As for performance numbers, the mags have been estimating (poorly might I add) about the stats. The Ralliart Galant which has the SAME engine and tranny, and weighs more than the new Eclipse, runs low 6's from 0-60 and low 14's in the quarter mile. That means the Eclipse should run at least those numbers, which are better than anything a stock RX-8 could dream of.

The interior can be ordered in several different schemes, the one in the concept pictures is a special "designer" style, there are sport and standard schemes as well.

Ick. Funny lookin. Ick. VERY interesting powertrain from a technical standpoint, but pathetic performance numbers. Typical Misubishi.

This car is supposed to SAVE the company from going under and they make it look like something Mattel would sell my son for $2.

Why oh why couldn't the have done it a bit differently without the "big butt" backend, Dodge Stratus frontend, and FUGLY interior? And why not put the awesome motor from the Evo into it? I mean they have some interesting ideas, but overall...

ICK!!!

This car isn't meant to appeal to us. They aren't going to save the company appealing to a handful of car enthusiasts, they already have an EVO, it's called the EVO. They need a car for hairdressers and sweet 16 birthday gifts to save them, something with mass appeal. From that standpoint, this could be a winner. A lot of the avg jane/joe that I have talked too seem to like the cars looks, they don't give a **** what's under the hood.

Well if the EVO didn't look so damned riced out i'd be driving one right now. cuz u can't really say anything about its performance, that thing just kicks ***. this new eclipse? i think they should have at least brought back the awd on it like the old GST's. this car looks to fat and heavy for my taste. at close to 4000 lbs, 260 hp doesn't mean $%#. now if it had 400 plus hp like the SVT mustang...... that would be a different story. i'll be sad to see mitsubishi go away. really like that EVO, just that its fugly as hell. but i guess thats how they wanted it, powerful, mean, fast and ugly.

As reported by R&T, MT, and C&D, a stock RX-8 does 0-60 in 6 secs flat and 1/4 mi in 14.5. Seems pretty comparable to me. And even if it is faster, woop de doo.

Your all full of crap and just want to bash the Mitsubishi.

I'm a Mistu man! Went from 300 Gt to Diamonte wow this is a classy car. Them I went to the ugly Eclipse. bought a newer Diamonte too.......

But for some reason the Eclipse didn't suite me. Cheap stero and way too much interior noise.

Then I came upon the RX 8.

What wrong with new Eclipse? ? ? ?

A 350 z backend with RX 8 Tail lights.

Then there's the old style Eclipse front end, But wait from a different angle its a DODGE front End.

Of course then there's my favorite...............

The RX 8 Rotory in the seats.. Let's just change it a little. No one will know the difference..

With 260hp what more can you ask for?

A multi colored interior?

First and foremost, I could ask that power went to the proper wheels. I think it looks alright, but there is a lot left to be desired from a car enthusiasts standpoint.

Yeah, those are the numbers that the magical pre-production cars ran, before they were "detuned" to meet emissions and cat standards. Aside from 2 or 3 freak instances, no one has yet to see those times on a stock RX-8.

Absolutely false. The Road&Track (Aug. '04) and MotorTrend (March '04) tests were done with full production cars. In each case the RX-8 was picked over G35 (R&T) and S2000, 350Z (MT). I have nothing against the Eclipse, I even like the new shape. But get your facts correct buddy.

How bout weighing less then a pickup truck? 260 bhp is depressing when a car almost weighs 3600 lbs. More power for more bloat...its the american dream. When did horsepower become the sole gauge of performance?

Why does the concept car have a joystick where the shifter should go?

? all those test were done on production models as RxHachi said, add Automobile magazine to the list aug 04 as well, and they have a long term in the current issue and post those numbers as well.

i love the picture of the dash panel. I don't think I could ever drive a car that redlines at 6k ever again. 9k all the way.

The designers did what they could considering the parameters they were forced to work within. Realistically, it is just a two door galant as all Eclipses have ever been. Back when the Galant was a bit smaller, a lot sportier, and came with turbos and awd, it was pretty easy to build a small two door performance version. If they would have simply switched platforms with which to work to the lancer, this would have been one hell of a car. Shame really. They could have offered, as before, everything from a low price entry level fwd model to a full blown awd turbo model. The styling would have made more sense on a smaller platform as well. Now it just looks bloated. It makes 18" wheels look tiny. I guess bigger is better in America and it will sell well.
