New owner with a few ?'s

ive checked the FAQ & my ? is not in there

I have an '04 Rx-8 in Nordic green sport & appearance package with an auto

I was told by my sales guy that each time before i turn off the car i should rev the engine just pass 3000 RPM & then turn the key

Is this true or am i just wasting gas?

He's probably referring to the procedure for preventing the car from flooding. I used to do that on my 6MT, but my car never flooded, so I stopped. Personally, I would baby the car until you get to the proper break-in mileage.

Welcome to the cult, er I mean, club. :)

Thank your sales guy! I did it EVERY time I turned mine off and never had a flooding problem. Supposedly, the later year models with updated ECM flash should help prevent it making the rev unnecessary. Also, you need to let the car warm up before you turn it off (no cold shut downs). If you have a very short trip, the rev will help bring it up to temp. It sounds like bullsh*t, I know, but if you keep it up you should prevent engine problems. Plus, it makes everyone in the parking lot look and admire your car  !

Do youknow if youre 8 has had the ECU M-Flash update? If it has...revving it to 3k before shutoff is no longer necessary. Enjoy your new toy!!! Welcome to the shindig.

Simple test. Turn the ignition key to the acc position. Once you do this, tap the brake pedal about 23 times within 8 seconds. Look at your oil guage...if it does a sweep. You are L or M flahed and all good. In the futures when you bring your car to Mazda for service, they will update flash your car.

Enjoy...
