I just bought a new Dodge Ram 1500. After all the rebates I was able to get $9500 off sticker making it a $25K truck versus a $34,500 truck. With the Hemi motor, towing and hauling is not a problem. I had considered the new Toyota Tundra but they weren;t willign to deal like I wanted.

Cant really go wrong with a chevy truck. My dad has owned multiple, and each were great. He owned 1 ford ranger, and it was a POS.

definitely get a full-size one, skip those useless compact pickups like the Ranger, especially since you want to tow your car

+1 for full size. I am not up on current trucks anymore, but I would not go for an extended cab if you don't need it. I had an 87 chevy pickup. long bed, one bench in the front. I could carry an incredible amount of stuff, including a piano at one point. the small trucks and those with extended cabs just seem pointless to me unless it is only small things you are looking to carry.

I think a full size with an extended cab (not crew cab) is the way to go. The suicide doors of the extended cab free up a lot of space up front and can hold people if need be. Also, you don't lose much bed room though.

I agree the the small pickups with crew cabs (4 doors) are a waste because they don't hold people very well (cramped) or stuff (small bed/not enough power)

All told, I had a 2001 extended cab f-150 that I loved. Simple, but to the point. I've heard many good things about the new f-150's, but don't know too much about the other trucks out there now (I will say though, that new Tundra looks badass).

the new Tundra looks AWESOME but I doubt many places are willing to deal on them.

Nissan Titans are nice and cheap. Are you looking for new or used?

With the new Tundra out, lots and lots of comparion tests. So far the new Chevy is coming out on top on all of them. Tundra and Titan run 2nd/3rd depending on test and Dodge is dead last.

DON'T get a Dodge.

I hear the new Fords have a handlebar on the back. That way you can push it easier when it breaks down...

I have owned Fords, Chevys and now a Dodge truck - I wouldn't consider either a Ford or Chevy. I am very pleased with my Dodge. I would have bought a Toyoa Tundra but the dealership apparently wanted to keep it on their lot more than I wanted to take it home - they wouldn't deal. Of course as long as people are stupid enough to pay sticker for a new vehicle then I guess they don't need to deal.

I'm sure you're happy with your purchase, but collectively the automotive journalists and critics say that the Dodge has fallen behind the competition. Chrysler products today are in a very sad state.

I'd buy a Silverado, Tundra or Titan (only if the Titan has improved to average reliability from the first couple ugly years).

i for one would not take any advice about trucks on a rotary forum.....mostly because anyone who replies to this thread would not know wtf they're talking about. every manufacturer's got problems, some you're willing to deal with, some you won't.

seeing how you'll be using your truck to tow, figure out what all them acronyms mean and which manufacturer advertises their tow rating most accurately...then go onto those forums and search for towing and any other subject that might touch upon 'reliability'. any 'real' problems, respective owners will admit, and that's good to know.

stupid crap like 'ford sucks, chevy sucks, i ain't gonna buy no jap truck, etc...' is really gay.

by following the advice in this post....you shouldn't follow this advice at all
