Next Scion TC will be RWD Toyota/Subie car
With those hp figures im really wondering what the weight of these will be. If the base 220hp model is anywhere near the current TC's weight (of course some weight gain is expected), it should prove interesting to say the least. I cant see it being as heavy as the Genesis, so, it should put up good numbers.

The automotive industry has it's fingers everywhere. Encouraging development from competitors is actually a very common Japanese business practice that has 100s of articles written about it. But this is not as uncommon as you think. Many of the cars out there today are simply rebadge brands from another manufacturs. Especially companies that don't regularly import to the US (like Vauxhall).
I'm really excited about this. Actually I'm kind of pissed because I won't be able to own one right off but I'm still excited they are making it. I wish I just had $200 to spend on cars. I don't know if I'd buy one ultra fast car or a whole bunch of mid line cars I really like.

Like a schizophrenic love affair, the on-again, off-again Subaru/Toyota rear-wheel drive coupe is apparently off again. That morsel of sobering news comes via Detroit Free Press columnist Mark Phelan, who says that both automakers now admit that the project has been put on hold. The inexpensive 2+2 sports coupes had been the subject of much speculation and a seemingly infinite number of renderings, and in fact what looked to be an early prototype had been spotted last year.
Many enthusiasts were hoping that the car would signal Toyota's intent to return to the performance heritage of the AE86 Corolla, while Subaru stood to benefit from having a sportier-bodied, less expensive coupe than the WRX (although the car's RWD configuration was seemingly at odds with the company's all-wheel drive ethos).
In any case, the goal of a pair of 2011 sports coupes has evidently fallen by the wayside as yet another victim of the global financial crisis. Despite this development, Toyota maintains its small stake in Subaru, and the two automakers will continue joint production of the Camry in Subaru's Lafeyette, Indiana facility.

i would think toyota would of learned their lesson by now. their tc is selling like hot cakes, so its pretty obivoius that this car will also. i guess they will stick to their cookiecutter ways.
i am a big toyota fan, but they keep putting out these boring 20k FF cars and let lexus have all the fun. done ranting. btw thanks for the news jrichter lol

^ Yeah, modern-day Toyota is way too conservative these days (not sure how much of a role Subaru played in the axing/indefinite hold). I know the economy is an issue but a small, sporty, economical small car for the future still makes sense to me for Toyota and Subaru.
Last time I checked US Toyota has like 8-9 various suv's/crossover's in their lineup (exaggeration intended by an anti-suv person) not including the Scion boxes. There's definitely room for this car and I see future (or now) competition for it. I here of people all the time looking for a decent small car that doesn't scream economy in the looks department and their is not much on offer.
It may cost some money now to finish development, but the earlier you can get a car of this nature for sale guarantees a good following/legacy further down the road such as w/ Silvia and the RWD Truenos and helps associate the brand with sportiness again and younger generation again. Subaru needs a coupe in their lineup again and would get sales from the one's who just wouldn't settle for sedan sportiness.

toyota has been helping subaru for a few years now. they first got together when subie needed some help getting its factory in the US in order. then Toyota was supposed to start supplying small cars for Subaru in Europe. There was Camry production being done at the Subaru plant and then this co-vehicle.
