New owner with a few ?'s
New owner with a few ?'s
ive checked the FAQ & my ? is not in there
I have an '04 Rx-8 in Nordic green sport & appearance package with an auto
I was told by my sales guy that each time before i turn off the car i should rev the engine just pass 3000 RPM & then turn the key
Is this true or am i just wasting gas?

He's probably referring to the procedure for preventing the car from flooding. I used to do that on my 6MT, but my car never flooded, so I stopped. Personally, I would baby the car until you get to the proper break-in mileage.

Thank your sales guy! I did it EVERY time I turned mine off and never had a flooding problem. Supposedly, the later year models with updated ECM flash should help prevent it making the rev unnecessary. Also, you need to let the car warm up before you turn it off (no cold shut downs). If you have a very short trip, the rev will help bring it up to temp. It sounds like bullsh*t, I know, but if you keep it up you should prevent engine problems. Plus, it makes everyone in the parking lot look and admire your car
