all over again. Also, I don't know if you've been driving around in the heat, but the LS2's HATE anything over 85 degrees. GM definitely doesn't want their engines pinging. The first 50-60 degree day you get, you'll be saying "What in the hell possessed this engine??". It's freakishly mean at 60 degrees.
Yea, my homes are close to the ocean so I get a lot of cool breezes going. It is never really above 75 except in mid summer at 1:00 o'clock (it's parked then anyways for classes).

So have you done any mods to your car yet? I don't have a whole lot of money to spend on modding the car, but I really want to spice up the exterior a little bit. The SAP looks good, but I don't want the four exhaust. I like just the two massive ones.

No, those are the stock 18" wheels - I didn't care too much for the stock 17's. I got one of the first '05 GTOs with the 18's. They were introduced mid-year last year. Funny thing is that they're wrapped in 235/40 18 Potenza RE-040's. I can't seem to recall what other car has that brand of tires... hmm....
I changed two of them out at 10K miles for Kumho MX's after the rears got a little low on tread. Can't figure how those tires got bald either!

One of the guys in our group had the SAP ground effects installed except kept the rear fascia and wing stock. Looks good!
I've done a few minor mods - x-pipe, and muffler delete, K&N drop-in, good for maybe 10 or 15 horses. I'm still undecided on which way I'm going to go with it. I've had a 100 dry shot halo nitrous kit saved in a cart, and haven't clicked "buy" yet. It's extremely tempting, because the LSx motors love the juice and over 500 crank hp with 550 lb-ft of torque must be a blast! You're getting damn close to Viper quick with that one little mod. A better alternative would be longtube headers, heads, cam, ported intake and throttle body, CAI, and tune. That should get me around 450-500 rwhp NA, but at more cost. The L92 heads and L76 intake are an exciting and very reasonably priced option, but are not proven at this point. Search LS1Tech about that. It's the "buzz" right now...

I noticed that nzarnow's manual has the same style of wheels as my auto does where as you have a different style of wheels than we do.
So what was the reasoning behind the two sizes of tires and two versions of wheels?

I just assumed that the 17's were on the autos and 18's on the manual versions. or do they all come w/17's now?

The 18's were just a $495 option you could get. They came on either the auto or the manual for the last half of '05 or all of '06. They're actually just one of the Monaro wheels - the Aussies have about 10 different wheels for the Monaro... even 19's.

Yax, those wheels look pretty good. They show off the brake calipers well. Do you like the 04-05 tail lights or do you like the 06 better? I guess the earlier ones go well with your red though.

I don't want to do anything to the engine really untill I can go all the way. I don't want to only put a couple hundred into the engine. Go big or go home I guess. What I really wanted to do was after my warrenty expired, drop an LS7 into it. Maybe at around 75k miles if I still have the car.

For now I think I will just do SAP to the front only and the red sticker for the rear bumber. (Black on red is so freaking awesome.)

Yax, and Tigger, you guys need to post pictures of your car. I want to see the outside and interior for you Tigger since you are stock and an extra engine shot from you Yax.

The RX-8 club needs to have a GTO sub forum!

Haha, I know. I'm kidding. I can't remember who said it first though after Tigger got his and I mentioned that I was in the process of trading my RX-8 for a GTO. One of the mods or someone with a high post count...

Nice car, i was considering GTO before this car but i like the look of 8 little better, there are like no GTO's around here i see 1 once in a blue moon plus ppl get them confused with rest of pontiac lineup cars since front end is similar, but its an awsome sleeper car if you dont know if its a LS2 GTO.
P.S. If GM will produce camaro that is 90% of concept that thing will be a monster if new Camaro SS will be released

I posted a link here to my pics(click on thumbnails) from my GTO thread. I was in a hurry when I posted those. I didn't want to have to resize or host them. I think this weekend I may take some better shots and add them to my thread.

It's all swoope's fault.

Hey nz. Your goat looks like it sits higher than mine, that was one of the first things I noticed. Is there a difference in suspension or something on the '06's?

Uh... I did say MODDED and the hp ratings for a stock 1990 302 were not 200hp anyway. It was rated 205-225hp and 275-300 ft-lbs torque. Never dynoed the car, but with headers, hi flow cats, x-pipe, cat-back, intake, intake manifold, Al drive shaft, and shorter rear end... PLUS the car only weighs 2834 vs 3,725 for the GTO... it weighs almost a 1,000lbs more! It is a perfectly valid compairson.

Oh yah, the LX 5.0 coupes were amazingly light. I know a couple people that are trying to track down a few that are still in good shape, throw a couple thousand dollars at them, and turn them into monsters. Neat cars. Unfortunately, a bunch of them are rust buckets now, but I never dismiss an LX when I see them out on the road.

I don't think there is a difference. It could just be the perspective of the camera. I am 6 foot 5 and was standing on my grass.

Plus mine is just better than yours.

I looked at the GTO. I hated the way it handled. Great power and torque. I love cars that handle like the 8. but that is why they make all kinds of cars.

I did get playing around with a GTO a couple of months ago. He would pull away a bit in the straights, but could never realy get away. (Although I am sure I was working twice as hard as he was.) In the corners, I was ALL over him. In fact I almost ran into him a couple of times. I think he was over braking even for a GTO. Eventualy the curves came too fast for him to even pull away a little. At the end of the road he stopped and chatted about the cars. He was impressed that my 8 could about keep up in the straights. I let him know that I was working my 8 hard to do it.

Had any luck finding wheels yet? I'm finding very few choices available, especially in wider sizes.

So far I'm leaning towards the Monaro VZ's. I like the beefy look.

A buddy of mine drives a GTO. To me, the outside is a bore, but everything else is great. I followed him one day to his house and he punched it and I tried to catch up. Having an AT 8 really made that difficult. He said that he was cruising at 135 and i started to catch him. Oh yeah, the extra 200lbs of speaker/box in the trunk hurt me too. I am very impressed with their speed and acceleration. Now, if they made it look better...

No joke... if the GTO had been given a better exterior (same everything else)... GM would have had a hard time meeting demand.
